Dolph Lundgren, Star Of The Original 'Punisher,' Hasn't Seen The Recent Remakes

From Splash Page: No matter how many times Marvel's Punisher films start over from scratch, Dolph Lundgren will always be the first-live action Frank Castle.

The iconic action star wrote, directed and headlined in his latest direct-to-dvd film "Command Performance" and returns to the big screen in 2010 for Sylvester Stallone's "The Expendables." As far as upcoming comic book films go, however, "Conan" is the only one that has his attention right now, and he said he hasn't been keeping up with the skull-shirted vigilante he first portrayed in 1989.

"No, I haven't seen any of [the new 'Punisher' movies]," Lundgren told MTV News. The Swedish-born actor has kept a tight schedule since he began directing his own movies like "The Mechanik" and "Diamond Dogs," so it's understandable that he might not be able to find the time.

Trailer for Dolph Lundgren's Direct Contact

8 April 2009 3:49 PM, PDT | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

So I'm searching the web for little known Dolph Lundgren movies, you know as you do, and I come across this film trailer for Direct Contact a little known 90s movie he was in that... wait what? It's not even out yet? It hits DVD on June 2, 2009? Whoa.

I think that when you watch the new trailer after the break you'll see why I thought it was an ancient classic. Everything from the washed out look, the evil Ruskies, even the way the Nu-Image logo crashes to the forefront of the screen to the sound of grung rock smacks of awesome old skool 90s cheese. Probably why I still like the old guy. He's still "keepin' it real" as the kids say.

Synopsis:

An American prisoner in a Russian jail is given a chance at freedom if he can rescue a kidnapped American woman from a deadly military force.
