An Associated Press story yesterday about the terrible performance of Jay Leno’s primetime show revealed some intriguing tidbits about how television viewing is changing in the United States: With one-third of American TV households now equipped with DVRs like TiVo, the 10 p.m. hour is emerging as a popular time for people to catch up on what they missed earlier in the evening, or earlier in the week. ... For example, many people watch CBS' "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" Thursdays at 9, tape ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" at the same time, then watch the medical soap an hour later, he said. They may tape "The Mentalist" (Thursday at 10) for later viewing. One casualty of growing DVR usage is that Friday nights, home of "Medium" and "Ugly Betty," are becoming a TV wasteland because so many people are catching up on programs they missed during the week. Television sweeps are the best; the writers save up all the juicy storylines and make them explode during the pivotal time for networks. Sweeps Week is so important because the data that is collected by the Nielsen Rating is used by networks to set advertising costs based on their results. Because of this, many networks pull out all the stops and this year is absolutely no different. Many of the sweeps episodes have aired and later this week we will see what else the networks have in store for us, but we want to know what you think so far! CSI Trilogy: CBS took three of their most popular shows and brought fans a multiple night CSI event spanning CSI: Miami (TV), CSI: NY (TV) and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (TV). The teams from each city work together to help bring down one of the largest prostitute rings and by »

The vampires are feasting on the nominations list of 2010 People's Choice Awards. Announced Tuesday, November 10 at Beverly Hills' Sls Hotel, "True Blood" is among the shows gathering three nods. The CW's "The Vampire Diaries" follows next with two.
The HBO show takes in almost all the categories possible for one show to achieve, only missing the spot in Favorite Drama Actor. Meanwhile, as a newcomer "The Vampire Diaries" attains the honor to battle it out with "True Blood", "Lost", "Heroes" and "Supernatural" in the category of Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show.
However, not only the blood suckers are dominating the list but also the doctors. Representing "Grey's Anatomy" are Seattle Grace medical practitioners such as Patrick Dempsey and Katherine Heigl, and from "House M.D.", it's the chief of Princeton Plainsboro, Hugh Laurie.
In the comedy categories, this year's Emmys winner "30 Rock" fails to secure a slot in the Favorite Comedy but »

Who needs critics? Who needs experts? Since the dawn of the internet and the democratization of entertainment, who really needs someone to tell them what is good and what is not good? Clearly, the people who made up the list of nominees below -- the 18 million voters of the People's Choice Awards -- need some assistance. It is sad -- void of great drama such as Mad Men and full of teenie-bopper schlock like Twilight -- but also triumphant, as it makes me feel great about my own job security. Thank you America, for once again proving that you need me. The 2009 People's Choice Awards will air on January 6, 2010 on CBS. For more, including all of the music nominations, check out People's Choice.com. All of the television, film and web-related categories are below. CBS is having such a good year that they're increasing their episode orders for some of their most popular shows, according to EW. The orders total 13.5 more hours of programming. In terms of total airtime, that's the equivalent to ordering a whole new series.
This could mean a few less reruns for viewers... or that the network will be able to dump struggling shows even sooner.
CSI: Miami, How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Two and a Half Men have all been given orders for two additional episodes each.
The Big Bang Theory, Criminal Minds, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: NY, The Good Wife, and The Mentalist have each been given one more installment.
What about the rest? Are they in danger of being cancelled? Unless their ratings improve, many of them »

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation star George Eads suffered from a broken back for 12 years before doctors discovered the spinal injury.
The actor, 42, reveals he hurt his tailbone during a basketball game in the late 1990s but refused to go to the hospital because he wasn't adequately insured.
But back pain forced Eads to get his aches checked out by a medic earlier this year - and he was stunned to be diagnosed with a very serious injury.
He recalls, "I was playing basketball about 12 years ago and I fell and hit my tailbone and both my legs went numb. I was a struggling actor sleeping on a futon and dirty clothes, didn't have any insurance or anything, so I just grinned and beared it and my back was really hurting for a long time.
"Then I went to the doctor and they took an X-ray and said, 'When did you break your back?' I think my pain threshold is a little bit high."
Eads was advised to undergo major surgery to correct the problem, but he had no idea he'd end up with screws holding his spinal cord together after the summer operation.
He says, "They said they could fix it but it required surgery and it was a spinal fusion. I had the surgery done and had a post op check up a month later and my X-ray was stuck up behind the doctor. I said I felt great, and said, 'Well, it could be worse, I could be that guy (in the X-ray)!' The doctor said, 'You are that guy!' and I was like, 'I didn't know I was going to get five screws in my back!' and he replied, 'Well, what did you think a spinal fusion was?'" »

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation star George Eads is engaged to marry his longterm girlfriend.
The actor has been dating Monika Casey for close to six years and decided to propose to her after she helped him through a difficult summer, which saw Eads undergo surgery to fix his broken spine.
Breaking the news on U.S. TV's The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on Monday, the actor said, "I got engaged actually to a really nice girl.
"When you go through something that terrible together... I don't know, maybe it happened for a reason. She really was my champion and really helped me get through that." »
