Men Only is quite possibly the best television programme to be shown in the United Kingdom in the past decade. Telling the story of a group of five ageing mates who play football together every tuesday night. They lose every game but don't care because as soon as the match is over they hit the pubs and the clubs and gradually their lives spiral downhill.
Right from the start you know you will need a strong stomach to cope with Men Only. The finale quite simply is the most shocking thing I have ever seen on TV and as a 17 year old I know really I should not have been watching such material as it was definately intended for a strictly adult only audience. However from the opening few scenes I was hooked on a combination of phenomenal performances and great direction.
The great thing about Men Only is the sheer fact these are ordinary people in this programme. Like me they are fanactical Crystal Palace fans and live in South London. They have ordinary jobs, one is even a doctor and it is this 'normalness' of the characters which gives they story that extra push it needed.
Men Only has a relatively unknown cast but they all give superb acting performances. In brief Men Only is sheer class and an utter mastrepiece all round. 10/10
