Movie star Will Smith struggled to woo women before meeting wife Jada - his confidence took a beating after a gorgeous classmate broke his heart at school.
The Men In Black star admits that, despite his confident demeanour, he felt uneasy with women ever since he was snubbed by his boyhood crush while growing up in Pennsylvania.
He tells Pride magazine, "I have had only five girlfriends in my entire life. I needed to know the chick a long time before I even said anything. The problem was, I could never put myself out there. At school, I was madly in love with this girl. Her name was Charlene Brown. During a school assembly, I caught her eye, and to this day I do not know why, but I screamed out, 'Hey Charlene, how are you feeling?' And over 1,000 students' heads I heard her shout back, 'Too good for you!'
"From that moment, I never approached or said a word to a girl unless I was absolutely certain that she liked me. You never forget. Even with the wife, I make sure she is in the mood before I approach. Charlene never leaves your head." »

It's the mid-week report of the good, bad and you-know-what-the-what here, as we compile the movie news from the past week and a half. Yes, you'll have more at the end of the week—but for now, let us all cringe together as we see stomach news of the 2012 motion sickness experience, an Mib without Will Smith, and the audacity of some people to shoot a barely visible topless scene and hype it up like it was Basic Instinct 3.
The Good
• For years, there have been several attempts to do a sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, none of them ever came close to moving ahead. Speaking to MTV last week, director Robert Zemeckis set the record straight: that this time he is personally involved and really excited to do the sequel, and that he has commissioned original scribes Jeffrey Price and Peter Seaman to write the screenplay. Let's hope »

The rights for the Terminator franchise are headed for an auction as the Halcyon Company who owns them files for Chapter 11.
I hinted this would happen last month, but now Halcyon is serious about unloading its largest asset by January 2010. The company purchased the rights in 2007 for $25-30 million before churning out a sequel that made $380 million worldwide. An exec with Fti Capital Advisers claims the property is worth $60-70 million now. Maybe those suits didn’t see Terminator Salvation.
Sony is definitely interested, especially considering their two biggest franchises are Men in Black and Spider-Man, both of which are already headed for a third and fourth. Summit Entertainment is also considering it, what with all the Twilight money they have to throw around these days. Plus the rest of the major studios considering the potential.
The winner would get the whole Terminator bundle: future movies, the “Sarah Connor Chronicles »

Brought to you by: Candy and Whiskey-flavored Vomit - If you did Halloween correctly, you know what I'm talking about. This week, on a very special episode of Reject Radio, with my interest in horror films waning, we call upon the epic triumvirate of Peter Sciretta from a tiny horror film blog called /film and film producer Aaron Morgan to discuss the finer things in life. Filet Mignon. Fancy hairdos. Anarchy. Despite Aaron's constant need to explore the visual limits of radio and Peter's constant need to derail discussions that don't deal with Pump Up the Volume, we manage to review This Is It and Gentlemen Broncos. It was announced last week that "Men in Black 3" has been green lit by Columbia Pictures. Reportedly Barry Sonnenfeld, director of the first two "Mib" films will be at the helm once again, and Etan Cohen, who wrote "Tropic Thunder," is already working on the script. The big grey area...and this is a Big grey area...is if Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will be back in "Black." Clearly, without them, the show can't go on. But to us, there in only one burning question. Will Frank the pug suit up again? Wouldn't be the same without him. »

Bobbie Weiner, Aka Bloody Mary, is an FX artist with her own line of specialty makeup for literally any kind of transformation. If you're wondering where you might have seen her work, try the Oscar-nominated romace-catastrophe flick Titanic; she was the special effects make-up artist who transformed hundreds of actors into blue-lipped, icicle covered corpses. She also was in charge of the makeup for the horror films Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings and Voodoo.
Bobbie's got a whole lineup of her own FX supplies and original makeup; scary stuff, of course, but also any kind of makeup anyone might need. And you can read the comic she created, Tales of Bloody Mary, in any comic book store. Bobbie shares her recent work with Pretty/Scary's staffer Andrew Shearer...
Have you, or do you ever encounter situations where an individual is clearly put off by what you do?

Man, it seems like ages since the "Men in Black" films were top grossing hits and it really has been years since "Men in Black II" hit theaters. While there's been talk over the years of reviving the franchise, no progress was ever made...until now. According to reports, Columbia Pictures has set "Tropic Thunder" scribe, Ethan Cohen, to write the third installment in the series. At the moment, there are no deals in place for the franchise's stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, however, the film won't likely go forward without the duo's involvement. After all, it wouldn't be "Men in Black" without the original 'men in black'. No production date is known at this time either, but we'll keep you posted.

Back in April we reported on news from the Sony ShoWest presentation that the studio was developing a script for a third Men in Black movie, something which built on the rumors from over a year ago that franchise stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones were interested in suiting up for some alien escapades once more. Fast forward to now and an update has come out that Men In Black 3 has found its writer in the form of Tropic Thunder screenwriter, Etan Cohen (not to be confused with one half of the famous Coen brothers, Ethan).
Variety is reporting that Columbia Pictures (which Sony owns) has tapped Cohen to pen the script, but beyond that no deals have been made for either Smith or Jones to reprise their roles. Although I’d be very surprised if the studio didn’t have talks going on with the two stars »

If you were one of the people clamoring for more of the Men in Black franchise after the second installment ended, then this article is for you. Why? Well, it seems the studio responsible for the Men in Black movies is also interested in more of them and so, has decided to make at least one more.
The studio has enlisted Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen to pen the script for Men in Black 3 but that’s about as far as things have gone. No deals for franchise stars Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones are in place as yet though, according to the trade, its unlikely that the film would move forward without them.
Sorry to all you Mib fans out there but to me this seems like a longshot. The studio may have a chance at getting Tommy Lee Jones to reprise his role, although I think that »

I don't think this is a real surprise, right? Considering franchise after franchise is being revived or rebooted or whatever right now, it would look weird if we didn't hear back from the "Men in Black."
As Variety reports, Columbia Pictures is definitely moving ahead with "Men in Black 3," and the studio has hired Etan Cohen to write the script for the third installment in the popular (and funny) sci-fi series.
Cohen co-wrote Ben Stiller's hilarious war comedy "Tropic Thunder." His recent credits also include "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa." He is also working on a "Sherlock Holmes" comedy and "Candy Land." »

As we've previously discussed, Justin Theroux's career has taken [1] off [2] after writing Tropic Thunder, and the film's other screenwriter Etan Cohen also seems to be similarly in demand. We heard earlier this year that Men in Black 3 was definitely in development [3], but now according to Variety [4], Columbia Pictures have taken the first step toward making it a reality by hiring Cohen to pen the script. Etan Cohen is a former Mike Judge collaborator, having written for Beavis & Butthead and King of the Hill, in addition to co-writing the screenplay for Judge's Idiocracy. He was also working on the currently shelved Will Ferrell/Sacha Baron Cohen Sherlock Holmes comedy, and the upcoming Candy Land board game movie. So, is this a good thing? And will Cohen be able to come up with a script that is strong enough to convince Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones to sign on for Mib 3? Let's hope so, »

No super-successful comedy series can stay away for long. Back in April, ShoWest brought news that the aliens were coming back for Men in Black 3. There was no word on which stars would return, or anything other than the faintest murmurings of a plan, but now things are coming together. THR's Risky Biz Blog reports that Etan Cohen, the scribe behind Tropic Thunder, will pen the script while director of the first two, Barry Sonnenfeld, returns for the third bout.
With a script and director slotted into place, naturally, the next question revolves around Will Smith. As of now, the actor has no solid plans to return, but buzz says he is interested. As for Tommy Lee Jones -- his involvement is "uncertain." Smith has nothing pressing right now, so he's wide open (save from helping along his son's blossoming career), and Jones has only got two in-development features in his future. »

Despite having no confirmation that either Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones will return for another sequel, Columbia Pictures is pushing forward with Men in Black 3. Variety reports that its studio has hired Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) to write the script.
THR reports that Barry Sonnenfeld, who directed both Men in Black movies, will come back for the third and that Smith is "interested" in possibly returning as well.
The pressure's on Cohen now, who will need to write a script good enough to convince Smith, and hopefully Jones as well, to return to the franchise. Sonnenfeld just needs to make a better movie than Men in Black 2 ... or at least his last effort, the dreadful Rv.

Agent J and Agent K could soon be back on the beat. Sony Pictures is beginning to assemble the pieces for Men in Black 3, per the Hollywood Reporter, having already lined up director Barry Sonnenfeld and screenwriter Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) to dream up a close-encounter scenario reuniting franchise stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. The original Men in Black (1997) was a critical and commercial hit, grossing $589 million worldwide and spawning a 2002 sequel that tallied $441 million. If everything stays on target, Men in Black 3 will start shooting in 2010. »
