  • Continuity: When Tom Booker is teaching Grace MacLean to drive his truck, they open the doors to get in, and a cattle prod is sitting on the rear window gun rack. In the next shot the cattle prod has disappeared.

  • Continuity: The time displayed on Annie's watch when she says goodbye to Tom.

  • Continuity: In some scenes, the horse Tom is trying to help has just a little white star on its forehead, in others it has a white blaze which covers most of the face.

  • Continuity: When Booker first goes to see the horse at the hotel and it runs out of the barn it has a big white blaze that covers most of the face, but in subsequent shots it has only a small star on the forehead.

  • Continuity: When Tom is teaching Grace to drive his truck, there is a roll of wire in the back of the truck. When she punches the accelerator, the wire wobbles. In the next shot, the wire is gone. When they reach their destination in the field, the wire is in the back of the truck again.

  • Continuity: Gulliver's protective bandaging changes from red to white (when he rears up). The bandages disappear when he breaks his ankle and slides down the bank but are present in the next shot.

  • Continuity: The black horse, Gulliver, is seen stumbling and falling to his knees. In the next continious shot, he is back on his feet, although we didnt see him rise.

  • Continuity: Briefly, we see the legs of Pilgrim sliding down the bank ahead of the other horse but it is the other horse who reaches the road first. Also Pilgrim alternates between standing and lying as he slides down the bank.

  • Plot holes: Robert arrives at the ranch in a rental car, but needs a ride back to the airport.

  • Continuity: When Tom goes the motel to see the horse, his hat changes styles between shots.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Pilgrim is shown rearing up at the semi, a lunge whip can be seen in the shot flashing by his head.

  • Continuity: When Tom is working on the horse outdoors, close-ups show a rope halter while wider shots show the horse wearing leather.

  • Crew or equipment visible: As Pilgrim rears up when Liz the vet approaches him in the tunnel, a whip is briefly seen in the lower right hand corner.

  • Revealing mistakes: Booker is in the corral alone trying to "hook on" with Pilgrim. Just before he squats to remove the lasso from Pilgrim if you look under the horses neck you can see the lower half of a man dressed exactly the same as Booker.

  • Continuity: When Grace first wakes up in the hospital there is a close-up of her face and a cloth or bandage can be seen on her forehead. On the revealing shot, there is nothing there and Annie is seen grabbing a cool cloth and placing it on Grace's forehead.

  • Continuity: When Tom is sitting in the tall grass after being dunked in the creek, his shirt is dry, but later the shirt is wet again.

  • Errors in geography: In an early scene, a phone call is placed from Manhattan to the suburbs. The audible touch-tone sequence is seven digits. Since the NYC metro area has many area codes, ten-digit dialing is mandatory there.

  • Factual errors: When the girls go riding, at the start of the film, it is cold enough to snow yet their breath is not visible.

  • Continuity: When Grace is watching the show jumping, the commentator says "Pilgrim moves with absolute confidence at the command of Ms. McLean." This makes it clear that it is Grace and Pilgrim jumping. However, the Pilgrim on the TV is a bay with a white blaze. The Pilgrim throughout the film is chestnut with a small white star.

  • Continuity: When Gulliver falls, it is clear that he damages his fetlock (ankle) badly. Once he is on the road his fetlock seems to be fine.

  • Continuity: There is inconsistency with the mud covering Pilgrim throughout the movie. Even though he has been almost submerged in water on the ranch at least twice, the mud covering him is present, then it disappears, and is back again, as if the horse never was exposed to any water at all.

  • Continuity: In the scene where Anne and Tom first ride the horses together, Anne's hat varies from being on her head (with the obvious stunt double) to not on her head when they showed the closeups of her face. At the speed of the gallop, it is unlikely to be explained by her constantly putting it back on and in the final still of that scene, her hat is on again, and the hat strap is clearly in place to prevent the hat from falling back.

  • Factual errors: Although the opening scenes are set in winter, Pilgrim has a light summer coat which is impossible at that time of year. In reality the scenes were filmed in May.
