(The Broken Lizard guys, along with Cobie Smulders, on the set of The Slammin' Salmon, above.)
by Terry Keefe
We had the opportunity to interview most of the members of the Broken Lizard comedy team last January, when they were about to premiere their new feature The Slammin' Salmon at Slamdance. It's been a tough year for independent films in search of distribution, to say the least, but it's nice to see The Slammin' Salmon getting a theatrical release from Anchor Bay on December 11th. Check out our interview with the guys, it's a fun one. The film stars the Lizards: Kevin Heffernan, Jay Chandrasekhar, Paul Soter, Steve Lemme, and Erik Stolhanske, along with Michael Clarke Duncan, Vivica Fox, Olivia Munn (Attack of the Show, Iron Man 2) , Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother), and April Bowlby (Two and a Half Men). »

Knock, Knock. Who's There? The Closet. you're Still Around? You Better Believe It!
There's been a great deal of discussion on the site over the past couple of weeks about gay celebrities, the closet and what constitutes being "out." And even though we've discussed the issue numerous times before, it seems like it is once again time to revisit the topic. And it's a subject that is as tricky as ever and that can have real consequences for the celebrities involved.
Perez kicked the latest round of debate off when he posted an item about White Collar's Matthew Bomer. Without citing a source or saying how he knew, Perez simply claimed Matt was an out gay man. If true, we were certainly interested in writing about Matt and his show, but as we aren't a gossip site, I wasn't going to simply repeat Perez's claims — for lots of reasons. »

CBS is having such a good year that they're increasing their episode orders for some of their most popular shows, according to EW. The orders total 13.5 more hours of programming. In terms of total airtime, that's the equivalent to ordering a whole new series.
This could mean a few less reruns for viewers... or that the network will be able to dump struggling shows even sooner.
CSI: Miami, How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Two and a Half Men have all been given orders for two additional episodes each.
The Big Bang Theory, Criminal Minds, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: NY, The Good Wife, and The Mentalist have each been given one more installment.
What about the rest? Are they in danger of being cancelled? Unless their ratings improve, many of them »

It lasted quite a long time for a show with a ridiculously-spelled name, but Numb3rs is nearing cancellation.
CBS has cut the episode order for this drama from 22 to 16 this season, a clear sign it won't be around in the fall of 2010.
That's bad news for fans of the show, but they can take comfort if they watch other hit CBS programs.
The network has increased the episode orders of How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, CSI: Miami, and Two and a Half Men from 22 to 24; it's also requested an additional episode of the following shows:

CBS Monday night comedies have been doing pretty well so far this season, as far as the ratings are concerned. The Big Bang Theory is challenging Two and a Half Men for top Nielsens for a sitcom; How I Met Your Mother is doing as well or better than last year, and the new kid on the block, Jenna Elfman in Accidentally on Purpose, has benefited by being smackdab in the middle of all that established comic success.
CBS has ordered five additional episodes of Accidentally on Purpose. It's not a ringing endorsement, but it does give the show a chance to improve on what it's done thus far.

CBS has ordered five more episodes of Jenna Elfman's CBS sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, which has improved upon retaining the ratings from its lead-in How I Met Your Mother. Depending on where your preferences are, Accidentally on Purpose ranges in quality between two of its cinematic predecessors, the oops-a-baby Knocked Up and the oops-a-baby-with-my-gay-friend-in-a-horrible-movie The Next Best Thing. Luckily, Elfman's series seems to be veering closer to the former. [THR] »

CBS is showing a little love to "Accidentally on Purpose."
The network has ordered five more episodes of the Jenna Elfman half-hour, insiders confirmed Tuesday. That's short of a full-season pickup but still a modest vote of confidence in the series.
Critics were mixed in their reviews of "Aop," but viewership has been steady. It's been retaining between 80-90 percent of its "How I Met Your Mother" lead-in. Last night, it delivered its best ratings since its premiere (though a CBS affiliate carried Monday Night Football, potentially skewing ... »

The Big Bang Theory is usually a tightly constructed show. The nerdy heroes have one or two geeky adventures, seen through the judgmental, yet well-meaning eyes of neighbor Penny, while one or more of the nerds has an existential crisis about love life, hobby, and/or lifestyle issues. The humor begins with derisive laughter at the nerds’ expense, and is furthered with clever turns of phrase, scientific interpretation and analysis of everyday minutiae, and Sheldon’s complete misunderstanding of interpersonal engagement.
As tightly constructed as the show usually is, tonight’s episode was looser than a pair of ripped sweatpants. It didn’t seem like an actual episode, but purged remnants from other shows. The episode begins with a typical geeky encounter between the nerds and Penny; this week the quartet was preparing for “kite fighting” in the park while Penny watched a University of Nebraska football game with several other fans. »
