• Tony-winning composer Maury Yeston talked in great detail to Harry Haun about the journey of "Nine" from screen (as "8 1/2") to stage and back to screen. "There are only two ways to approach Broadway shows becoming movies," Yeston says. "One of them is to be an over-controlling fuddy-duddy and not let anybody change anything. The other is to step back and go with the new medium." For Yeston, "The adaptation back into film was a very organic one that made a tremendous amount of sense. It was a great opportunity to allow this piece -- which had been so cinematic to begin with -- to find again its place in the grammar of cinema. That means things like dissolves, edits, close-ups, lighting effects -- things film can do for exposition to get inside the mind." Playbill

Several months ago while Quentin Tarantino promoted Inglourious Basterds, he mentioned that he might only make a few more films before he retires because, as he said, he didn't want to make "old man" movies. If anyone is unclear as to precisely what an "old man" movie is, they need look no further than Everybody's Fine, Robert De Niro's latest film, about a father trying to reconnect with his adult children after the death of his wife.
De Niro, once an indisputable fount of actorly integrity and hard work, has in recent years played a series of characters that either demanded little of his oft-discussed commitment, or exploited his persona as an intimidating figure both on and off screen. And while the character he plays here indicates a return to the kind of character work that made him a screen icon, there's no denying that the film itself is »

In this Sounds Jewish film special to coincide with the UK Jewish Film Festival, join Jason Solomons as he speaks to the Coen brothers about their most Jewish film to date and to Lawrence Bender, the producer of Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, what he calls a "Jewish wet dream".
Plus Jason will be talking about anti-Israel activism within the film industry, hearing about Ajami, a cracking new urban tale from the mixed Arab-Jewish city of Jaffa and finding out why the rite of passage for Jewish girls, the batmitzvah, has been overlooked in film – until now – with I am Ruthie Segal, Hear me Roar.
Sounds Jewish is produced with the Jewish Community Centre for London.

They’ve only made a handful of films together but, given that two of those films can rightly be considered amongst the greatest ever made, it’s fair to say that a Harvey Keitel/Robert De Niro reunion is something most film fans would want to see. And now they’re about to get their wish. For, to the Scorsese double whammy of Mean Streets and Taxi Driver (sorry, James Mangold, but Cop Land doesn’t quite make the list), we can soon add… Little Fockers?!? Oh. Wow. Well, they do say be careful what you wish for.Keitel has signed on to the third film in the Meet The Parents series (to call it a trilogy would be far too grandiose) which will, of course, reunite the comedy team of Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro. I feel very compelled to write about foreign actresses. Many I admire, some are colleagues, and most are around my age. There is so much young female talent circling around France, my adopted home country. Someone had to write about it! So here is a list, and those to look out for in upcoming films, all coming from France-and hopefully to take the Us by storm very soon. 5. Isild Le Besco This young woman has it all. Beauty, grace, and a raw energy and eerie presence on the big screen. I first saw her with Emmanuelle Seigner in the French drama Back Stage and she is heartbreaking. Her big eyes, her ability to cry from the inner parts of her soul, make her effective, and she carried a talent on her shoulders that is certainly exciting. - 4. Instead of doing a cheesy list for Veteran's Day, we here at Fsr decided just to give a run down of all the war-type movies that we've covered over the years (the good, the bad, and the boots on the ground). Some of these you'll be able to pick up at the rental store on your way back home from work, but hopefully your employer was nice enough to give you the day off so you could sit back with a beer, some BBQ and a swelling fervor in remembrance of the monumental jobs done by the bravest members of our society. And since we're overloading here, we went ahead and included just about any flicks that involve soldiers and wartime. We even included some featuring those limey Brits! Look how far we've come since 1776. As an added challenge, why not watch all of them? The General (1927) Battleship Potemkin (1925) The Miracle of Morgan's Creek (1944) To Hell and Back (1955) Operation Petticoat »

Tarantino is the latest film star to be showing up on the small screen in Japan. Embarrassing? Or, rather, more embarrassing than Brad Pitt?
In the not-too distant past it was quite possible for Hollywood stars to pocket what we can only imagine are swagbags of cash for starring in some pretty goofy Japanese advertisements, safe in the knowledge that no one they knew well would ever get to see them. Unfortunately (for them, at least) YouTube has changed all that.
That said, Quentin Tarantino's latest foray into acting is unlikely to prove tremendously embarrassing - if only because it shows the director of Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction as a good sport. Tarantino is the latest celeb to appear in a long-running series of ads for Japanese mobile phone manufacturer SoftBank, starring the White family, whose members include Me (played by popular singer/actress Aya Ueto), Dad (a »

This is a cool little bit of news.
Universal (and probably all the big guns will follow suit, with the exception of Sony, perhaps) is pairing some of its upcoming Bluray releases with iPhone and iPod Touch apps that will allow for handheld interaction with the film while you are watching it on the screen.
Namely, for Bruno, Funny People, 9, American Pie Presents: The Book of Love, Public Enemies and Inglourious Basterds (which one of these doesn’t seem to fit in?) you’ll be able to access a bunch of features using the new “pocket Blu.” Pocket Blu will access your iPhone’s wifi connection and seamlessly link that to the network connection in the Bluray player itself.
According to the official press release, some of the features available through the pocket Blu app are:
Advanced Remote Control: A sleek, elegant new way to operate your Blu-ray™ player. »

Brad Pitt went out for a solo drive in his Escalade and stopped off for a meeting in La yesterday after taking Angelina, Zahara and Shiloh for a ride over the weekend. Angelina was also spotted running errands by herself, but as usual the Jolie-Pitts are managing to lay low other than their Halloween night out together. While he was tooling around town, Brad also got some fun news – he was nominated for a People's Choice Award for Inglourious Basterds though he's up against some tough competition like Robert Pattinson. Brad Pitt has expressed his willingness to team up again with director Quentin Tarantino in "Inglourious Basterds" prequel. Eli Roth, Pitt's co-star on the action movie, told E! Online about the actor's hope for another installment for the epic war movie.
"Everybody would drop whatever they're doing to go back to work with Quentin," Roth said at the Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards presented by Movieline.com in Hollywood. "All the time, Brad says, 'Prequel, prequel!' All the 'basterds' would jump on it in a second."
Moreover, Roth claimed he has shot some scenes that will possibly be included in the movie's prequel. All right, I admit—I find this undeniably hilarious. For whatever reason, this Tumblr photoblog was started and it contains nothing but images of Brett Ratner photoshopped into recent movie posters.
Check out some of the other ones:
The Box
The Wolfman
The Road
And this one is just disturbing: Antichrist.
Some of these are really well done 'shops, too. From what I understand, this whole thing started as a recurring joke on the Xixax.com message board.
Keep up the good work, fellas.

Eli Roth can't wait to get started on an Inglourious Basterds prequel - because he's already shot a scene with Cloris Leachman that he hopes will be included.
The actor/director reveals Quentin Tarantino left a lot on the cutting room floor after wrapping the first film - and Roth feels sure it's good enough to be included in another movie.
He says, "We have three scenes that we shot in Boston that take place before the war, and Quentin says if he does the prequel, he's going to use them. They're not going to be DVD extras.
"There's a great scene with me and Cloris Leachman. I go and get her to sign the (his trademark) bat. It's me and the little old Jewish ladies of the neighbourhood."
And Roth isn't the only 'basterd' keen to make another movie.
He tells Eonline.com, "Everybody would drop whatever they're doing to go back to work with Quentin. All the time, (co-star) Brad (Pitt) says, 'Prequel, prequel!' All the 'basterds' would jump on it in a second." »

Not even Brad Pitt can stop Angelina Jolie from expanding her "rainbow" family, if Ok! magazine is to be trusted. The publication recently brought up the story in its newest issue which will go on sale in the U.S. Thursday, November 12, stating that the Academy Award-winning actress will move forth with her plan of adopting a baby from Syria, although her long-term partner isn't quite ready for it.
Ok! went on to report that her determination to "have more kids - one way or another" has caused a clash between her and the "Inglourious Basterds" star. "He has made it clear that six children are more than he can handle," an insider told the magazine. "The idea of one more seemed ludicrous, but Angie is determined to complete her rainbow family."
Should the story is true, it won't be the first time Angie legally adopted a child by herself. »
