At exactly ninety minutes in length there is no time wasted on this film, a simple but frightening tale of how acts of terrorism can affect the everyday person. It opens with a five minute introduction to our characters, a married couple living in Los Angeles. After his wife Lexi leaves for work, musician Brad hears on the radio of a series of dirty bomb explosions in downtown LA. Fearing for his wife's safety he immediately sets off in his car but is turned back by the police, who are warning people to stay indoors due to the poisonous and contagious nature of the bombs. Brad actually witnesses one man covered in toxic ash being shot by the police as he tries to reach uninfected areas.
Brad returns home. With a neighbour he seals up every window and door using tape, clingfilm and bubblewrap, and then sits and waits, the radio informing listeners to turn away any loved ones who should make it home because they will inevitably be carriers of infection from the explosions. When Lexi staggers to the front door coughing and vomitting Brad is torn between his love for his wife and his fears for his own safety and from here, Right at your door becomes a horrific race against time as Lexi slowly withers away outside whilst Brad looks helplessly on, hoping in vain that the rescue teams will arrive soon with medicine.
It would be a crime to give away the ending, but let me just say it was totally unexpected and made my jaw hit the floor. Right at your door is by no means brilliant, but it is a good, solidly scripted and well acted little film about ordinary people whose lives are ripped apart by terrorism.
