'Avatar' Live Streaming Q&A With James Cameron, Sam Worthington And Zoe Saldana This Thursday

7 hours ago | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

I don't know about y'all, but December 18 on my calendar is marked in red pen. Do you really have to ask why? On that day, after more than a decade, James Cameron will finally pick up another director's credit when "Avatar" hits theaters. Let's look at the stats. Cameron directed "Aliens," one of the finest sequels ever made. He also masterminded the "Terminator" franchise, which is still alive and (mostly) vital. And his last gig as a feature director, "Titanic," still holds the record as the top-grossing domestic release of all time. So yeah... "Avatar" is kind of a big deal.

You won't have to wait until December 18 for a delicious taste of "Avatar" however. A fix is coming this Thursday, exclusively on MTV.com. At 3pm Est, Movies managing editor Josh Horowitz will moderate a 30-minute Q&A session featuring Cameron along with "Avatar" stars Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana. »

Cameron's Love For Lewis

11 hours ago | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood moviemaker James Cameron was so pleased with British singer Leona Lewis' song for his film Avatar, he phoned to thank her in person.

Lewis' track I See You features in the upcoming sci-fi movie, starring Sigourney Weaver and Sam Worthington, and the Titanic director was so impressed with the recording he contacted the Bleeding Love hitmaker straight away.

She says, "I only saw a half-hour clip of the film. It's not finished yet, and it's insane, awesome. I heard the song - great lyrics, very, very epic. So I went in and I did it. And then they played it to James and he phoned me up and said, 'Oh, my God. I love you!' He's so cool. I had this perception that he was going to be totally untouchable and unreachable. But he's just like your nice uncle. He's lovely."

It's not the only movie song Lewis has recorded this year - she's also proud of her single Happy, which is used in Oprah Winfrey's Precious: "I'm just so proud of it cos I wrote it, and to be associated with a film like Precious, which is about trying to overcome troubles and trials in your life. I'm glad that someone got that message." »

James Cameron's Avatar for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and PC | Game review

12 hours ago | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Xbox 360/PS3/Wii/PC; £39.99; cert 16+; Ubisoft

James Cameron himself has emphasised the closeness between his first post-Titanic blockbuster and the accompanying game, pinpointing sharing of computer-generated assets and the game's role in fleshing out Avatar's back-story.

This raised hopes that Avatar (the game) could strike a blow against the poor esteem in which games-of-films are held. The reality, although not without merit, is ultimately faintly disappointing. Avatar is a third-person shooter with some clever touches, most notably a storyline which branches at a crucial point, early in proceedings, letting you choose whether to play as the indigenous Na'vi or the Us military-style Rda. This really lets you immerse yourself in the Avatar universe, experiencing the struggle between the two sides at first hand. Graphically, it is hugely impressive, and the planet, with its lush, alien flora and fauna, is rendered with incredible attention to detail. The difference between »

Efron Upset About DiCaprio Quote

30 November 2009 5:36 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Zac Efron has publicly apologised to Leonardo DiCaprio after suggesting the Titanic star once advised him not to take heroin during an interview.

In a new interview with U.K. newspaper The Times, the High School Musical star joked about advice his mentor gave him - and now he's regretting what he said.

Efron told the Times reporter that DiCaprio once offered, "There's only one way you can mess this all up. Just do heroin."

But the movie star said nothing of the sort to Efron - and now the younger actor is feeling pretty stupid.

He tells U.S. news show Access Hollywood, "I can't believe I just did that to him. It was a joke, it was meant completely in sarcasm, but it came across so differently in print. I was devastated.

"I tried to call Leo and say, 'Dude, I'm so sorry, that's not at all what I meant to say.' It was the worst feeling in the world."

But Efron isn't taking back the glowing comments he made about DiCaprio to the Times. He said, "He is the best barometer for me. It's amazing to see actors who have been able to sustain this for so long and keep positive, still focused on the work, still trying to make their best film." »

James Cameron's Avatar vs Titanic

30 November 2009 7:24 AM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

December 17 sees the release of James Cameron's new sci-fi adventure Avatar, the first live-action blockbuster to be shot entirely in 3D.

It's also Cameron's first movie since 1997's Titanic, which won a record-breaking 11 Oscars and took $1.8billion worldwide to become the highest-grossing film of all time.

As the most expensive film ever made at the time, Titanic was seen as a huge gamble and Cameron reportedly expected it to lose at least $100million.

The filmmaker said: "The expectations people have of me because of Titanic are both a blessing and a curse.

"Audiences are already asking, 'Ok, what's he going to show us this time?' But the upside is that I can go out and raise money to do something extraordinary.'"

So how do Titanic and Avatar stack up against each other? In this fascinating comparison, we look at the numbers behind both projects.

Paranormal Activity (15)

(Oren Peli, 2007, Us) Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat, Mark Fredrichs. 86 mins

This movie's paranormal box-office activity in the Us has raised expectations sky high, but it sets out to do one thing – scare the pants off you – and does that horribly well. Tapping into our primal fear of things going bump in the night, especially while we're asleep, it gives you the shivers with little more than a grainy fixed-camera shot of a bedroom, as a regular guy tries to get to the bottom of his girlfriend's alleged haunting by trying to video their nocturnal disturbances. There's a certain amount of audience investment required. If you go in determined not to be scared, you probably won't be, but if that's the case, why buy a ticket in the first place?

Movie of Susan Boyle's life should star Andie MacDowell and Pierce Brosnan (IrishCentral)

Susan Boyle's brother Gerry has said he believes a movie of her life will be made and that he'd like Kathy Bates to play the Scottish star. Gerry told RadarOnline.com that he would not be "surprised in the least if there was a film made" of his sister's life, adding he would "personally like to see Kathy Bates play my sister." if she wasn't available Gerry would like British actress Brenda Blethyn to play the role. The story comes amid persistent reports that "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell will be making a film about the 48-year-old Scottish singer. Can't say I agree. At 61 Kathy Bates would be 13 years older than Susan Boyle and is unfortunately well past her prime. Since playing Molly Brown in the Titanic movie she has hardly figured in Hollywood. I'm afraid Gerry Boyle is doing his sister no favors here How about Andi MacDowell? The »

Leonardo DiCaprio back with Bar?

Leonardo DiCaprio is rumoured to have rekindled his relationship with Bar Refaeli. A source told the New York Post newspaper: "They stayed in their own villa. They were shacked up together all weekend." Leonardo and Bar split in June after having an on/off relationship for months. It was believed Bar - who first started dating Leonardo in 2006 - wanted the romance to be more serious, prompting the 'Titanic' actor to call time on their relationship. Since their split, Leonardo has been linked to Pussycat Dolls star Ashley Roberts, Cameron Diaz and Russian Sports Illustrated model Anne Vyalitsyna, while Bar has been seen with Israeli gambling tycoon Teddy Sagi and Brazilian playboy Ricardo Mansur.
