Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen will play the lead characters in a Judd Apatow-produced Sherlock Holmes comedy for Columbia Pictures.
Although plot details have not been revealed yet, Variety reports Etan Cohen (“Tropic Thunder”) is writing the script. Baron Cohen will play master detective Holmes, while Ferrell will jump into the role of his partner Watson.
The film reteams Ferrell and Baron Cohen, who played bitter rivals in Adam McKay’s Talladega Nights,” which Apatow also produced.
Ferrell recently starred in “Semi-Pro” and will next be seen alongside John C. Reilly in McKay’s “Step Brothers.”
Baron Cohen was last seen in “Sweeney Todd” and is currently filming “Bruno,” a mockumentary in the style of “Borat.”
As for Apatow, he’s gearing up for his next directorial effort “Funny People,” which stars Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Eric Bana and Jonah Hill.

There has been cautious optimism about the upcoming Terminator trilogy since it was announced that Christian Bale would play John Connor.
The cast has filled out rather nicely since then - funny how that works - although I still question whether McG is the right director. Then again, I said the same thing about Jonathon Mostow for T3, and that turned out better than I expected.
And now there's news that a new, more-than-reputable actor will join the ensemble that already includes Anton Yelchin, Sam Worthington, Moon Bloodgood, Common, and Bryce Dallas Howard. WENN is reporting that Helena Bonham Carter "has been offered a small but pivotal role" in the film.
Last year, Bonham Carter received a Golden Globe nomination for Sweeney Todd, and she already has an Oscar nomination for The Wings of the Dove back in 1997. She also has a good gauge for blockbusters and culturally relevant films,

Helena Bonham Carter is in negotiations to appear in McG’s upcoming action flick “Terminator Salvation,” the fourth installment in the popular series launched by James Cameron in 1984.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carter’s role would be small but crucial to the story. The film stars Christian Bale in the role of lead character John Connor, who struggles to prevent the ruthless machines from eradicating humanity.
Anton Yelchin, Sam Worthington, Moon Bloodgood and Bryce Dallas Howard co-star. “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins” already started principal photography, with a release date set for May 22, 2009. A potential SAG strike could however cause delays in the production.
Bonham Carter was last seen alongside Johnny Depp in “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.” She will next reprise her role as Bellatrix Lestrange in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.”
Although she’s supposed to make a brief appearance only, her addition

Let the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and all of those film festivals hand out trophies for movies offering high drama and art. The folks who vote for the MTV Movie Awards appeared to have fun as their top criteria when they handed out their golden popcorn trophy Sunday night. They gave Transformers their top award for best film. Johnny Depp accepted trophies for best comedic performance for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and for best villain for Sweeney Todd. Accepting the first award, Depp seemed as curious about it as anyone in the audience. "You can ask anybody," he said. "I'm not a very funny person. I'm not even remotely funny."

Hollywood actor Johnny Depp has vowed never to star in a romantic comedy - because he considers the genre "boring".
The 44-year-old shot to fame in Tim Burton's 1991 fantasy epic Edward Scissorhands and has since made his name by taking on a variety of quirky film roles - including turns in Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and most recently in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
And Depp insists he will never be drawn to roles in light-hearted films - no matter how much money he is offered.
He says, "There is a dark side in me, like in each one of us. I only feel the fun factor when turning to a dark role, like in my most recent film Sweeney Todd.
"I wouldn't want to be in a romantic film, where it's about the boy meeting the girl, losing the girl, and getting her back.
"That would really bore me to death."

Still one of the most overrated films of all time in my book, Paramount Home Entertainment's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street was announced a few days ago for DVD release on April 1 in both 1-disc and 2-disc special editions. Hd was also announced, but I'm sure it'll be changed to Blu-Ray soon with the latest announcement. Inside you'll find a link to all of the different front and back covers for both releases.

No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood received eight Oscar nominations each, the most of any films that will be competing in this year's Academy Awards. Atonement and Michael Clayton each earned seven nominations. All four films were nominated for best film, along with the comedy Juno. The nominations were announced early today (Tuesday) in Beverly Hills, hours before an informal meeting was scheduled to take place between representatives of the Writers Guild of America and media executives that could determine whether the awards ceremonies would take place as usual next month. The nominations also included two for Cate Blanchett -- one for best actress for Elizabeth: The Golden Age, the other for best supporting actress for her portrayal of the young Bob Dylan in I'm Not There. Also nominated for best actress were Julie Christie for Away from Her, Marion Cotillard for La Vie En Rose, Laura Linney for The Savages and Ellen Page for Juno. In the best actor category, Daniel Day-Lewis was regarded as a shoo-in for his performance in There Will Be Blood. Also competing for the honor will be George Clooney for Michael Clayton, Johnny Depp for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Tommy Lee Jones for In the Valley of Elah, and Viggo Mortensen for Eastern Promises. In the director's category, the contest appeared to be a two-way affair between Paul Thomas Anderson, who helmed There Will Be Blood and Joel Coen and Ethan Coen, who directed No Country for Old Men. Also competing are Jason Reitman for Juno, Tony Gilroy for Michael Clayton and Julian Schnabel for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.

The Golden Globe awards, known more for their glamour and glitz than for the prestige of the awards themselves, had neither Sunday night as they were reduced to a perfunctory announcement of the winners by the hosts of several syndicated entertainment TV magazines. The awards are voted on by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, a small group of mostly part-time and freelance writers for overseas newspapers and magazines (none of whom announced any winners). The winners were not on hand for the announcements, abiding by directions from their unions not to cross picket lines of the Writers Guild of America, which had vowed to send strikers to the ceremonies in Beverly Hills en masse if the awards show was staged as usual. (Ironically the first winner announced Sunday night was Cate Blanchett, who won the supporting actress award for a film titled I'm Not There.) Sometimes regarded as a forecast of the Oscars, Sunday night's non-affair was only that in the sense that it raised the question of whether a similar fate would befall the equally glitzy but far more prestigious Academy Awards show, scheduled for February 24. As usual, the awards were spread over numerous films -- in order to curry favor with stars and publicists, according to some critics -- with Atonement, which was voted best film, receiving only one additional award -- for best original music. Some of the awards seemed to come out of left field and mirrored none that had come earlier. Contacted by the Associated Press, producer Richard Zanuck, whose Sweeney Todd won for best musical or comedy (beating the favorite, Juno), predicted that the strike will either be settled before the Oscars or that the WGA will grant a waiver for the show to take place. "I don't think they want to be responsible in bringing the most important event in the motion-picture industry each year down to its knees," he said. The WGA has maintained, however, that it is the studios who would be responsible for such an eventuality since they are the ones who broke off negotiations and continue to insist that they will not return to the talks until the union drops several demands regarding jurisdiction over reality and animated films and TV shows.
