An Explosive Look at Enzo's 'Inglorious Bastards' (1978)

23 July 2008 3:49 AM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

In recent years the addition of Quentin Tarantino's name to a film's marketing has been a bit hit or miss, especially when it came to Hostel 2 and I am a bit weary of the upcoming Hell Ride. However, with the 1978 Italian World War II feature Inglorious Bastards it means something a little different, at least to me it does. Just imagine if you could pick the brain of your favorite directors and discuss what films inspired them and made them ever want to become directors in the first place. If you could sit down with Hitchcock, Scorsese, Fellini, Bergman or Spielberg, just imagine the lists of films you could obtain just by listening to the films that inspired their careers. While sitting down with Tarantino may seem to be a daunting thought, considering when you are talking about film this guy is a wild man, Inglorious Bastards is an

New Spoiler-Heavy Quarantine Theatrical Trailer?!

9 July 2008 3:18 PM, PDT | From iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news

Yahoo has posted a brand new theatrical trailer for Quarantine (the American remake of the fantastic Spanish film [Rec]), which stars Jennifer Carpenter (The Exorcism Of Emily Rose) and Jay Hernandez (Hostel). Quite frankly... I don't know what the hell these marketing people are thinking?! I just watched the original Spanish flick [Rec]. (Look for my First Look Review this weekend.) It's one of the best horror films I've seen in years. Yet, having already seen it, I advise you strongly Not to watch these trailers for Quarantine, because... well, they give everything away!!! Perhaps some changes have been made for the American remake, but judging from the trailers, this looks like a shot-for-shot remake and I'm shocked that they'd give away as much as they are in the trailers, and even the theatrical poster. You have been warned! Click Here for Yahoo's trailers. Or Here to watch a teaser to [Rec] from our previous news post.

Rza to helm 'Man With The Iron Fist'

7 July 2008 3:29 AM, PDT | From Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news

RZA will make his directorial debut on the film The Man With The Iron Fist. According to filmmaker Eli Roth (Hostel), the Wu-Tang Clan leader is Quentin Tarantino's current protege and has crafted an impressive screenplay for a martial arts feature. He told Chud: "RZA's script is amazing. He has been studying directing with Tarantino for years and he's really ready to get behind the camera. His impact on rap music and hip-hop culture cannot be measured, and he's ready to add his own unique style and vision to the world of (more)

Will Scott Spiegel Write and Direct Hostel: Part 3?!

28 June 2008 5:10 PM, PDT | From iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news

Consider this a rumor until it can be confirmed. But last week, the news got out that Lionsgate had begun early discussions for a Hostel: Part 3 and that series creator Eli Roth would not be involved. Now, Bloody-Disgusting got a tip from a reliable source that the studio is talking with series producer Scott Spiegel to write and direct Hostel: Part 3.

Now, for those of you who don't know, Spiegel co-wrote my all time favorite horror movie... Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn. He was one of the producers on 2001 Maniacs, as well as the first 2 Hostel films, and even had a cameo in buddy Sam Raimi's Spider-man 2. (He's the guy on the balcony that tries to eat one of Spidey's slices.) The guy's got a long history with the genre, so even though I'm personally not interested in yet another Hostel sequel, I'd be curious

'Hostel' Producer to Write and Direct Sequel?!

27 June 2008 2:00 PM, PDT | From bloody-disgusting.com | See recent Bloody-Disgusting.com news

We just received a very interesting phone cal from a reliable source that informs us that writer-director-actor-producer Scott Spiegel is in serious talks to both write and direct Hostel: Part III, which we're told is slated to go direct-to-dvd/Blu-ray. Spiegel is a big genre fav as he produced both Hostel and Hostel: Part II for Lionsgate and Sony Screen Gems, starred in Raimi's The Evil Dead, wrote and starred in Evil Dead II, and has also been part of various other horror projects (check out his IMDb listing). There is still no word on Eli Roth's involvement, but we'll you posted as news comes in and when we can officially confirm Spiegel's involvement.

26 June 2008 7:21 PM, PDT | From iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news

My cousin just got an import copy of the Spanish flick [Rec] and swears its one of the best horror films he's seen in years. (We're watching it together this weekend, so hopefully I'll agree!) Its no surprise then that Hollywood has already commissioned an American remake of [Rec] since... well, the majority of you don't like reading subtitles! Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter, The Exorcism Of Emily Rose) and Jay Hernandez (Hostel) star in Quarantine, directed by the Dowdle Brothers (The Poughkeepsie Tapes) and due out in theaters October 17th, 2008! The teaser poster is below, along with 5 images from the flick. You can check out the trailer to Quarantine, as well as the original [Rec] at This link!

Hostel III Happenings

23 June 2008 4:24 PM, PDT | From DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news

Okay, by a show of hands ... who is ready for more tourists getting sliced up because they meandered into the waiting clutches of foreign psychos? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Bloody-Disgusting got word earlier today that early talks have begun on the next sequel on the block, Hostel III, and franchise creator Eli Roth will not be writing or directing.

I don't know about this one. I'm in the minority here, but I liked Hostel and Hostel Part II. Part of what made them work was Roth's insanity. I fear putting the series in someone else's hands will turn it into just another quickie torture-porn fiasco. Then again, maybe new blood will breathe some new life into the flicks. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Stay tuned for more as it comes.

Hostel: Part 3 Is Roth-less...

23 June 2008 11:37 AM, PDT | From iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news

I genuinely loved the first Hostel. It's great as it's own film. I liked the 2nd one, although it was an unnecessary sequel. (The opening completely diminishes the first one's ending!) Now, Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that Lionsgate have begun early talks for a Hostel: Part III. One things confirmed, it will Not be written or directed by Eli Roth. No word yet on if Roth will be involved in any capacity although I'd imagine he'd be a producer. Also no word on if Lionsgate is planning a theatrical release for Hostel 3 or a direct-to-dvd sequel. Read the original post on B-d Here! More when we hear it!

'Piranha' Remake to Deliver Boobs, Blood and Gore!

6 June 2008 12:12 AM, PDT | From bloody-disgusting.com | See recent Bloody-Disgusting.com news

While French director Alex Aja puts the finishing touches on his remake of Mirrors for 20th Century Fox, he's also prepping a remake of Piranha for Dimension Films. Planned to be shot in 3-D, there is a lot of speculation about what direction Aja will take his latest horror opus. Bloody-Disgusting caught up with makeup effects designer Greg Nicotero (Grindhouse, Hostel II) today and he offered a few short words about the Piranha remake, Piranha 3-D, which is expected to go into production shortly. The project is the second consecutive project Nicotero has done with director Alex Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) after Mirrors, which hits screens August 15th.

Movie Reviews: 'Untraceable'

28 January 2008 | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

Untraceable , which had been expected to take in less than $10 million, turned out to be a pleasant surprise for Sony. So, too, possibly were the handful of solid reviews the film garnered from several critics on Friday. (Most despised it.) Chicago Sun-Times critic Roger Ebert (who wrote his review of the movie before entering the hospital last week for surgery to correct damage that had resulted from previous operations last year) described it as "a horrifying thriller, smart and tightly told, and merciless." Ann Horniday credited Diane Lane's performance for pulling it all off: "An otherwise slick, well-crafted police procedural, Untraceable dabbles in the kind of torture porn that has made movies like Saw and Hostel such hit franchises with the very teenagers Lane's career has so triumphantly defied." On the other hand, Joe Morgenstern wrote in the Wall Street Journal:"This joyless thriller runs the gamut from unconscionable through unwatchable to unendurable." Then there was Stephen Holden's curious review in the New York Times, which said, "You may view Untraceable, as I do, as a repugnant example of the voyeurism it pretends to condemn. Or you may stand back and see it as a cleverly conceived, slickly executed genre movie that ranks somewhere between Seven and the Saw movies in sadistic ingenuity."

Lohan & Murphy Lead Razzie Nominations

22 January 2008 | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Lindsay Lohan and Eddie Murphy both scored multiple nominations for the 2008 Golden Raspberry Awards - honoring the worst movies and performances of the past year. The annual ceremony - known as the Razzies - is a spoof of the Oscars, with the honors handed out a day before the famed Academy Awards. Lohan's 2007 movie I Know Who Killed Me received a staggering nine nods in the nominations, which were announced on Monday - a day before the Oscar nominees are revealed. The film is tipped in several categories including Worst Picture, Worst Director for Chris Sivertson and Worst Actress for Lohan. The Mean Girls star is nominated in this category twice as she played two different parts in the film. Golden Raspberry founder John Wilson insists Lohan's thriller deserves to lead the way at the 2008 ceremony. He says, "Lohan's movie played like a cross between the torture tale Hostel and The Patty Duke Show. For worst actress, Lohan polled more heavily than any actor since Sofia Coppola in The Godfather Part III. I Know Who Killed Me is the most fabulously brainless movie since Showgirls, which Razzie voters picked as the worst movie of the 1990s. By the end of it, you still don't know what happened. Can I please have my hour and 50 minutes back?" Eddie Murphy's 2007 comedy Norbit received eight nominations, including two for Murphy himself for Worst Actor and Worst Actress - as he also played the wife of the main character in the film. Wilson adds about Murphy's performance, "We decided that each of his characters was so offensive that he deserved individual nominations." The other Worst Picture nominees were Bratz, Daddy Day Camp with Cuba Gooding Jr. and I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry, which starred Adam Sandler.
