Paula Patton thinks playing a lesbian is important in "Precious"

10 November 2009 10:00 AM, PST | AfterEllen.com | See recent AfterEllen.com news »

If you weren't familiar with Paula Patton before Precious, you should get acquainted with her in the new issue of Giant magazine.

Being called "the next Halle Barry" is a great compliment, especially for a relatively new actress like Paula.

Her first film was 2005's Hitch and she's only been in a handful since then. Fortunately for her, she's been able to land parts in fairly high profile films like Idlewild from the men behind Outkast and now in Precious, which broke box office records this weekend.

Patton plays Ms. Rain, a lesbian teacher that helps Precious to question her life's worth and her sexuality. In this great video of interviews, Paula discusses her love of Gabby Sidibe (the actress who played Precious) and why it was important that her character be a lesbian.

With so many other stars in the film, it's important not to ignore Paula Patton — she's »

Josh Duhamel to star in Walt Becker-helmed comedy.

15 October 2009 2:26 AM, PDT | Movie Jungle | See recent Movie Jungle news »

Josh Duhamel is set to star in the Walt Becker-directed "What's He Got?" written by "Hitch" scribe Kevin Bisch. All that's known is that it's a high-concept romantic comedy. Becker will produce alongside Andrew Panay and Category 5's Brian Sher. Disney put down $900,000 against $1.6 million to acquire the comedy pitch. Becker directed the uproariously funny "Wild Hogs" for the studio as well as the upcoming "Old Dogs" which also stars John Travolta alongside Robin Williams and Travolta's wife Kelly Preston. »

15 October 2009 12:44 AM, PDT | TotalFilm | See recent TotalFilm news »

Bucking the recent trend of studio script buys drying up, Disney has just splashed some cash to purchase a comedy pitch called What's He Got for Transformers' Josh Duhamel to star in. Walt Becker - who inflicted Wild Hogs (below) on the world, and looks like he'll do the same with Old Dogs - is attached to direct the film, though very little else is known about it. Kevin Bisch, who wrote Hitch, penned this latest offering, which is described as a high concept romantic comedy. So we decided to offer up some guesses. See which one...

Interview Time: Mark Fienberg

21 September 2009 2:50 PM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

With the recent release of Play The Game out in theaters scattered across the nation, I was able to talk to the writer and director of the independent comedy, Mark Fienberg.

Melissa: When it comes to creating David (Paul Campbell), how did you do it? Is there any sort of inspiration you drew from a family member, yourself or somebody?

Fienberg: Well, David as the ladies man was probably the ladies man that I hoped I would be someday, but not necessarily the ladies man I am. You know, all of the dirty tricks that you learn through the movie were deifnitely things that my friends and I developed when I was single. They always seemed to work with them but never worked for me so I didn’t know what I was doing wrong. The character, I think, is more of the guy that I dreamed about being than what I actually was. »

Recession Forces Hugh Jackman to Become ‘Avon Man’

16 July 2009 10:21 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Damn this recession! When will the turn around come? So many have been laid off, so many are wandering aimlessly down the streets in tattered clothes, so many are eating beans out of cans. And now, the economic downturn's latest victim is none other than super famous actor and mutton-chop enthusiast Hugh Jackman who has taken a job selling Avon products. Or, he's being cast as a character that has to sell Avon products. The details are still shaky in my head. According to Variety, the X-man will join Fox's Avon Man, the story of a car salesman who loses his job and sells out his masculinity a bit to start selling Avon products. The script is from Kevin Bisch, the same guy who wrote Hitch, and it looks like it might be a comedy following in the vein of those brilliant British down-on-their-luck-moxy-group-invents-creative-way-of-making-money films like The Fully Monty and Kinky Boots. Talk about your change in roles. Super-Aussie Hugh Jackman, hot off his performance as the bristling, beer-guzzling slicer-dicer Wolverine in X-Men Origins: Wolverine has signed up for a role as ... an Avon salesman.

Jackman will play a laid-off auto salesman who reluctantly becomes an Avon representative and survives emasculating humiliation to become a top earner, saving his family from financial ruin.

Comedy writer Kevin Bisch (Hitch) pitched Avon Man to 20th Century Fox and they acquired the rights with Bisch attached as screenwriter. Jackman and Seed Productions' John Palermo will produce with Krasnoff Foster Entertainment.

Hugh Jackman: Avon Lady?

15 July 2009 6:48 PM, PDT | Fandango | See recent Fandango news »

When you think of Hugh Jackman, you think tough, handsome, and rugged – the kind of guy you'd expect to play Wolverine in the X-Men films or an Australian cowboy in the film Australia. One role you probably never expected to see Hugh Jackman in is as an Avon salesman, which is a job that's usually held by women because, well, they're selling make-up and most men don't wear make-up. (Not that there's anything wrong with wearing make-up if you're a guy … but, um, okay, I'll just shut up now.) Variety tells us that 20th Century Fox has acquired a comedy pitch from Kevin Bisch (Hitch) called Avon Man as a potential starring vehicle for Hugh Jackman. The film, which sort of sounds like America's version of The Full Monty, tells of a group of laid...
