The approach of the bulldozer and its driver during a dust storm in the opening strongly resembles a similar scene in chapter five of John Steinbeck's novel The Grapes Of Wrath.

Goofs:

Factual errors: As Ben Hawkins' mother lays in her shack the on screen caption reads "Oklahoma 1934". However, later in the same episode the radio is playing an episode of "The Shadow" radio series. The episode is "The Silent Avenger" starring Orson Welles, an episode that wasn't broadcast until 03/13/38.
