Okay, full disclosure: I loathe movies in which seemingly smart, talented women consider snagging a man (a barftastic expression in and of itself) to be the be-all, end-all goal of their existence. It's an insidious trope that reduces us to a flock of retrograde numbskulls. As an anthropological experiment/exercise in masochism, I dragged my husband and some pals to see Bride Wars on opening night earlier this year and I'm still scarred. (Serves me right, I know, I know.) There was a scene in which a small Tiffany box (i.e. The Coveted Ring!) falls from a closet shelf »

Who started the whole cliche where an uptight American woman hits Ireland and finds out how to loosen up by a sexy, foreign man? There's something in the water over there in Hollywood's version of the country that makes every bloody romantic comedy feature this premise. It's not as bad as something like The Ugly Truth, that's for sure, but it pretty darned blatant.
Following in the footsteps of Matchmaker, P.S. I Love You, and other romantic fare, MSN has debuted a trailer for Leap Year (check it out after the jump), the film where Matthew Goode gets to recover from the trauma of losing his new wife to a female florist (Imagine Me and You), and steal a desperate Amy Adams from the likes of Adam Scott. Now granted, she is on her way to Dublin and meets the man in Wales, but they're still heading to the land of shamrocks. »

The first trailer for the romantic comedy, Leap Year, which stars Amy Adams and Matthew Goode, has gone online.
The story follows one woman's quest to marry the 'perfect guy'. When Anna (Adams) and her beau pass their four-year anniversary without a marriage proposal, Anna finds an old Irish tradition that will let her take matters into her own hands. The tradition allows a women to propose to men but only on February 29th, so she follows her boyfriend to Dublin with the intention of getting down on bended knee but fate steps in and leaves her stranded on the other side of the Emerald Isle with only the surly but sexy Declan (Goode) to get her across the country.
At the helm of Leap Year is Anand Tucker, the director of Shopgirl and Hilary and Jackie.

Although she garnered an Academy Award nomination for her role in 1998’s Hilary and Jackie, Rachel Griffiths — currently starring in ABC’s Brothers & Sisters — says that television work suits her just fine. “I have a nice balance,” she notes in the November issue of Cookie magazine.
The ability to bring new baby Clementine Grace, 4 months, to work helps. “[Clem is there about] “half the time, depending on how my days are,” she adds.
On those days when her family of five — which includes son Banjo Patrick, 6 this month, daughter Adelaide Rose, 4, and her artist husband Andrew Taylor — are together at their Santa Monica home, »

The win came over a crowed field of competitors from all over the world, many of them with much larger budgets. The other big winner at the Pump Room of the Ambassador East awards ceremony Saturday evening was by veteran master Marco Bellocchio of Italy, who won the Silver Hugo as best director for "Vincere," the story of Mussolini's younger brother. Giovanna Mezzogiorno and Filippo Timi won Silver Hugos as best actress and actor, »

Randy Edelman returns to familiar territory – romantic comedy – as he is doing the score for Leap Year, a new film by British director Anand Tucker. The assignment of Edelman is somewhat surprising as Tucker has a long-standing working relationship with composer Barrington Pheloung, who wrote the music for Hilary and Jackie and most recently When Did You Last See Your Father? and Red Riding: 1983. The film is ... »
