Californication star David Duchovny has had a lukewarm relationship with the box office. His last feature, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, made a lackluster $10 million on its opening weekend and went on to make a mesely $68.1 million worldwide. If you ask Duchovny, who played the alien-loving Agent Mulder, what went wrong, he might tell you it was because the story was away from the heart of the popular Fox show. You know, cigerett smoking man and stuff?
“As far as the X-Files movie I’d like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy,” Duchovny said. ” I think it’s natural for The X-Files to have another movie in 2012, so we’ll see if we get to do it.”

Although the second film didn't exactly set fire to the box office, the star of a popular sci-fi film and TV series is ready for more. The Daily Beast recently chatted with The X-Files star David Duchovny, who revealed he would still be in for a third film that would follow last year's The X-Files: I Want to Believe. Here's a section of the site's article.
However, Duchovny looks forward to filming a third X-Files film in the near future. "As far as the X-Files movie I'd like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy. With The X Files: I Want to Believe having done okay at the box office last year and fans calling for more of Agents Mulder and Scully, David Duchovny (Agent Fox Mulder to the uninitiated) has been talking about the possibility of a third X-Files film.
The original X-Files series, which ran from 1993 to 2002 made global stars of Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, making global stars of the pair. Duchovny has since gone on to find television fame once more with the character Hank Moody in the Showtime original series Californication, but could there really be a third film, does The X-Files still have a story to tell?

I think it’s terrific that David Duchovny is so excited to do another “X-Files” movie despite the quality and non-existent box office of 2008’s “The X-Files: I Want to Believe”. I think it’s hilarious that when the show was still on the air, Duchovny couldn’t get away fast enough and had his ass abducted off the show. But now, as he’s done before, Duchovny is cheerleading another “X-Files” movie. Hit the jump to have the conspiracy go eat itself.
Speaking to The Daily Beast, Duchovny had this to say in regards to another “X-Files” movie:
However, Duchovny looks forward to filming a third X-Files film in the near future. “As far as the X-Files movie I’d like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy. »

Let me start by saying I never saw The X-Files: I Want to Believe. Simply put, I just didn’t believe it could be good. Based on the reviews and what friends have told me, I was right.
Since news started to come out about the premise of the last X-Files film I knew they were taking the characters down the wrong path. The pseudo monster-of-the-week episodes the series was known for worked well enough on TV, but you want something pretty big for a feature film. Really big.
The first movie got it right in my opinion. Conspiracy. Aliens. Giant UFOs. That’s movie caliber material. Mulder and Scully waxing poetic about a psychic priest in the sequel? Not so much.
It pains me a little to call out the second film like that because I’m a huge X-Files fan. That comes with sincerity as I have Mulder »

Here is a brief summary of today's film stories straight out of Hollywood and from across the Web:
• I hated "The X-Files: I Want to Believe," but as a diehard fan of the TV series, I know how to forgive and would still like to see another film. So does David Duchovny, who recently said he would love to do another film set in 2012. Read more right here.
• Selena Gomez from "The Wizards of Waverly Place" will star in New Line Cinema's "What Boys Want" from a comedy pitch by Amy Andelson and Emily Meyer. The film follows a teenage chick who can hear men's thoughts. Freakyyyyyy... (Variety) »

Since she took some time off to have a kid, Jessica Alba has returned to work but she hasn't had a role of this magnitude quite yet. Alba has joined the cast of Little Fockers, where she'll once again try to seriously hint that she can play comedy (she's 0-3 in the last few years).
The Hollywood Reporter does exactly what you'd expect it to - reporting - and says she's play "an attractive pharmaceutical rep whose looks wreak havoc on male characters in the story." Awesome! Because what this series needs is more characters!
By the time it's released, Little Fockers will be almost six years behind Meet the Fockers, which while nowhere near as funny as the original, became one of the biggest comedies in history. Since then, Ben Stiller's star has become a little shakier, so we'll see if this is a gold mine or not. »

Countless comic books and graphic novels are now being adapted into the medium of film, many of them not in the classic costumed superhero genre.
Whiteout is the latest example. The award-winning Oni Press comic book series centres on a Us Marshal called Carrie Stetko who investigates the first-ever murder in Antarctica just as a blizzard-battered winter is about to close in and leave her stranded there for six months.
A Warner Bros big-screen adaptation starring Kate Beckinsale as Stetko is now on release and, in the absence of a press screening invitation, I went to see it tonight.
The original comic has a second female character, with whom Stetko forms an intimate friendship, but for the film this was changed into a male Un operative played by Gabriel Macht, an actor familiar to genre fans for his recent starring role in The Spirit.
So does Whiteout work on the screen? »

Gillian Anderson has confirmed she will appear in a third "X-Files" movie. The actress - who plays agent Dana Scully in the sci-fi TV series and its spin-off movies - surprised fans at the Sarajevo Film Festival by admitting she would happily reprise her role for another big screen installment, despite recently complaining she felt typecast because of her association with the franchise.
She said: "Of course I would accept an offer to appear in a new 'X-Files' movie. There isn't any reason not to do it."
"I feel a commitment to that group of people I worked with and we still enjoy doing it. There is no reason not to come together and do it again. If they can pull it off, we'll find a reason to make it."

Hollywood is currently going through a remake frenzy of old films and television shows like we’ve never seen before. And the latest show from a bygone era to be given a cinematic make-over is MacGyver.
MacGyver starred Stargate’s Richard Dean Anderson as an agent for the Phoenix Foundation who was able to get out of any scrape by using everyday objects as weapons.
The new feature is set up at Newline Cinema and it will be produced by Raffaella De Laurentiis, Martha De Laurentis and Lee Zlotoff who created the original series.
The show ran from 1985 to 1992 on ABC and it was sort of like Indiana Jones meets James Bond meets The A-Team. It was fun for its day but it will be difficult to balance the shows easy going charm and farfetched gadgetry with today’s Bourne style ferocity.

Update: Apparently this is a list or "suggestions" and the nominees will be announced later this year. Do not take these to be official nominations. The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation has announced their nominees for th 2009 Razzie Awards and yet again you can spot the not-so-subtle attempts at humor and the obvious nature of the entire list. The best part of the whole thing is that the way these awards are decided are based on member votes, which means people actually spend - at a minimum - $20 to submit votes and say films such as Disaster Movie and Meet the Spartans weren't any good. I wonder, did these people actually go spend money on these movies or are they voting purely on the idea that these movies must be bad? Because if they actually paid to see all of these movies that may be as sad as the award show itself. »
