- Despite the title, only the second and third parts are adapted from the novel "Children of Dune"; the first part is based on "Dune Messiah".
- Many of the supporting parts are played by supporting actors from "Dune" (2000), recast into different characters. For example, Korba is played by Karel Dobry who previously portrayed Dr. Liet Kynes, and Klára Issová, who played Lichna, appeared as a Fremen housemaid in the Atreides palace.
- According to interviews, Alice Krige was John Harrison's first choice to play Jessica in "Dune" (2000), but was unavailable. However, Saskia Reeves had to back out of this series because of pregnancy, so Krige was re-offered the part.
- Brian Tyler's music for this mini-series is used regularly in movie trailers, e.g. The Golden Compass (2007), Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) or Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003).
- This film introduces more actors from the Star Trek films into the Dune cast. Alec Newman has appeared on 'Star Trek: Enterprise (2001)(TV)', Steven Berkoff has appeared on 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993)(TV)', and Alice Krige appeared in Star Trek: First Contact (1996).
