Sometimes, when you hear a movie is being turned into a TV show, you can’t help but cringe. It’s not always easy to make the transition from feature film to television show, especially when the movie has a loyal following. Some of the movies that have made the best transition into the TV world include M.A.S.H, Stargate, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Could Gattaca join that list?
Though often overlooked, Gattaca was one of the more interesting science fiction films to come out of the 1990s. Featuring Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman, and Jude Law, the movie explored a futuristic society where genetic engineering was the norm, creating a world where “Valids” (individuals who had been genetically enhanced before birth) live in a socially superior position to “Invalids” (average Joes like you and me).

Let's start with the most interesting TV news tonight: MTV got to sit down with Gil Grant (24, NCIS:La), writer of the upcoming Gattaca television series, and managed to get some fascinating info from him. If you were wondering how Andrew Niccol's film would be adapted to TV, I have two words for you: Police procedural. While it's far from a unique concept on television, the idea of making one of the cops an Invalid (a person born without the benefit of genetic diagnosis), and another a genetically superior Valid, does seem somewhat inspired. There's a reason police procedurals have taken off so much---they're simply perfectly suited to TV storytelling. It also works well for this particular project because being in a police station will give us an inside glimpse into Gattaca's society of genetic have and have-nots. Grant is also adding another concept not found in the film, »

The idea of a “Gattaca” TV show sounds like a winner when I first heard it, but the idea of turning Andrew Niccol’s perfectly honed world into another generic TV cop show on TV? Aw, man, I don’t know, that sounds, well, generic to me. In any case, Gil Grant, who has been assigned to adapt the movie into a TV show for producer Denis Leary recently talked to MTV about his approach to the show. Grant confirms that Andrew Niccol has nothing to do with the show, will probably have no involvement whatsoever, and for better or worst, Grant plans to introduce a more procedural cop show vibe into “Gattaca”. Grant is no stranger to procedural shows, having worked on the incredibly dull but unfathomably popular “NCIS” shows, as well as the more enjoyable “24″. “I came up with a world which is populated with Valids and Invalids, »

The people have spoken and the nominees are in. The 36th annual People’s Choice Awards are the only award show in which the fans are able to choose the top five nominees in each category. There were three designs that the fans could choose from and the new trophy was revealed on November 10th. The trophy will be created by Waterford Crystal in Ireland and they will also create special wine flutes for the celebrities to toast each other. This year appears to be the year of the vampires. There's still no word on when Chuck will debut on NBC.
But more casting news continues to trickle in about this beloved series. The latest involves a guest star even tougher than Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Fans can look forward to an appearance by Robert Patrick midway through the third season. The actor is best known for playing the T-1000 in Terminator 2. He popped up, as Colonel Merton Bell, on an episode of NCIS this year.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Patrick will portray Col. Keller on Chuck. The character is a mysterious figure from Casey’s past.
We can't wait for this show to return. »

For a quote-unquote procedural military crime drama, NCIS has some pretty awesome characters. This was our lasting impression from last night's terrific episode, "Endgame."
Case in point: Leon Vance.
The NCIS director may not strike you as particularly interesting at first glance, but the back story and family components we were introduced to last night left us wanting more.
Vance and his weird connection to North Korean sniper Kai, who killed his partner in 1992, fueled the episode, which ended with the two facing off, guns drawn, at his house.
Despite dreaming of taking her out for 17 years, he couldn't do it following Gibbs' revelation that Kai was merely out to punish the North Koreans who made her what she is.
Kai was basically on a suicide mission, and after killing two men in the U.S. responsible for her assassin training (thus sparking the NCIS investigation), she came to Vance. »

The nominees for the 36th Annual People's Choice Awards has been unveiled Tuesday, November 10, and country singer Taylor Swift has received three nominations. The "You Belong with Me" hitmaker thus leads the pack in the music field, collecting more nods than fellow singers Carrie Underwood, Beyonce Knowles and Lady GaGa.
Through the announcement made at the Sls Hotel in Beverly Hills, it is uncovered that 19-year-old Swift will be competing against last year's favorite Underwood in two categories, Favorite Female Artist, for which she will be up against Beyonce as well, and Favorite Country Artist. She, moreover, vies for Favorite Pop Artist and is in competition with GaGa, Britney Spears, Katy Perry and Black Eyed Peas for the title.
Beside Swift, other young Hollywoods collecting nominations for the awards are "Twilight" trio, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner. In addition to the nod for Favorite On-Screen Team, Pattinson, Stewart »

The vampires are feasting on the nominations list of 2010 People's Choice Awards. Announced Tuesday, November 10 at Beverly Hills' Sls Hotel, "True Blood" is among the shows gathering three nods. The CW's "The Vampire Diaries" follows next with two.
The HBO show takes in almost all the categories possible for one show to achieve, only missing the spot in Favorite Drama Actor. Meanwhile, as a newcomer "The Vampire Diaries" attains the honor to battle it out with "True Blood", "Lost", "Heroes" and "Supernatural" in the category of Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show.
However, not only the blood suckers are dominating the list but also the doctors. Representing "Grey's Anatomy" are Seattle Grace medical practitioners such as Patrick Dempsey and Katherine Heigl, and from "House M.D.", it's the chief of Princeton Plainsboro, Hugh Laurie.
In the comedy categories, this year's Emmys winner "30 Rock" fails to secure a slot in the Favorite Comedy but »

Who needs critics? Who needs experts? Since the dawn of the internet and the democratization of entertainment, who really needs someone to tell them what is good and what is not good? Clearly, the people who made up the list of nominees below -- the 18 million voters of the People's Choice Awards -- need some assistance. It is sad -- void of great drama such as Mad Men and full of teenie-bopper schlock like Twilight -- but also triumphant, as it makes me feel great about my own job security. Thank you America, for once again proving that you need me. The 2009 People's Choice Awards will air on January 6, 2010 on CBS. The fact that NCIS is currently the highest rated series today apparently doesn't escape even the powers-that-be. TV Guide reports that Ray Mabus, the Us Secretary of the Navy is appearing on NCIS, although he's not playing the Secretary of the Navy, but an NCIS agent. Apparently, Sec. Mabus is a big fan of the CBS procedural, and, judging from the ratings, he's one of a multitude.
The Navy officer is set to appear on the show's Thanksgiving episode called "Child's Play" where Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and the rest of the team hold off Thanksgiving festivities when a dead Marine comes up. The investigation leads them into the life of a 12-year-old prodigy (Madeline Carroll), who may be the killer's next target.

If last week's episode was all about Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and his legendary mentor, tonight on NCIS, it's all about Vance (Rocky Carroll). So for those who like him, it's your lucky week. For those who don't like him (and there are a lot, judging from the comments), maybe this can change your mind?
On "Endgame" Vance's family is once again put into danger when an assassin from his past returns to threaten their safety, and the team works on helping Vance face his troubled past. The assassin in question, however, is not just your typical assassin. It's the number one assassin the world, the type who'd dip bullets into lethal poison just to be on the safe side. As if that wasn't bad enough, she's also a knockout. And she's after Vance, his family, or both.

Yesterday, on his Watching TV blog, Ken Tucker noted with surprise that he found the Taylor Swift-hosted Saturday Night Live the show's best episode of the season. Commenters' reactions were truly a mixed bag. Some, like lei, loved Swift's performance ("[She's] the female Justin Timberlake of SNL – have her on often and it's a must watch"), while just as many reacted with outrage (Jonathan Juarbe: "She was horrendous and utterly painful to watch, oh and her voice…how is she making money!"). I thought Swift did an okay job -- her awkward Kate Gosselin impression was actually spot-on (though I »

Both Mark Harmon and Rocky Carroll, who play Gibbs and Vance respectively on NCIS, agree that the success of the CBS procedural is due in large part to it being not your typical procedural.
"You've got to have a thick skin to work here. This is a group who likes to have fun," says Harmon, while Carroll credits the fact that the NCIS characters are three-dimensional, including their quirks and idiosyncrasies.
