This is a simple movie about friendship and trust, and it certainly proves that the only person you can really rely on is yourself. We should all be aware of what our closest family and friends are up to, especially if their actions can lead to life-changing situations.
My Very Best Friend is more of a soapy thriller than most, with a simple script and adequate enough performances, but it is certainly not one of Jaclyn Smith's stronger tele-films. It doesn't have the subtlety or vibrance of most of her other work, and it fails to venture out into more complex dialogue. My Very Best Friend is definitely not in the same league for Jaclyn as the excellent Rage of Angels or Windmills of the Gods, but more in line of your typical melodrama. Neverthelss, Jaclyn sure looks great and is a delight to watch (as always).
Jaclyn's reign as the 'Queen of TV movies' was certainly not dented with the making of this film, and fans will in no doubt enjoy what My Very Best Friend has to offer. Good enough to pass the time. 5/10
