Romijn's Crazy Cravings

2 September 2008 12:13 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Model-turned-actress Rebecca Romijn's pregnancy has brought about some odd cravings.

The X-Men star is expecting twins with actor husband Jerry O'Connell next year and the tots are bringing on desires for strange edible concoctions.

O'Connell tells People.com, "Lemonade always has to be in our fridge. That's my job. (Also) soy cream cheese. It's crazy, right? Can't be cream cheese. Soy cream cheese. Do you know how difficult it is to find soy cream cheese? It's usually in the corner of the supermarket someplace!"

Possible Watchmen Movie Delay Not Fox’s Fault?

1 September 2008 6:44 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

[Update: A Los Angeles federal judge has set a Jan. 6 trial date for the Fox vs Warner Bros lawsuit, well ahead of the current release date.]

What an unbelievable mess this whole Watchmen movie fiasco has turned into. The average person has to ask themselves: How the heck does something like this happen? I mean, isn’t this why corporations have massive legal departments stocked chock full of everyone’s favorite people: lawyers?

Let’s take a look at the history of Watchmen in Hollywood to try to sort this all out.

The crux of the matter hinges on something in the movie industry known as “putting a film in turnaround.” Turnaround is basically a way for a studio that owns the rights to a property (in this case, Fox ownership of Watchmen) to “release” a project and allow another studio to make a film based on that property.

Of course the studio which owns the rights does not give this away for free, but depending on the specific arrangement either sells or “leases” the right

Trick 'R Treat Finally Coming... But To DVD?!

21 August 2008 7:32 AM, PDT | From iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news

It's been a while since we've heard anything about the directorial debut of screenwriter Michael Dougherty's Trick 'R Treat, which was originally due out in theaters last Halloween. Then it was listed as an 'upcoming release' on the most recent publicity sheet from Warner Bros. Now, while still unconfirmed, Shock is reporting that the WB are planning a direct-to-dvd release for Trick 'R Treat.

Their article quotes a reliable source as saying, "Just got an email. Warner is keeping Trick 'r Treat, but it's going direct-to-dvd." Rumor has it that the WB weren't sure how to sell the Halloween themed anthology horror film. (Um... here's a thought... release it on Halloween, maybe?!)

Regardless, with the success of The Lost Boys: The Tribe and the direct-to-dvd Raw Feed films, it'd make sense for them to go this route.

Trick 'R Treat was written and directed by Michael Dougherty (Superman Returns,

Is Wolverine In Trouble?

20 August 2008 10:01 AM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

Comic book fans had been looking so carefully at the alleged troubles of The Punisher and The Watchmen that we took our eyes off Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine*. I call it Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine because he is the star, and because it looks like it may not be director Gavin Hood’s Wolverine.

It may in fact be Fox Co-Chairman and CEO Tom Rothman’s Wolverine!

The studio chief is apparently worried that the film will be too dark and he’s overriding the decisions of the films director in order to give it a lighter tone.

Worried?

Maybe you should be.

*technically the film is called X-Men Origins: Wolverine - but I don’t really like that title.

According to Hollywood Elsewhere there has been a bit of friction between Hood and Rothman on the set recently. When I say a bit, what I really mean is “a hell of a lot.

Model-turned-actress Rebecca Romijn is planning the ultimate tribute to her heroine Dolly Parton - she'll name one of her twins after the country music icon.

The X-Men star recently met Parton at her Tennessee themepark DollyWood, and told her she'd be naming one of her babies, due next year, after the singer.

Romijn tells American magazine In Touch, "I have been a Dolly fan all of my life. She.s a wonderful woman. I really connect with her music. I can.t think of a better role model for my children.

"She has this great, sweet personality but she.s also strong and wise..

The actress reveals Parton was thrilled by the tribute: "She was honoured..

Warner Bros., DC Comics Look to the Future of Superman and Batman

20 August 2008 12:46 AM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

When it comes to comic book supremacy at the box office, it's still pretty clear that Marvel has done a better job manufacturing hits than has its rival, DC Comics. Even with the towering success of The Dark Knight, there have only been four DC films to ever gross over $200 million in the U.S., and two of those feature Batman and the Joker. Marvel, on the other hand, has four franchises that have posted a total of seven $200 million flicks since 1997, in the form of Spider-Man, X-Men, Men in Black, and Iron Man.

There has been some question for a while about what DC Comics will do moving forward; Superman Returns was not what everyone thought it could be, and that franchise may now be in for another retooling. Anne Thompson at Variety says that Warner Bros., which has enjoyed all of this Batman success, may want to similarly

'Wolverine' in Between Power Struggle

19 August 2008 9:27 PM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

Words are "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" has been put in between the power struggle of director Gavin Hood and the 20th Century Fox's co-chairman and CEO Tom Rothman. Allegedly, the two have different things in mind over the tone of the "X-Men" spin-off sparking further speculation that the tug-of-war for creativity is going on.

The alleged conflict is said to be resolving around whether the movie should go dark, somber and gritty like what Hood is imagining or it should take Rothman's idea of a brighter and lighter mood to gather more audience. On this creative differences, a source told Hollywood Elsewhere that Hood had built up a somber set, but when he was away from the set, Rothman had ordered to repaint the set from the top to bottom to make it less murky.

What effect this suggested power struggle will bring to "Wolverine" has yet to be uncovered. In fact,

Ride of the ‘Valkyrie’ Release Dates

14 August 2008 11:27 PM, PDT | From MovieBlog.Ugo.com | See recent Ugo MovieBlog news

Aint It Cool News reports that MGM plans on releasing Valkyrie this December. The Tom Cruise starrer, in a plot to assassinate Hitler is unfurled during the height of WWII, was once set for release on October 3rd and then moved to President’s Day in February ‘09. While no specific release date is listed, AICN claims that, due to the strength of their recent test screenings, MGM believes the film has the chops to play in during the prestigious Holiday season.  While early trailers generated much scoffing in internetland, I’m hoping Cruise’s over-the-top performance in Tropic Thunder will quiet down some of the Cruise-Cynics out there and generate the kind of anticipation a new film from X-Men, Usual Suspects and Supes director Bryan Singer deserves.

“Darkness” stars Gibson as a homicide detective who discovers his daughter’s (Novakovic) secret life after she’s murdered on the steps of his house. De Niro plays an operative sent to clean up any kind of evidence.

As for Huston, he stars as a businessman, while Roberts takes over the role of the daughter’s boyfriend.

Columbia goes for a ‘Maximum Ride’

8 August 2008 10:23 AM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

Columbia Pictures is all set and ready to develop a big-screen franchise based on James Patterson’s best-selling novel series “Maximum Ride,” according to Variety.

The story focuses on six kids who underwent genetic modification to be 98 percent human and 2 percent bird. After escaping from the laboratories they’re held at, the children are pursued by a gang of werewolves sent to track them down.

Don Payne, screenwriter of “My Super Ex-Girlfriend” and “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer,” is writing the script.

Producer Avi Arad thinks “Maximum Ride” would make a good big-screen franchise. "The ‘Maximum Ride’ books use man-made mutation as a metaphor of humans trying to take advantage of human frailty and interfere with nature," he told Variety.

I guess Arad knows what he’s talking about. After all, he’s a big-time Hollywood producer who worked on films such as “Spider-Man,” “X-Men” and “Iron Man.

Smart Alec Takes On Justice System

Alec Baldwin, of whom you may have heard and heard and heard - especially when he's talking about co-parenting the daughter Ireland he had with ex-wife Kim Basinger - you're about to hear from some more. You maybe know he's written a book about his eternal forever unending never-to-be-over fight with his divorced missus. As steamy and passionate as their early days, that's how steamy and anguished are their last years. Anyway, St. Martin's publishes this Sept. 23.

Comic Con Trailer for 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'

29 July 2008 8:23 AM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

I hold the minority opinion that X-Men is better than X2. I understand why: I'm a sucker for origin stories. Little did I know then that X-Men is only an origin story up to a point.

Obviously, having grown up with the Marvel comic books, I knew that there was more to the story to be told, but the X-Men trilogy was unique at the time because it had the ensemble of heroes. However, it became clear that one hero stood out from the rest, and now he's getting another origin story, pre-x-Men, meaning Wolverine now has two backstories.

Hugh Jackman returns and he's joined by a pack of really talented actors including Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston, and Ryan Reynolds. Plus, the Comic Con trailer (heavily bootlegged; we'll get the crisp and clean version later) does more than most teasers. There's plenty of action, plenty of setup, and plenty of Logan.

Jackman Thrills X-men Fans With Wolverine Teaser

25 July 2008 10:40 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Movie star Hugh Jackman thrilled comic book fans at Comic-Con in San Diego, California on Thursday - by turning out to thank them for his career.

The Aussie actor was a last minute addition to the convention when he showed up to introduce the first trailer footage from his X-Men spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

After receiving a standing ovation from X-Men fanatics, a beaming Jackman said he marked the date for Comic-Con in his diary so he could personally thank fans for their support.

He said, "Without these guys, there would be no Wolverine, and I would probably be in a gas station serving gas.

"These guys are the most loyal, hardcore, supportive fans out there, so there was no way I was going to miss it."

Jackman, who plays the hairy X-Men mutant, revealed the teaser footage he previewed had literally just come off the reel, explaining the much-anticipated new film had just been completed.

Comic-Con ‘08: Fox Panel

24 July 2008 12:16 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

This post will be updated continuously during the panel.

For the Fox panel Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connolly and director Scott Derrickson are on hand to talk about The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Derrickson directed the most excellent Emily Rose. He touched on the concerns over remaking a classic film and how much he enjoys and respects the original. He thinks it’s a good idea to revisit the concept using modern day issues.

They will be showing a few clips.

The scene was an extended version of the interrogation shown in the trailer. This version of Klaatu is not docile and non-violent - in the scene he takes over the interrogator, delivering an electrical shock and controls his mind in order to get info so he can escape.

Keanu stated that his take on the role was to be an objective observer as the alien.

Derrickson says that the

According to Empire Online, McKellen is pretty excited about traveling back to Middle Earth. At a recent screening of “The Dark Knight,” the “X-Men” actor said he will be a part of “The Hobbit” although he hasn’t signed a contract yet.
