Robert here with a quick news bit courtesy of the A.V. Club. Turns out the old-school video game Castlevania will be getting the feature film treatment. James Wan (who directed Saw) is almost on-board. And Steven Paul, who produced Baby Geniuses and Bratz is in charge of production.

It appears that the video-game-adaptation streak of "0" for howevermany will stand. Hooray! But enough depressing news. Let's pretend that it's actually possible to make a good video game adaptation. Which game do you fantasize about seeing on the big screen as a quality movie? Do you want to see Keira Knightley as Zelda? Are you dying to see Kate Beckinsale play Samus? Have you been holding out hope for Danny DeVito as Pac-Man? What details have you imagined? You know you have.

'Bruno' Star Sacha Baron Cohen Is Just One Of Hollywood's Top Cinematic Chameleons

How weird is it that, out of Sacha Baron Cohen’s three trademark characters, Ali G is now the least famous of them all? With this past weekend’s strong “Brüno” opening, the UK-born and raised funnyman has once again fooled the world into believing that he is someone else. Where he goes from here is anyone’s guess, but as we play Monday-morning quarterback there is an even more pressing question: is Cohen the greatest cinematic "chameleon" of all time?

There are few things I love more in a movie than when an actor fully immerses himself in another persona. Sometimes it’s for comedy, sometimes it’s for drama... but whatever the performance is in the name of, when done right it can make that performer a legend. Twilight's Catherine Hardwicke: 'If I Stay', a 'Maximum Ride'?

Mending their relationship, Twilight production company Summit Entertainment and director Catherine Hardwicke are coming together again for the new fantasy/drama movie If I Stay, according to Variety.  The movie is based on author Gayle Forman's young adult novel If I Stay, which will be published this spring by Dutton children's Books.

Additionally, via ICv2, Hardwicke is in discussions with Columbia Pictures to develop and direct a movie adaptation of James Patterson young-adult book series Maximum Ride. Ex-Marvel honcho Avi Arad is producing the adaptation of Patterson’s tale of six teens who have been genetically altered so that they can fly. On the one hand, both the text versions and Yen Press’ Maximum Ride graphic novels have done very well. On the other hand, Arad's first film after leaving Marvel-- was Bratz. »

Robosapien: Rebooted Plot Details and Poster

Crystal Sky Pictures, via Slash Film, has posted the first poster and full synopsis for their upcoming Robosapien: Rebooted. The film is based on the popular toy of the same name. The flick is being produced by head Marvel Studios honcho Avi Arad and directed by Sean McNamara (Bratz, Raise Your Voice). Bobby Coleman, Penelope Ann Miller, David Eigenberg, Holliston Coleman and Kim Coates star. It’s scheduled to arrive in theaters later this year. In the flick, an inventor working for Kinetech Labs has designed a robot for search and rescue missions that has the ability to mimic human actions and emotions. After discovering that the robot's advanced microchip is actually going to be used by Kinetech for military applications, the inventor programs the robot to flee, whereupon it is damaged. Twelve year old Henry finds the broken robot, fixes him up and names him Cody. With no memory of his past, »

Lol: Robosapien Rebooted Movie Poster and Plot Synopsis

In 2007, we told you that producer Avi Arad was planning to make a movie based on the popular toy robot Robosapien. We didn’t think it would actually happen, but hey, this is the same guy who is responsible for Elektra, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider and the Bratz movie. And with the success of Michael Bay’s Transformers, everyone was trying to recapture the box office gold with toy to movie adaptations.

Well, yes, the movie is still happening. Actually its in post production. Quiet Earth points us to the production company website for Crystal Sky, which just released a movie poster and plot synopsis for the film, Robosapien Rebooted:

Producer Avi Arad is responsible for some of the most classic films of our generation. Elektra, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider and Bratz are all part of this cinematic visionary's storied repetoire. 'Bratz' gets a reprieve

If Avi Arad was hoping that the Bratz franchise would completely disappear and take the movie he produced with it, he's out of luck. A Us federal judge has ruled that Bratz dolls will be able to remain on store shelves through 2009.  The judge gave Mga Entertainment, the manufacturer of Bratz merchandise a stay of sorts, asking Mga and Mattel to come up with a proposal under which the dolls can continue to be manufactured and sold through the year, according to the La Times. Under the original ruling, Mga would have had to pull the dolls from shelves as of February 11, 2009.  The judge made this new modified ruling "to address the concerns regarding the 2009 retail buying season."  

Last year, Mattel sued and won a copyright infringement against Mga Entertainment concerning the Bratz dolls. But like the vampire blodsuckers they emulate, they keep coming back from the dead. »
