There was a time — like, in the era of NBC's Friends — when the post-Super Bowl spot was the most-watched telecast on broadcast television besides, well, the big game itself. (Can you believe Friends drew 52 million in its post-Bowl performance?) And while the spot isn't quite as lustrous as it once was (the American Idol finale seems to be a the lead-in du jour), let's get real: Everyone wants a piece of the nearly 100 million viewers the Super Bowl draws. So this year the Super Bowl is on CBS, and the Hollywood Reporter has identified four potentials for the plum programming: The Big Bang Theory, »

Dear Jay,
Let me start by stating that I think you are a very funny man. I have been following your career for years and you're great. You were wonderful in Jerry Maguire. Of course, you were speaking lines written by Cameron Crowe, so that was a plus, but you delivered the performance. Bravo, Jay Mohr.
That said, I have to talk to you now about Gary Unmarried. Jay, you can make this so much better. Really, you are capable of so much more. Yes, you don't have Cameron Crowe writing for you now. I'm fully aware of that. But you're there.
Gary Unmarried may have started as a formula, and it still has too much of that formula intact. The bitchy, controlling wife/ex-wife? Haven't we seen the Allison character on Two and a Half Men (Judith), Everybody Loves Raymond (Deborah), The King of Queens (Carrie)? Do you see the pattern here? »

American Idol and America's Got Talent help put Cowell to $75m and put him ahead of Donald Trump
Simon Cowell has been named the highest paid man on primetime television in the Us, with estimated earnings of $75m (£45m) last year.
Cowell collected the haul for his work as a judge on the talent show American Idol and as the creator of America's Got Talent.
The business magazine Forbes put the Brit ahead of Donald Trump, the host of the Us version of The Apprentice, who made an estimated $50m in the year to 1 June. The American Idol host, Ryan Seacrest, came third, with $38m.
Hugh Laurie, who has become a star in the Us for his portrayal of a curmudgeonly physician in Fox drama House, was the only other British member of Forbes' list of the top 10 male earners on prime-time Us TV.
He collected an estimated $10m last year, »

From "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell to "Two and a Half Men" star Charlie Sheen, Et knows who topped the Forbes.com list of primetime's top earning males. Forbes reveals that Cowell is the highest paid man in TV, pulling in $75 million in a year. You can buy a lot of chest-hair-baring T-shirts with $75 million. Forbes magazine estimates that "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell pulls down that much loot every year, making him the top-earning man in prime time in the U.S.
That haul easily put him ahead of the #2 gentleman on the list, "The Apprentice" host Donald Trump ($50 million), not to mention Cowell's frequent verbal sparring partner, the second-hardest-working-man-in-show- business, "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest, who rounds out the top three at $38 million. The calculations are based on estimated pre-tax earnings from June 1, 2008 to June 1, 2009.
Like Cowell — who also has a record label and several other TV hosting gigs and has shepherded the careers of singers like Susan Boyle and Leona Lewis — many of the men on »

The vampires are feasting on the nominations list of 2010 People's Choice Awards. Announced Tuesday, November 10 at Beverly Hills' Sls Hotel, "True Blood" is among the shows gathering three nods. The CW's "The Vampire Diaries" follows next with two.
The HBO show takes in almost all the categories possible for one show to achieve, only missing the spot in Favorite Drama Actor. Meanwhile, as a newcomer "The Vampire Diaries" attains the honor to battle it out with "True Blood", "Lost", "Heroes" and "Supernatural" in the category of Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show.
However, not only the blood suckers are dominating the list but also the doctors. Representing "Grey's Anatomy" are Seattle Grace medical practitioners such as Patrick Dempsey and Katherine Heigl, and from "House M.D.", it's the chief of Princeton Plainsboro, Hugh Laurie.
In the comedy categories, this year's Emmys winner "30 Rock" fails to secure a slot in the Favorite Comedy but »

Who needs critics? Who needs experts? Since the dawn of the internet and the democratization of entertainment, who really needs someone to tell them what is good and what is not good? Clearly, the people who made up the list of nominees below -- the 18 million voters of the People's Choice Awards -- need some assistance. It is sad -- void of great drama such as Mad Men and full of teenie-bopper schlock like Twilight -- but also triumphant, as it makes me feel great about my own job security. Thank you America, for once again proving that you need me. The 2009 People's Choice Awards will air on January 6, 2010 on CBS. For more, including all of the music nominations, check out People's Choice.com. All of the television, film and web-related categories are below. As glad as we were that Charlie managed to save his fiancee Chelsea's boobs last week, let's face it, no one tunes in to Two and a Half Men to watch Charlie as a married man.
There's about a million other generic sitcoms to see families. We tune in to this generic sitcom to live vicariously through the world's ultimate bachelor. So luckily, last night's episode, which started with Charlie and Chelsea setting a date, ended with Charlie and Alan in bed together.
Woh, wait, what!? You can read our "Untainted by Filth" recap to find out the details. We're just hoping this possible infedelity is enough to end the engagement that's weighing down this show.
Surprisingly, one of the funniest scenes in the episode involved the recently underutilized Jake. The scene between Jake and Chelsea discussing Charlie's string of women prior to her was classic.
Look, we know Jake »
