Re-Poltergeist delayed

15 October 2009 3:55 PM, PDT | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

MGM was going to repackage the frights of Poltergeist and serve them to you on Thanksgiving 2010, but those plans seem to have been sucked into the fearsome static with Carol Anne. As Aith points out, the remake has been bounced to a vague 2011 release... which raises the question of whether it'll get made. Director Vadim Perelman (House Of Sand And Fog) had long been attached. The studio has been tiptoeing around bankruptcy for a while, so the delay (cancelation?) is conceivably more a... »

'Poltergeist' update release 'on hold'

15 October 2009 10:24 AM, PDT | Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

The release date for the forthcoming update of Poltergeist has been put on hold by MGM. House Of Sand And Fog director Vadim Perelman was confirmed to remake the 1982 Tobe Hooper-helmed horror in August. Boogeyman scribes Stiles White and Juliet Snowden later signed on to pen the screenplay for the studio. The proposed project was to debut in cinemas on November 24, 2010. However, Bloody Disgusting reports that the picture will now be filmed in early 2010, but not in time for (more) »

Poltergeist Remake Delayed

15 October 2009 7:47 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

For those you who outraged by the news that a Poltergeist remake was coming - you can now breath a little easier. Well, at least for a while longer. Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that MGM’s remake of the classic 1982 ghost-horror has been pushed back from its original November 24th, 2010 release date to an undetermined date in 2011.

As far as we know, House of Sand and Fog director, Vadim Perelman, is still set to helm the Poltergeist update, and Knowing writers, Juliet Snowden and Stiles White are still writing the screenplay. With the film being at MGM, my immediate reaction was this delay might have something to do with their recent financial difficulties. However, we now have an official reason for the delay, as the studio contacted Bloody-Disgusting directly to tell them the film’s set to start production sometime in early 2010, and they simply couldn’t get it done and »

Why 'Poltergeist' Remake Put On Hold

15 October 2009 2:09 AM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

What may be the ground behind the delay of "Poltergeist" release date has been laid bare. MGM, the studio producing the remake to Tobe Hooper's classic '80s haunted house, has provided clarification on the matter to Bloody-Disgusting (Bd), revealing that this remake movie will start the production in early 2010, which makes it impossible for the film to be "done in time for the November release."

Prior to the contact made by the studio, Bd reported that MGM may have put the production of "Poltergeist" remake on hold. It claimed that the studio has pulled the project out of its original Thanksgiving 2010 release on November 24, and bumped it to an undetermined 2011. The report sparked speculation that the delay may be caused by financial woes the studio is experiencing.

This remake is set to relive the horror of the classic 1982 scary movie from producer Steven Spielberg. MGM has signed a pair of "Boogeyman" screenwriters, »

MGM Still Vows To Remake 'Poltergeist' Next Year

14 October 2009 9:29 PM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

Understandably, news of MGM's economic woes have led people to question what will happen to several high-profile projects designed to lift the studio out of the mire. The Hobbit is moving forward as planned, and a recent report that Fox would assume at least a distribution stake in James Bond has been refuted, meaning that future box office champeen is staying put, too.

But then there's a trio of 80s movies MGM is remaking, RoboCop, Red Dawn, and Poltergeist. You could argue all three could use an update about as easily as you could argue they're such time capsules of those go-go days that a remake in any case is a bad idea. RoboCop probably garnered the most attention (although it's in a holding pattern right now) and Red Dawn is the first one coming to theaters. It's due out in September.

'Poltergeist' Remake Going Forward, Says MGM

14 October 2009 12:15 PM, PDT | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

Given MGM's current financial crisis, it perhaps comes as little surprise that the studio has removed the Poltergeist remake from its release schedule. Originally the remake was planned for a November 24, 2010 release, but now it's been suspended indeterminately.

Many people could probably care less about yet another remake. Hollywood of late is in a seemingly endless race to the bottom to dredge up every project already in its vaults, but for those who can't wait for the return of Poltergeist, your prayers may have been answered (don't worry, we won't hold it against you). According to Bloody-Disgusting, the reason the new remake has been pushed back is all about timing.

According to the studio, Vadim Perelman (House of Sand and Fog) will begin shooting Poltergeist during the first quarter of 2010. Once production is underway, the studio will have a better sense of completion and release dates.

Update: MGM Puts 'Poltergeist' Release Date on Hold

14 October 2009 11:41 AM, PDT | bloody-disgusting.com | See recent Bloody-Disgusting.com news »

Update: MGM contacted to us to let us know that the film will go into production in early 2010, so the film just couldn't have been done in time for the November release. For those of you who would rather jump off a bridge than see a remake of Steven Spielberg's classic {Pltergesit (directed by Tobe Hooper), it appears MGM might have put things on hold. The studio pulled the film from its planned November 24, 2010 release and bumped it to an undetermined 2011. Vadim Perelman (House of Sand and Fog) was set to go behind the camera (Bd; August 28, 2008). The film tells the story of a suburban home built over an Indian burial ground and thus inhabited by a nasty spook. Juliet Snowden and Stiles White penned the current draft. »

Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal Blu-ray Reviews

7 October 2009 9:02 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

For most people, just coming up with a cast of characters as wonderfully lovable as the Muppets - to say nothing of helping spearhead a pair of television classics as durable as The Muppet Show and Sesame Street - would be enough to justify an early and lucrative retirement. For Jim Henson, however, those feats only scratched the surface of his ambition, and by the early ’80s, the man who helped turn puppets from a sideshow trick into an art form was ready to try his hand at slightly more grown-up fare. The results were 1982’s The Dark Crystal and 1986’s Labyrinth, a pair of PG-rated fantasy films that connected the dots between The Muppet Movie and The Lord of the Rings. Neither film made much of an impression at the box office, but they’ve both acquired cult status over the years - and now they’ve both been »

The Emmy Awards get good – no really

21 September 2009 8:00 AM, PDT | AfterEllen.com | See recent AfterEllen.com news »

Wait, what’s this? An award show that is actually fun? And award show that makes me laugh? An award show that doesn’t put me into a deep and catatonic sleep? Clearly, I’m in some sort of alternate universe. But no, instead it was the 61st annual Emmy Awards telecast last night.

The show honoring the best and brightest in television handed out lots of pointy-winged statuettes to deserving people. And from start to finish (Ok, there was a lull there during the reality/miniseries segments) it made for pretty damn good TV. A look at some of the night’s highlights.

Best Conspiracy: The supporting actress in a comedy nominees

At Amy Poehler's urging, the actresses all wore silly eyewear as their nominations were called out. All, that is, except for Vanessa Williams who gave a very Wilhelmina Slater scowl instead.

Marcia Gay Harden And Shohreh Aghdashloo Duke It Out Again

3 September 2009 10:05 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Apparently Shohreh Aghdashloo has no interest in taking a break. After making her name with the emotionally grueling drama House of Sand and Fog and starring in this year's true-life, self-explanatory The Stoning of Soraya M., she's set to start in an another indie drama, The No Game, this one about a young Jewish woman who finds out her birth mother is Palestinian. Marcia Gay Harden is also in negotiations to star, according to THR, to play the girl's adoptive mother. Aghdashloo would play the biological aunt, who lives in Brooklyn and immediately bonds with the girl. What's funny, as THR points out, is that Harden beat out Aghdashloo for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 2004, and they're also up for Emmys against each other this year, for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie. I guess all that rivalry will help them when they have to pretend their »

X3 Actress In Adjustment Bureau

Anyone who remembers Shohreh Agdashloo's excellent performance in House of Sand and Fog will be glad to hear that she's back in sci-fi thriller The Adjustment Bureau, with Matt Damon, Emily Blunt and Anthony Mackie. Based, like at least 17% of all sci-fi movies ever made, on a Philip K. Dick idea, the story sees Damon play Congressman David Norris, who meets a mysterious ballerina (Blunt) but is intrigued when events seem to conspire to keep them apart.Nolfi also wrote the script, which starts shooting in September. Let's hope it turns out more Minority Report and less Imposter. »

Poltergeist Remake Coming November 24th, 2010?!

Shock Till You Drop is reporting that MGM's long-talked about remake of Tobe Hooper's classic Poltergeist is still in the future for the studio and that they've even locked down November 24th, 2010 as the release date. Last we heard, Vadim Perelman (House Of Sand And Fog) was directing from a script by Juliet Snowden and Stiles White. We reported on a script review in our previous news post Here, but apparently that was for an early draft of the movie. No cast or shooting start dates have been announced yet but we'll keep you posted!

The original Poltergeist was of course directed by Tobe Hooper and produced by Steven Spielberg. It spawned 2 sequels.

‘Poltergeist’ Remake Gets Release Date

13 August 2009 1:00 PM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

With Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th getting remade and rebooted these days, it’s only inevitable to hear about a remake of arguably one of the scariest horror films of the 1980s in Tobe Hooper’s Poltergeist.

About two years ago, it was announced that MGM Studios was working on the remake, and then a year later they announced that House of Sand and Fog director Vadim Perelman would take the helm. Even later, MGM picked up  Stiles White and Juliet Snowden, the team behind 2005’s Boogeyman and this year’s Knowing, would be penning the script.

It has now been announced that the film will have a release date of November 24 of next year. Not a terrible draw, being Thanksgiving weekend, and also one week after the first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. You can expect to see more November releases in the »

Poltergeist Remake Hits Fast Track

13 August 2009 12:37 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Word has broken from MGM about their proposed remake of the classic film Poltergeist. The studio has slated the film for release on November 24, 2010, just in time for Thanksgiving weekend. Vadim Perelman (House of Sand and Fog) is attached to direct.

The original classic from Spielberg and Tobe Hooper had a 5-year-old Heather O'Rourke playing Carol Anne, an innocent child who unconsciously stirs spirits and an evil entity from the forgotten graveyard below her house. She is a highly intuitive child and shares an eerie and unexplained psychic connection to the spirit world. Unfortunately for her, Carol Anne's life force has attracted the attention of the restless souls, who engage her in small talk and pleasant conversation - through the television!

How faithful will this remake be? Will the dreaded Poltergeist Curse rear its head? Guess we'll find out soon enough!

Poltergeist Remake Gets A Release Date

13 August 2009 12:14 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Shock Till You Drop is reporting that the remake of Tobe Hooper’s classic 1982 ghost film, Poltergeist, has been set a release date of November 24th, 2010 (Thanksgiving weekend in the U.S.). We’re still in the dark as far as a cast or production start date, but now we know when MGM is planning to release the remake.

The original Poltergeist was directed by Hooper and co-written, produced and overseen by Steven Spielberg. The film is about a family who were haunted in their house (which was built on an Indian burial ground) by ghosts that end up “kidnapping” the young daughter of the family. As stated, there’s not many details on the remake, including how close it will follow the original’s story. My guess is that in the vein of, for example, the horrible Amityville Horror remake, the story won’t change that drastically.
