After months of speculation that Twilight star Robert Pattinson might star in director Peter Berg's upcoming adaptation of Frank Herbert's "Dune," newbie gossip slangers Gossip Cop broke the scoop that Pattinson would be out of either the Dune role or his gig in Bel Ami, the sordid tale of a playboy adapted from Guy de Maupaussant's novel. Naturally, Twi-hards rejoiced at the news that RPattz will keep the role in which he romances ladies left and right, rather than the one in which he puts his hand in a pain box and rides giant space sandworms. Will Dune fans agree?
Truth be told, Pattinson was never confirmed for the Dune cast but heavy speculation had him pegged to play the part of young Paul Atreides, the heir to a noble family in writer Herbert's space opera. The character was previously played by Kyle MacLachlan in David Lynch's »

Hugo Weaving, Andy Serkis and Ian McKellan are Hobbiting! Guillermo del Toro has confirmed that all three will be back as Elrond, Gollum and big ol' gray-hat himself, Gandalf in the new The Hobbit movies, set to start shooting next year.
The films are to follow the plot of The Hobbit, with "extra" material from other work Tolkein works thrown in to round out and lengthen the story.
Still to be decided? Who'll play Bilbo, the main hero of the tale. There's some talk of James McAvoy for the role, which would suit me just fine. I've been a major fan of his since Children Of Dune. He did a nice job playing Mr. Tummus in the first Narnia film and was pretty decent in Wanted as well. So having him put on the hobbit feet and trounce across New Zealand wouldn't be a bad thing at all.

Barker’s Book Of Blood going to Sci Fi

At the recently wrapped Fangoria Weekend of Horrors convention in Los Angeles, writer/director John Harrison announced that his Clive Barker adaptation Book Of Blood will likely bypass theatrical distribution, and debut on the Sci Fi Channel this fall (by which point it will be known under its ridiculous new Syfy moniker).
“There can’t be a worse time, economically, to open an independent horror film in the U.S. than now,” the Tales From The Darkside: The Movie director told the crowd, “so we will instead do a major cable launch on Sci Fi around September. We hope to get the movie on a few big screens before then, but it’s tough.”
Harrison, who also wrote and directed the Dune miniseries and scripted its follow-up Children Of Dune for Sci Fi, hopes to pitch additional feature films to Barker’s Midnight Picture Show company. For an early minireview of Book Of Blood, »

We thought we were finished, but everybody wants to come to our scary shindig next week! Legendary Skinny Puppy singer Nivek Ogre (a.k.a. Oghr) and a few more notable genre folks have joined the lineup of the fast approaching West Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors convention, to be held April 17-19 at the Los Angeles Convention Center (1201 South Figueroa).
Ogre will appear with his Repo! The Genetic Opera cast and crew on Sunday. The singer played Pavi Largo in the cult horror/rock musical. The latest bonus guests (hey, we are running out of room!) include:

The Los Angeles Weekend of Horrors just keeps getting better, with so many guests being added (and some day-of surprises in-store!) that we can barely keep up here at Fango HQ! Prong mainman Tommy Victor, who was recently interviewed by Fangoria (read it here) will be appearing at Fangoria's Weekend Of Horrors in Los Angeles, April 17-19, 2009. Victor, who recently toured with both Ministry and Danzig, will see the release of Prong's Power Of The Damn Mixxxer (read our review) on May 12th, 2009 via 13th Planet Records.
Tommy will be appearing at the Schecter Guitar Research booth for signing sessions throughout the weekend, along with Skumlove, who's new album The Church Of The New Perversion was recently recorded and co-written with Victor.
Music from Skumlove's past album Songs Of Lust And Corrosion were featured on the Award winning Horror-Porn DVD "Grub Girl" and the B-style horror movie Intermedio starring Edward Furlong (Terminator 2) and Amber Benson (Buffy: The Vampire Slayer).

House Of Wax remake director Jaume Collet-Serra (pictured below) has joined the line-up of the upcoming West Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors convention, to be held April 17-19 at the Los Angeles Convention Center (1201 South Figueroa). Attending Sunday, the Barcelona-born Collet-Serra will be previewing his new chiller Orphan at the show. The Warner Bros./Dark Castle picture, about an evil child, opens July 24.

A panel devoted to the Night Of The Demons remake will take place at the next West Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors convention, to be held April 17-19 at the Los Angeles Convention Center (1201 South Figueroa). Appearing at the preview (slotted for Saturday) will be the film’s new Angela, Shannon Elizabeth (pictured) of Scary Movie, Cursed, 13 Ghosts and the first two American Pie movies.
Joining Elizabeth will be her Demons co-stars: Freddy Vs. A panel devoted to the new spooky flick Dark House, starring Jeffrey Combs, will take place at the next West Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors convention, to be held April 17-19 at the Los Angeles Convention Center (1201 South Figueroa). Legendary femme fatale Sybil Danning has joined the lineup of the next West Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors convention, to be held April 17-19 at the Los Angeles Convention Center (1201 South Figueroa). Danning’s long career in exploitation has included roles in Howling II, Amazon Women On The Moon, The Tomb, Reform School Girls, Chained Heat, Luigi Cozzi’s Hercules and Rob Zombie’s Halloween and Werewolves Of The SS trailer from Grindhouse.
