So last night I sat down for some laughs with the CBS Monday night sitcom lineup. It's a weekly thing I do with my spouse, a chance to get away from the computer screen and just relax for a while. Normally, I relish this time because -- for the most part -- I love 75% of the shows from eight o'clock till CSI: Miami. (I usually empty the dishwasher during Accidentally on Purpose, sort of half-watching it because, as I've said before, it's just not working for me.)
Well, it seemed like last night's CBS comedies went off the rails. They strained to be funny, in all the wrong ways. Here are my thoughts, show by show -- including Accidentally (which I did watch):

The first episode of CBS' much-hyped, three-night CSI crossover scored, according to preliminary overnight ratings. Guest star Laurence Fishburne helped CSI: Miami earn 13.8 million viewers, a boost of 1.3 million from last week's episode. Elsewhere, it was a pretty standard Monday night with ABC's Dancing with the Stars dominating with 17.6 million viewers. Over on The CW, the controversial threesome episode of Gossip Girl (2.3 million) gave the series only a slight boost from last week's 2 million. It's a sporty kinda time out there in TV land, as evidenced by the top two shows on the broadcast networks for the week ending Nov. 8. Fox scored a home run with the final game in the World Series, which saw the New York Yankees beat the Philadelphia Phillies. The game drew 22.3 million viewers on Wednesday night to take the No. 1 position. NBC's perennially high-performing Sunday Night Football franchise—serving up a showdown between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles—followed right after that in the No. 2 spot with 21.9 million viewers. The highest-rated non-sporting event for the week—and the No. »

Last night was the beginning of what is arguably the biggest thing that could happen to the CSI franchise: one storyline, across three shows, all in one week. Now, why did this take so long to happen? Surely there are a lot more crimes that are connected to other occurrences in other cities, right? Well, we've had a few crossovers within the franchise before, and only because it's what the case calls for, and for that I'm willing to let go of that little complaint of mine. Besides, this is looking pretty good already.
As we've all known for the past few months, Laurence Fishburne will make an appearance on all three shows, as Langston goes cross-country solving a crime that is more complicated and widespread than it looks. The opening salvo was on last night's CSI: Miami, when the Mdpd crime lab's investigation into the murder of a missing »

Sometimes an actor can be just so right for a part based on where they came from. Lee Norris grew up in the basketball-friendly state of North Carolina and attended the Acc powerhouse school Wake Forest, known for a rich legacy of college basketball greatness. Norris plays Marvin "Mouth" McFadden, who becomes a basketball commentator on the hit CW series One Tree Hill, which is currently airing its seventh season on Monday nights at 8 Pm Et on the CW Network. I recently had the chance to speak with Norris over the phone about his role in this long-running series, and here's what he had to say.
I was curious how you first heard about this character Mouth and what was your first reaction about this character?

A rep for "CSI: Miami" star Eddie Cibrian has released a statement which reveals the stars legal action against Life & Style Magazine, which he contends has crossed the line by claiming Cibrian cheated on LeAnn Rimes. Both actors appeared together in a 2009 Lifetime film, "Northern Lights," married to other people at the time of production and allegedly struck up a relationship together that saw both marriages end this year. Cibrian's rep tells "Extra" in a statement: "Unfortunately Life & Style Magazine has chosen to go out with a story filled with inaccuracies and deceitful lies, presumably to titillate sales but clearly resulting in harm to Eddie Cibrian and others. Problems? What problems? Following a report earlier this week that Eddie Cibrian had been spending time with another woman - an allegation Cibrian has strenuously denied - the CSI: Miami hunk and his girlfriend, LeAnn Rimes, showed up at a nightclub Friday night after Rimes's concert in Las Vegas for a little fun, relaxation - and pole dancing. Observers spotted the carefree-seeming couple in the VIP section of Xs nightclub, where they talked, laughed and knocked back tequila drinks. Though they stayed at the venue inside the Encore Resort for only 20 minutes, there was time enough for a Pda. "They »

Going from a sweet to a bad girl, Betty gets herself a tattoo, drives fast, drinks a lot and rips a guy's front shirt open. In the next "Ugly Betty", Adam Rodriguez guest stars as the bad boy who makes Betty and Hilda's hearts beat fast. Bobby Talercio was Hilda's high school flame and Betty's schoolgirl crush.

CBS is having such a good year that they're increasing their episode orders for some of their most popular shows, according to EW. The orders total 13.5 more hours of programming. In terms of total airtime, that's the equivalent to ordering a whole new series.
This could mean a few less reruns for viewers... or that the network will be able to dump struggling shows even sooner.
CSI: Miami, How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Two and a Half Men have all been given orders for two additional episodes each.
The Big Bang Theory, Criminal Minds, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: NY, The Good Wife, and The Mentalist have each been given one more installment.
What about the rest? Are they in danger of being cancelled? Unless their ratings improve, many of them »

It lasted quite a long time for a show with a ridiculously-spelled name, but Numb3rs is nearing cancellation.
CBS has cut the episode order for this drama from 22 to 16 this season, a clear sign it won't be around in the fall of 2010.
That's bad news for fans of the show, but they can take comfort if they watch other hit CBS programs.
The network has increased the episode orders of How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, CSI: Miami, and Two and a Half Men from 22 to 24; it's also requested an additional episode of the following shows:

A CBS spokesperson is confirming that the network has cut Numb3rs' episode order from 22 to 16. Translation: This is most likely the show's final season. I'm hearing Flashpoint will likely take over the Friday 10 p.m. timeslot in February, although there's been no official confirmation of that. In related news, CBS has upped the episode orders of How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, NCIS: La, CSI: Miami, and Two and a Half Men from 22 to 24, while requesting one additional episode of Criminal Minds, CSI: NY, The Big Bang Theory, The Good Wife, CSI, and The Mentalist, bringing their totals from »
