This was the second attempt -- and the first successful one -- at giving Elisabeth Sladen's character of investigative journalist Sarah Jane Smith a spinoff series from "Doctor Who" (1963). The first attempt resulted only in a pilot episode which was broadcast as K-9 and Company (1981) (TV).

Doctor Who Jr.

For those who don't know, this is a spin off of the Doctor Who series, focusing on the doctor's most famous companion, Sarah Jane Smith, and her life since she was abandoned back on Earth.

Not to be confused with Torchwood, another Doctor Who spin off. While Torchwood has a lot of sex appeal and perhaps inappropriate content, The Sarah Jane Adventures is marketed towards a younger (pre-teen) audience.

I'd highly recommend this show to the avid fan of the doctor who wants to watch some television with their children. Not that Doctor Who isn't entertaining for all ages, but this show focuses more exclusively on children.

What good is a Doctor Who show without fancy equipment? Well, Sarah Jane has been collecting alien technology for the many years she's been alone, including everyone's favorite robot dog, K-9, an advanced computer by the name of Mr. Smith, an analysis watch of sorts, and of course a sonic device capable of unlocking and altering certain things in much the same way that the sonic screwdriver can.
