‘Predators’ Director Defends Adrien Brody Pick

10 hours ago | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Nimród Antal is in the middle of shooting Predators for 20th Century Fox and producer Robert Rodriguez, but the director recently took the time to do a phone interview promoting his third movie, Armored.

ComingSoon was able to ask about this weekend’s release and squeezed a few details about the Predator franchise relaunch due out July 2010.

Aside from the Hungarian name, the filmmaker has taken some flack for casting Oscar-winner Adrien Brody in the lead for the next in a series accustomed to the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Here’s what Antal had to say in his own defense.  “It was a challenge in finding a balance. I think when we cast Adrian, there were a lot of people going, ‘What?’ but at the same time, if we cast a Vin Diesel in that role or if we cast anyone who is Arnold-esque, we would have been attacked for doing that. »

11 November 2009 7:30 AM, PST | Televisionary | See recent Televisionary news »

Looking to discuss last night's episode of ABC's alien invasion drama V? Head over to the Los Angeles Times/Show Tracker site to read my take on the series' second episode ("There Is No Normal Anymore") in a piece entitled "V: Upsetting the Apple Cart." Lots to discuss including some very intention shout-outs to creator Scott Peters' last series, The 4400, new reveals involving several of the characters, and a rather interesting ending, to boot. Did you enjoy the second episode? Was it as good as the pilot? Are you sticking around for the ride? Or waiting to watch the first four episodes after the Olympics (when V returns with new episodes)? Head to the comments section to discuss. Next week on V ("A Bright New Day"), Chad reports from the Peace Ambassador Center as 100 diplomatic visas are being issued to the first wave of American Visitors, with Anna getting the first, »

TV News: V Brings on Chuck Producer, Zuleikha Robinson Now a Lost Series Regular

3 November 2009 10:32 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

If you had issues with the V series premiere tonight, there is a chance that the series could get better as the season goes on, especially now that we've learned that Chuck executive producer/writer Scott Rosenbaum will be taking over the show as executive producer/showrunner. The fledgling series is no stranger to creative struggles. Original showrunner Jeff Bell (Angel, Alias) was replaced in the summer by Scott Peters (The 4400), who also wrote the pilot. Peters will continue working on the show, but the heavy lifting will now be Rosenbaum's duty. This is good news for V, because the show could certainly use some polishing. Even though we had heard that the pilot was getting slightly reworked, I didn't see much of a difference from the version we saw at Comic-con. The dialog is still clunky as all hell, and as much as I loved Elizabeth Mitchell in Lost, »

ABC Offers 'V' for Vendetta

3 November 2009 10:00 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

ABC's reboot of Kenneth Johnson's '80s miniseries V (which originally aired on NBC) debuted last night, and for the most part, it was pretty entertaining.

In less than an hour, writer/exec producer Scott Peters (The 4400) sets up the gambit—visitors from another planet who come to Earth in search of natural resources, promising peace and prosperity, and quickly polarize humanity into those who are taken in by the Visitors' claims of benevolence, and those who immediately distrust them.

Whether wisely or not, Peters chose to be very economical with time and got things off to a blistering start. Consequently, the entire setup happens within the first installment. Unlike the original '80s show, which took more time to reveal the Visitors' true nature, the new series took us from arrival, to suspicion, to resistance, to revelation about the aliens' reptilian nature, all in the first episode. »

'V' Looks To 'Chuck' For Its Third Showrunner

3 November 2009 10:42 AM, PST | AirlockAlpha.com | See recent Airlock Alpha news »

At some point, both Warner Bros. Television and ABC will be happy with who is leading its new series "V." After holding the reins for just a single episode, Warner Bros. has removed "The 4400" executive producer Scott Peters from the showrunner position on "V" and replaced him with Scott Rosenbaum. This is the second change at the top spot since production started on "V," which stars Elizabeth Mitchell, Morena Baccarin, Morris Chestnut and Scott Wolf. The pilot episode, which aired tonight on ABC, was done under the leadership of Jeff Bell. After Peters was given showrunner responsibilities, Bell -- who had worked on other shows such as "Harper's Island," "Alias" and "Angel" -- remained in an executive producer role following the change. However, with Rosenbaum coming on board, Bell ... »

TV Review: ABC’s Reboot of ‘V’ Feels Rushed But Promising

3 November 2009 9:46 AM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Reboots of classic TV programs have been a tough sell lately as shows like “Bionic Woman” and “Knight Rider” have failed to connect with critics or audiences. The long-in-the-works reboot of “V” feels like a more appropriate and timely attempt to rekindle a dead franchise, as the depressing state of the world seems downright in need of an alien savior. With only one episode available for critics, it’s too soon to tell whether or not “V” will suffer the same fate as its recent remake brethren or if it will rise above and be another feather in the cap of a network that has been creatively rejunevated with shows like “Modern Family” and “FlashForward”. The premiere is deeply flawed but there’s reason to believe “V” could be a hit.

Television Rating: 3.5/5.0

“V” opens with three title cards that read…

“Where were you when JFK was assassinated?”

Watch the first 8 minutes of V

24 October 2009 10:08 AM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

ABC has released the first eight minutes of the first episode of the reimagined V, set for broadcast on November 3.

The new V follows the storyline of the 1980s original where a seemingly benevolent alien race arrives in gigantic flying saucers and offers us their friendship and technology in exchange for help for their world. However, the new V has a different slate of characters to it including the main one, FBI agent Erica Evans (played by Lost's Elizabeth Mitchell.) Evans uncovers signs that point to a secret agenda behind the Visitors, one that will mark the end of humanity if it's allowed to unfold to its fruition. Morena Baccarin (Firefly) plays Anna, the Visitors' leader, Morris Chestnut (The Cave) is Ryan Nichols, Joel Gretsch (The 4400) is Father Jack and Scott Wolf (Party of Five) is Chad Decker, an ambitious television news personality.

In case you have not seen one of the frequently airing ads for ABC's re-envisioning of V, the alphabet network is now sharing the first 9 minutes of the pilot online to introduce the core cast and the moment the Visitors arrive Independence Day style.

V stars Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost), Ryan Nichols, Joel Gretsch (The 4400), Lourdes Benedicto, Logan Huffman, Laura Vandervoort, Morena Baccarin and Scott Wolf.

ABC is debuting V as a miniseries event on November 3 with additional episodes planned for early 2010. Ratings will determine whether V moves forward as a full blown series or is cut short before the Visitors have the opportunity to fully execute their nefarious true intentions.

ABC's Sky-Writing Campaign for 'V'

19 October 2009 9:05 PM, PDT | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

By now you may have already heard that ABC plans to keep its viewers focused on aliens by directing their eyes skyward—the network is utilizing a skywriting campaign for its V series.

The series, which kicks off on November 3, is an update of the 1980s' miniseries in which massive spaceships simultaneously appear over 29 cities around the world, where the Visitors (or Vs) seemly promote a message of peace. The Vs are generous, offering to share their advanced technology, but eventually turn out to be not quite as advertised.

Twenty-two different skywriting messages will display the big red V in the skies of 15 different major metropolitan cities in the United States. The campaign will run from Oct. 23 through Nov. 3.

The cities in the campaign include New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Seattle, Orlando, Philadelphia, Tempe, Atlanta, Dallas, Austin and Las Vegas.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season Two Blu-Ray Review

8 October 2009 8:57 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

As a science fiction nerd, I was onboard Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles at the word “Terminator”.  The show focuses on the bond between Sarah and her son John as they work together with the first cute Terminator, Cameron, to stave off Armageddon.  Were they successful?  Was it entertaining?  More after the jump.

For those unfamiliar with the Terminator franchise… In the first film, aptly titled The Terminator, Kyle Reese comes back to the present to protect Sarah Connor from a killer robot called, you guessed it, the Terminator (played by then actor, now Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger).  While in our present, Reese regales Sarah with stories of his heroic fight with the resistance against machines behind their leader, her son John.  Prior to his arrival, Sarah wasn’t even pregnant.  A little bit of intimacy with Kyle solves that problem (thanks time travel!)  Sarah then goes about trying »
