A fun and clever film, 1 November 2004

I picked up this movie at the rental shop in hopes of seeing another fine performance by much missed actor Glenn Quinn. The cover art didn't lead me to expect very much: it looked like a run of the mill slasher flick. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised! Filled with good performances, good direction and good music, this ended up being so much more than some of the typical garbage a lot of my friends have made me watch (some of the bigger movies of this genre with larger distribution). I actually had to buy this one!

RSVP is a black comedy where the director has a lot of fun with us. When the party first starts up, we know the main character, Nick, has offed someone, but we're not sure how and where he is. Just this makes us sit on the edge of our seat waiting for the next kill. We're introduced to a lot of good characters and watch the weapons pile up, wondering how they're going to come into play. The dialog rolls along smartly, with a realness to it and should be listened to carefully. Perhaps it is this smartness and the fact that this movie isn't the typical that is the reason so many don't seem to "get it", which is too bad. We don't have to see every bit of gore and blood, but I would suggest seeing this movie.
