Actor/comedian Chris Elliott has landed the pivotal role, as he'll appear on the November 23 episode of the sitcom, which focuses on an awkward family reunion hosted by Lily’s grandparents.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the half hour will feature childhood flashbacks that shed light on Lily’s troubled relationship with her dad.
Elliott's face should be familiar to TV and movie fans. He's probably best known for his roles in There's Something About Mary and Cabin Boy. »

With a smashing debut for Inglourious Basterds, overall business was a-boomin'. The increase over the same weekend last year was around 20 percent, making for one of the busier late August weekends on record. Storming approximately 4,400 screens at 3,165 sites, Inglourious Basterds ground out $38.1 million, ranking as the highest-grossing opening ever for a movie released in the second half of August (and 11th for the month as a whole). More importantly, among World War 2-themed pictures, only Pearl Harbor and Saving Private Ryan had greater initial attendance, and Basterds more than quadrupled the debut of recent release, Defiance, and exceeded Valkyrie's first three days by 58 percent. Basterds also set a new high for writer-director Quentin Tarantino, surpassing the start of Kill Bill Vol. 2 ($25.1 million) and more than tripling the debut of his last movie, box office disappointment Grindhouse. Inglourious Basterds succeeded where Grindhouse failed thanks to a focused marketing campaign and more »

Brett Favre may have had problems sticking to a decision about his retirement over the last couple of years, but the talking heads of the Twitter-Wood feed let their opinions be known loud and clear today. In an abbreviated rundown, I've included input from Seth Meyers, Rainn Wilson and Ashton Kutcher, among others. Whatever your take, hopefully we can all agree that he was great with Cameron Diaz in "There's Something About Mary."
The second Brett in the report today, Ratner, wished his favorite director, Roman Polanski a happy birthday. Click on down to read what he had to say alongside a post-"Inglourious Basterds" suggestion for the Weinsteins, Tom Felton's return to the gym, and Ice-t's photo op with Tracy Morgan. It's in the Twitter-Wood report for August 18, 2009.

I'm not sure if this revolving door full of different actors is an indication that the film will turn out just as jumbled and confusing, but I will say that it can't be the greatest sign of things to come. Then again, I was never really fond of a Three Stooges movie from Peter and Bobby Farrelly (There's Something About Mary) in the first place, mainly because I feel the Farrelly brothers have ...

A week ago, Variety threw up an editorial called "Can girls out-gross guys at box office?" I felt naive thinking: "Is that really a question anymore?" The mere fact that this is being asked shows that it still holds relevance. But it shouldn't. If women have proved one thing over the years, it's that comedy doesn't require a penis and testosterone.
Whether women get the chance to prove their gross-out talents, however, is another story.
But first: What is this thing called "gross-out comedy"? Isn't it when gross or shocking things come into play? The sweaty, hairy wrassling match from Borat, the spermy hair gel from There's Something About Mary, the arse-tacular baseball from Squeeze Play -- these are scenes that make you squirm, gasp, gape, and laugh. Now, however,"gross-out" is becoming a catch-all phrase for any comedy that gets an R. CBS News even used Sex and the »

Cameron Diaz and Seth Rogen may be appearing on the big screen together soon. EW.com reports that the There's Something About Mary star is in talks to star alongside Rogen in the upcoming action flick Green Hornet. The movie, an update of the classic radio program, will star Rogen as Brett Reid, a debonair newspaper publisher by day who fights crime by night, aided by his trusty sidekick Kato (who will be played in the flick by Stephen Chow). No word on which role Diaz would play, but the film—slated for a July 9, 2010 release date—is scheduled to begin shooting shortly,... »

Giant robots narrowly socked it to anachronistic dinosaurs over Independence Day weekend. With actual grosses reporting, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen weighed in with $42.3 million, while Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs came in at $41.7 million. Distributors Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox had estimated $42.5 million for each movie, which was the first time two studios had the same weekend estimate since 1998, when Titanic and The Man in the Iron Mask were in a photo finish. Paramount ended up having the more accurate Sunday projection, and that was the difference as both pictures were neck-and-neck on Friday and Saturday. With Public Enemies debuting solidly in third, business as a whole was up a tick from the same weekend last year, when Hancock was in charge.
Overall, Revenge of the Fallen has had a far more winning run than Dawn of the Dinosaurs. It will pass its predecessor's final gross in a matter of days, »

There can only be one Madonna—which is probably a good thing—but Cameron Diaz does her best to emulate the "Papa Don't Preach" singer in the new issue of V Magazine, which hits newsstands on Tuesday. The There's Something About Mary actress was shot in London by photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot for the photo-spread, which was inspired by Her Madgesty's True Blue period. (Madonna's third studio album, True Blue, was released in 1986.) Though Diaz wore Prada boots and shorts for the photo session, the conical bra was crafted by the stylist using gaffer's tape. Hopefully Cameron was able to remove... »

There's Something About Mary star Cameron Diaz recently talked to Starpulse about her upcoming depressing-but-uplifting movie My Sister's Keeper.
On the subject of family, the 37-year-old actress said:
Family is so important. What drew all of us to this story was the family, and the stories of each of these characters. I think we all related to the fact that there isn't anything that you wouldn't give someone that you love that deeply. You do whatever it takes to keep that person alive. Promoting family values and unconditional love, could My Sister's Keeper be just what Diaz's career needs? Or will it be another quickly forgotten tearjerker? Guess we'll find out when the movie hits theaters next week.

The International (Sony) An Interpol agent (Clive Owen) joins forces with a Manhattan D.A. (Naomi Watts) to bring down an arms dealing ring and a corrupt global banking cartel that’s funding them. Superlative thriller was oddly ignored by critics and audiences alike, but expertly blends intelligence (courtesy screenwriter Eric Warren Singer’s masterfully-crafted script) and full-throttle action (director Tom Tykwer stages one of the great film shoot-outs in New York’s iconic Guggenheim Museum), making this dynamite thriller reminiscent of the best work from masters such as John Frankenheimer and Robert Aldrich. Armin Mueller-Stahl is wonderful as a world-weary covert op. Bonuses: Extended scene; Featurettes; Trailer. Widescreen. Dolby 5.1 surround.
The Jack Lemmon Film Collection(Sony) Five films from the two-time Oscar winning actor, focusing on his early career: Phfft! is a zippy comedy from 1954, one of Lemmon’s earliest films, in which »

Eminem makes his triumphant return to the stage, before having an awkward encounter with Brüno.

It was hard to know who was more jacked up about Sunday night's (May 31) MTV Movie Awards: Eminem's supporters or "Twilight" fanatics. Both went home fully satisfied, though, because Slim Shady brought the heat in his first MTV performance in years and "Twilight" ruled the night, picking up five awards during the raucous show, hosted by "Saturday Night Live" funnyman Andy Samberg.
Samberg set the tone early, opening the night from a dingy port-a-potty in Mumbai and diving down into muck while holding up a crumpled snapshot of "Sex in the City" star Sarah Jessica Parker then showing up to partner with none other than Edward Cullen in high school science lab. »

Ben Stiller faced a barrage of insults from Zac Efron, Kiefer Sutherland and puppet Triumph, The Insult Comic Dog at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday as he accepted his lifetime achievement prize.
Sutherland and Efron poked fun at the actor/director as he was handed his MTV Generation Award and the offensive puppet had audience members screaming with laughter as he tore into the Zoolander star with a string of gags.
Triumph joked, "Your winning this year's Generation Award confirms what we've long suspected - after Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers and Chewbacca, they were running out of both comedians and people who looked like apes."
He added, "I guess comedy is in your DNA, as well as monkey ears, monkey arms and monkey forehead."
Meanwhile, 24 star Sutherland fought back pretend tears as he recalled his pal's most "inspiring" movie moments, suggesting Stiller's crude comedy scenes in 2004's Meet The Fockers are "what the craft of acting is all about."
He added, "Whenever I'm going through a hard time or I feel down or disillusioned, I pull out my DVD copy of There's Something About Mary and I just let it play, man," insisting the scene featuring Stiller "masturbating standing up" still inspires him.
Sutherland quipped, "It makes me realise that there is excellence out there and it is worth pursuing."
The actor ended up 'sobbing' onstage and had to be held by Stiller as he made his acceptance speech. »
