***1/2 out of ****
The story of EVERYTHING PUT TOGETHER is simple. Four women are pregnant all at the same time. They are all friends. One of them, named Angie, is chosen to be one of her friends' godmothers at their christening. Of course she is honored and happy to be it. And a little while later, she gives birth. The next day the baby dies of SIDS(Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and she sinks into depression. She sees things and hears things. he husband tries his best to support her, but her friends begin to completely ignore her. When she runs into them in stores and stuff, her attention grows to their baby in increasingly creepy ways. And it gets to the point where she begins to think that her son is still alive. To top off all the misery, when she goes to be the godmother for her friend's baby, there has already been another one chosen.
When a film plays on one of the greatest fears such as this, that usually means it would be sappy and there would be support. not this film, which plays for the brutally realistic tone. Director Marc Forster(MONSTER'S BALL, FINDING NEVERLAND) chooses the perfect tone for this kind of situation of depression and dead children. The audience feels what is going on more than usual due to the realism of it all. It is not recommended viewing if you are depressed. This film works, almost too well, to garner sympathy for the characters. This is not a film that can be watched without feeling something, and whether it be sadness or anger, it feels good to feel these things in a way because you know you are human.
