The plastic "blue bag" that Tony Hill is often seen with was gleaned from Robson Green's research for Wire in the Blood, which involved spending time with revered criminal psychologist Julian Boon, who Green describes in part as an "extraordinary, intelligent, nice guy who carried his life in a blue bag and travelled on a double-decker bus. No-one looked at him twice."

What is the significance of the title?

Does anyone know why the series is called Wire in the Blood? We have been having a discussion about this and looked up a Dictionary of Quotations, in case it was something Shakespearean, for example, but came up with nothing, zilch.

I wondered whether it might be something to do with toughness, having wire in the blood, but am not really sure about that. Does anyone actually know or have a theory about this?

Tonight here in Australia, there's going to be an episode of Wire in the Blood on cable TV, starting in an hour. Can't wait. Will go and check which episode it is and let you know. There will be another episode tomorrow night and Silent Witness was on Friday night. Cheers
