Virginia Madsen to produce ski jumper documentary

9 April 2009 2:59 PM, PDT | screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news »

Virginia Madsen has done a couple of crappy projects (including her latest "The Haunting in Connecticut"), but I forgive her. She still rocks and I particularly love her in "Sideways."

Anyway, according to Variety, Madsen is set to produce "Fighting Gravity," a documentary about 15 athletes trying to get the International Olympic Committee to allow women ski jumpers to compete in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

The fact alone the Ioc banned women from taking part in the sport is just stupid, of course, and I can only hope somebody gets to slam some sense into these people's heads. Time to realize we are indeed living in the 21st century.

Madsen, whose recent credits include "The Number 23" and "The Astronaut Farmer," will also soon appear in "Amelia." "Fighting Gravity" is already in production, by the way. »

Billy Bob Thornton acting odd on Canadian public radio

9 April 2009 1:45 PM, PDT | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

“Would you ask Tom Petty that?”

That’s the question posed to Jian Ghomeshi on Canadian public radio on by actor Billy Bob Thornton. Thornton clearly didn’t want to do the interview and it appeared to be simply because the host introducted Thornton as an actor, and not band member with his current group The Boxmasters.

I interviewed Thornton when he was making the rounds for The Astronaut Farmer, while the movie was forgettable, he wasn’t. I mainly spoke about his swagger, and the fact that he was flirting non-stop with Virginia Madsen. I liked the guy, but probably because he wasn’t an arse.

'Manure' Gets Squished as Onliners Resort to Barbie Dolls and Critics Punch Producers

21 January 2009 5:48 PM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Tea Leoni in Manure (she must love that caption) Wow, at least I know I am not the only one struggling to figure out what to write about as the online world is currently at a standstill with the Sundance Film Festival offering up very little in the way of movies to talk about with An Education coming out as the only film with any amount of real praise and films such as The Informers getting bad buzz and now the Polish brothers' latest effort Manure receiving an all's mum Qand#038;A report. From the Los Angeles Times comes a report from Jevon Phillips who was at the premiere of Manure, which stars Billy Bob Thornton and Tea Leoni, both of which were on hand along with Mark and Michael Polish as well as others for a post-screening Qand#038;A session. However, as Phillips reports: The film, about 1960s manure »
