What Allison is thankful for

22 November 2009 1:03 PM, PST | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Thanksgiving is coming and for many of us it's time to eat, drink and watch football. It's also a time to reflect on the things you're grateful for and since TV Squad is all about television, here's what I'm grateful for this holiday season, with regard to the tube.

Mad Men season finale

There was really nothing as satisfying in the entire year for me. Matt Weiner promised a game-changing episode and he delivered it with a whopper of a wrap up. Actually, nothing was really wrapped; it was more like the cards have been dealt and we're still waiting to see how the hands are played.

Review: Friday Night Lights - A Sort of a Homecoming

19 November 2009 6:29 AM, PST | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

(S04E04) Life is what happens while you're busy making plans. Matt hasn't exactly been the architect of his future, but the Dillon former quarterback has been plugging along. This week found Saracen in the cross hairs emotionally. The Taylors, meanwhile, continue to struggle through the professional turmoil, and the younger set in Dillon has definite issues -- some good, some not-so-good.

Then there's Buddy Garrity. If he's not a Panther anymore, and he denounced his identity with the West Dillon team last week, what is he? As he told Eric, the beauty of boosterism is that it comes from the heart. Where's Buddy's heart now? More on that and the rest, after the jump.

Review: Friday Night Lights - In the Skin of a Lion

11 November 2009 10:10 PM, PST | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

(S04E03) There's so much that's right about Friday Night Lights this new season that it probably sounds like I'm overdoing it with the positive notices. However, the way they've shaken up Eric and Tami's life together in Dillon has been terrific.

The gerrymandering for the town, sending Eric to coach a poor school with a tattered football squad is inspired storytelling. And Tami's not in a better place back at West Dillon because she sent Luke Cafferty to East Dillon, the school he was supposed to be attending. The Boosters are not happy with Tami. Eric's not sleeping. What's going to happen now?

Review: Friday Night Lights - After the Fall

4 November 2009 9:42 PM, PST | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

(S04E02) In case you think the Coach Eric Taylor has all the answers, this episode shows that's not always the way it is. In last week's show, the East Dillon Lions were so awful, Coach couldn't take it. He threw in the towel, which is a boxing term, but by forfeiting the game at half-time, that's what he did in football terms.

Things were hardly better for Tami at Dillon, although by comparison, her school looks like paradise. Eric's on the other side of paradise. More about that and the rest of the players, on field and off, after the jump.

Amber Heard Dishes on The Stepfather

15 October 2009 10:05 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The busy young actress talks about her role in the remake and The Rum Diary as well

Amber Heard is easily one of the hottest young actresses out there, in more ways than one. After gaining acclaim for smaller roles in studio films like Friday Night Lights and portraying a young Charlize Theron in North Country and, of course, her lead performance as the title character in the cult horror classic All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, the actress has continued to add to her repertoire. The actress has more recently appeared in such hits as Never Back Down, Pineapple Express and the horror-comedy sensation Zombieland, Heard returns to theaters this weekend with the horror remake The Stepfather, which arrives in theaters on October 16. I met her and spoke with her briefly during my set visit last year, but earlier today I had the chance to speak with Heard exclusively »

Jim Parsons on Friday Night Lights? If he had his way...

20 September 2009 3:08 PM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

If Jim Parsons wins the Emmy tonight for The Big Bang Theory, you better believe he'll be in a position to pick and choose the projects he does in the future. But here's one that I think would be fascinating, to quote Dr. Sheldon Cooper's favorite Vulcan scientist: Jim Parsons would like to appear on Friday Night Lights.

In a recent interview, Jim was asked about his favorite current show -- other than his own -- and he said it was Friday Night Lights. That's right, the NBC drama series about high school football deep in the heart of Texas! Somehow it's hard to imagine Sheldon in pads and a helmet. Maybe he could be the water boy? Or the genius offensive coordinator.Continue reading Jim Parsons on Friday Night Lights? If he had his way...

Billy Bob Thornton Gets Boxing

21 August 2009 12:15 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

The words "Ron Shelton" and "sports pic" go together like strawberries and cream, so it's always a good day when we hear that he's planning to make another one - say, a boxing film called Pound for Pound. And he's got Billy Bob Thornton to star in it, another actor who's generally suited to sports movies (although we're thinking more Friday Night Lights than Bad News Bears). It's based on the novel by Million Dollar Baby author F.X.Toole*, about a retired and widowed boxer (Thornton) mourning the death of his grandson. His life "intersects in unexpected ways" with a young up-and-coming Latino boxer, in what we're assured is a heartwarming story and not a total downer like that Clint Eastwood and Hilary Swank film.Shelton is both writing and directing, and shooting's due to take place early next year.*Sounds like something they use at Industrial Light and Magic. »

Tron Legacy: High-definition trailer plus latest on casting

3 August 2009 5:57 AM, PDT | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Back in 1982, Disney's virtual-reality sci-fi adventure Tron seemed like a cutting-edge concept.

It's still way ahead of what can be achieved with real-world digital technology so it's no wonder the movie retains its cult status.

At this year's San Diego Comic-Con, interest in the sequel - now revealed to be called Tron Legacy - looked just as strong.

As I already reported, there was no new footage to show this year (filming on Legacy has only just wrapped) but the preview from last year's Comic-Con was screened again, this time converted into high-definition 3D.

This new HD trailer with its thrilling light-cycle race is now available online and I've included it above. Never have neon motorbikes looked so good...

To put the franchise into context, the original came out two years after Pac-Man was released on the world's arcades and a year after the arrival of Donkey Kong, the game that introduced us to Mario. »

NBC Shakes Up Schedule With Six New Scripted Series

5 May 2009 8:36 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – NBC held a special “in-front” announcement yesterday, two weeks in front of the standard upfront presentations and revealed six news series for the fall while leaving some beloved programs up in the air. On the bubble shows “Southland” and “Heroes” were renewed, but the jury is still out on “Chuck,” “Medium,” “Law & Order,” and “My Name is Earl”.

Of course, the focus of the peacock network in yesterday’s presentation was on “The Jay Leno Show,” which will air five nights a week in primetime, reducing time slots for new and returning programming. Consequently, if your favorite show doesn’t make it to the fall, blame Jay.

The NBC event did not unveil the actual complete schedule, just making a few announcements about new programming, so there are still a few question marks about some of its bubble shows but struggling “Southland,” “Heroes,” and “Parks and Recreation” did get the reprieve for the fall. »

Tim McGraw Teams Up With Sandra Bullock On Film

16 April 2009 8:37 AM, PDT | icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news »

Tim McGraw is one lucky man. He continually finds himself surrounded by beautiful women. He's married to Faith Hill, appeared with Reese Witherspoon in last year's movie Four Christmases and is now set to co-star with Sandra Bullock in a new film based on a true story.

The Blind Side is a movie about a wealthy couple, Sean and Leigh Anne Touhy, who take in a homeless African-American teenager and mentor him. The movie begins shooting in Atlanta later this month and is based on the best-selling book, The Blind Side: Evolution Of The Game, written by Michael Lewis and based on the real-life story of Michael Oher. Oher who inspired the book, is expected to be selected in the first round of this year's NFL draft.

While Tim is a country singer first, his film resume is growing. His films include The Kingdom, Black Cloud, Four Christmases, Friday Night Lights and Flicka. »
