DVD LINKS: RELEASE DATES | NEW DVDS | REVIEWS | RSS FEED The Godfather Trilogy: The Coppola Restoration Was there ever a question what I was going to lead with this week? Paramount's restoration of the Godfather trilogy is a godsend and I already brought you the trailer, a 2001 vs. 2008 comparison as well as my review. However, I forgot to mention in the review that Steven Spielberg was actually the one that approached Paramount's Brad Grey on behalf of Francis Ford Coppola asking to begin the restoration on his "first" day when DreamWorks and Paramount teamed up. Strange the restored version would come out only a few days after Paramount and DreamWorks split. BUY THE TRILOGY: DVD Trilogy | Blu-Ray Trilogy

Drew Barrymore's ex-boyfriend Justin Long has reportedly quit a role in the actress' directorial debut Whip It - because he is still too raw from their split to work alongside her.
The pair parted ways earlier this month (7Jul08), after dating for one year.
And Dodgeball star Long is still reeling from being dumped by Barrymore - and is not ready to return to work, according to E! Online.
A source tells the website, "He couldn't stand working with her and not being with her. He's too upset.
"She dumped him. She was hot and cold. One minute she was in love with him and the next she wanted to break up with him."

Warner Bros. is set to produce the big-screen adaptation of Wendy and Richard Pini’s cult comic “Elfquest,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Rawson Marshall Thurber, director of “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story,” will write, helm and produce the film.
Created in 1978 “Elfquest” focuses on a tribe of elves who try to co-exist with other fictional species on an Earth-like planet with two moons.
I have never heard of the series before, but apparently the comics target a more mature audience. If you would like to find out more about “Elfquest,” click here to visit the official Web site.

Here's another opportunity for a big time movie studio to do the right thing and let an animated creation remain in its original form. The Hollywood Reporter says Warner Bros. will adapt the comic series Elfquest, and that Rawson Thurber will write, direct, and produce it.
Elfquest began 30 years ago as a self-published comic by Richard and Wendy Pini. It's one of the few titles to have been released by both Marvel and DC at various points in its journey. The central characters were members of the Wolfriders, an elf tribe that fought with humans and trolls on some distant but similar planet. Also, they fought accident attorneys, who are the enemies of everyone.
That's not true. Well, accident attorneys are the enemy; Wolfriders didn't fight them, though.
Now, fans of the series will want to know who this Rawson Thurber character is. I had that same thought, the same Elfquestion,

Hollywood couple Drew Barrymore and Justin Long have split less than four months after the actress cooed about her lover on TV talk show Oprah.
Back in March, the Charlie's Angels star told TV host Oprah Winfrey she was mad about Long.
She said her romance with the Dodgeball actor was "healthy, productive, supportive and full of humour".
A spokesman for Barrymore tells America's Star magazine, "I can confirm the split but have no other comment."
The couple started dating in August after meeting on the set of upcoming movie He's Just Not That Into You.

This week is something of a nostalgia trip with a period comedy, Freddie Prinze Jr. and a concert documentary about a group of men who, by all the laws of man and nature, should not still be alive and walking around.

After being nominated for the Palme d'Or an incredible five times at Cannes, it's no wonder that director Hou Hsiao-hsien has become a Francophile. In his first film outside of Asia, the "Three Times" auteur directs the country's first lady of cinema, Juliette Binoche, in a story about an overburdened mother who receives a much-needed lift from her son's Chinese nanny (Song Fang) as they turn the City of Lights into a magical playground for the 7-year-old Simon . a tribute to Albert Lamorisse's 1956 short. In French with subtitles.
