Having welcomed a healthy daughter in 2006 — Margaret ‘Maggie’ Heather, 3 — actress Kellie Martin is ever cognizant of all she has to be grateful for.
“I had no trouble and no complications, and it’s still difficult to be a parent … It’s still difficult to be a new mom,” the 34-year-old former ER star notes to Celebrity Baby Blog at the March of Dimes‘ Fourth Annual Celebration of Babies.
“The idea that people have babies who are born with complications and issues or really, really low birth weights, that’s so much more difficult. I’m right here to support that. »

Kathy Griffin may not love Lindsay Lohan, but she has celebrated lesbians like Melissa Etheridge and Rosie O'Donnell on her successful show, My Life on the D-List. And then, of course, there was the "kiss" she shared with Aubrey O'Day on last year's Bravo's A-List Awards.
And last week, she told Joy Behar she'd vote Suze Orman for president.
Now, she'll play a lesbian activist on a winter episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
TVGuide.com is reporting that Kathy is set to appear on Feb. 10, which was revealed via the show's producer, Neal Baer, on his Twitter.
Although most people know Griffin for her stand-up and comedic roles, she has played more serious parts (small and large) in shows like ER, The X-Files, Strong Medicine and Privileged.
We don't know much else yet, including what exactly Kathy's character is an activist for and how close she gets with Detective Benson, »

For its final season, Lost is bringing back a number of key characters.
But it's also introducing a handful of new ones. Who will William Atherton portray on the series, for example? We have no idea. But the actor will be featured on a number of episodes.
The same can now be said for Sheila Kelley, as Michael Ausiello confirms she's nabbed a recurring role on Lost.
The actress - who has appeared on episodes of ER and The Sopranos, but is best known for her three-year arc as Gwen Taylor on L.A. Law - will take on the character of Kendall.
Previous casting notices described her as an "intellectual beauty with a sharp edge to her wit who is caught committing corporate espionage and has to lie her way out."
Any thoughts on how she might play into the larger Lost picture? When we hear "corporate espionage," it's hard »

As reported by Variety, ER's Goran Visnjic will join Ewan McGregor, Mélanie Laurent and Christopher Plummer in Mike Mills' Beginners, described as an "indie drama" for Olympus Pictures and Parts and Labor. Seriously? Indie drama? That.s it? That.s never it with the power of Google at your fingertips. Apparently, someone over at Movieline has the script and posted a brief synopsis. .McGregor plays a young man rocked by two announcements from his elderly father (Plummer) . one, that he has terminal cancer, and two, that he.s coming out of the closet.. Good enough for me! Now that that.s out of the way, back to Visnjic. Who can argue with seeing the tall, dark and handsome Dr. Kovac on the big screen? Perhaps he.s even playing Plummer.s character.s oncologist. Playing a doctor on TV served him well, why not play one in a movie? »

For the most part, medical dramas tend to come and go pretty regularly on network TV. Some stick around and have a pretty successful run, such as E.R. or Chicago Hope, and some are long gone before you can even remember the show’s name, like Heartland starring Treat Williams. Thankfully, Fox’s House falls under the former category.
Now in it’s sixth season, House is picking up steam like never before, and we’ve got some brand new clips from tonight’s episode, “Known Unknowns.” In the episode, House must deal with the perils of the office while away at a medical conference, while Foreman (Omar Epps) treats a returning patient.
In the first clip, the sardonic Hugh Laurie as House discusses his distaste for the returning trend of the 1980s. In the second, Foreman checks out a former patient who goes through some hallucinations that could prove deadly. »

Here's a bit of casting news to start the day. Ray Winstone has jumped onto Red Snow, a "serial killer thriller" in which Winstone will be "an ex-sas officer tracking down his missing daughter in the snow forests of a remote town in north Canada." Script and direction are by Stuart St. Paul based on the true story of a killer that targeted Alaskan towns in the '80s. You don't know St. Paul's name, but you know his work; he's been a stunt guy for over 30 years with credits including Aliens, some of the Roger Moore Bond films and the recent Red Riding productions. [THR] After the break, news for Goran Visnjic and Gwyneth Paltrow. ER's Goran Visnjic has joined Beginners, an indie that has already attracted a significant cast: Ewan McGregor, Melanie Laurent (Shosanna from Inglourious Basterds) and Christopher Plummer are in this one. With the doors of ER’s County General Hospital now forever closed, poor old Goran Visnjic – who played dishy doc Dr. Luka Kovac – has had to find a new home. And it looks like he’s decided to give the big screen one last try by signing on to join Ewan McGregor, Christopher Plummer and Inglourious Basterds star, Melanie Laurent, in Beginners.Mike Mills – the director of Thumbsucker, not to be confused with R.E.M.’s frizzy-haired bassist – is directing the indie movie, whose plot is being kept very firmly under wraps, from his own script. Filming has already begun in L.A.Visjnic, thus far, hasn’t exactly set the movie world alight. He’s had bad guy turns in the likes of Practical Magic and The Deep End, was the love interest in the risible Elektra, and impressed in Michael Winterbottom’s Welcome To Sarajevo. But, now »

Tennis ace Serena Williams is eyeing a move into acting when her sporting career ends.
The Wimbledon winner made a brief cameo in medical drama E.R. in 2005 but her character died in the show - and now she's looking for a more action-packed role.
Williams says, "I really enjoy acting. I like being in front of the camera. I think I should be an action star. I always wanted to die in acting and then I died (in E.R.) and I was miserable! I was like, 'I don't wanna die anymore', so my dying in acting career is over!
"Now I'm moving on to more action roles. I can do a real mean chop and a kick and I can jump high and run fast and cartwheel." »

Last night's Grey's Anatomy was all about three children - a prematurely born baby, a terminal 10-year-old, and a 15-year-old whose drug use landed her in the ER - in dire straits.
Much like last week, there was a seemingly impossible case on the table, and the emotional stakes were high. Unlike Derek Shepherd, however, Arizona Robbins did not save a life.
But because of the way she carried herself, she may have saved countless lives down the road. How? For a full guide, check out our recap of "Invest in Love." Now, some thoughts:
Before touching on Arizona's big storyline, we must touch on Justin Chambers shirtless. You wish, right ladies? Yup, Dr. Alex Karev was forced to lose his shirt to save a baby's life.
Babies thrive on skin-on-skin contact, especially under duress, and as if Alex whispering to a preemie, "you're not alone," wasn't enough to make us swoon ... him shirtless? »

Motherhood star Anthony Edwards is no stranger to marathons, having run the Chicago 26.2-miler three times since 1999. On Sunday he completed in his first New York City marathon, however, and crossing the finish line was momentous in more ways than one. Not only was it his first race in six years, the 47-year-old former ER actor and dad-of-four raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Shoe4Africa along the way — money that is earmarked for a pediatric teaching hospital in Kenya.

On the previous Flash Forward, we had the Halloween episode, which definitely gave most of us the creeps. Tonight we get "The Gift," so does this mean it's for Thanksgiving or an early Christmas? Whatever the case, there's going to be some hand handling on this installment, given how we discovered details on the Blue Hand Club last week.
"The Gift" will continue the investigation on the mysterious Blue Hand, as Mark (Joseph Fiennes) and his partner Demetri (John Cho) are joined by other agents. Gough (Lee Thompson Young) is back, along with M16 agent Fiona Banks. She'll be portrayed by ER's Alex Kingston, guest-starring in the episode.

Listen up all you disgruntled Southland fans, TNT is your new favorite network. The acclaimed police drama has risen from the ashes of cancellation and will be returning to television on a new network:
“TNT has picked up the critically acclaimed series “Southland,” closing a deal with Warner Bros. Television that will bring the drama from Emmy-winning producer John Wells (”ER,” “The West Wing”) to the network in January.
TNT has obtained exclusive rights to air all six episodes that have been shot for the second season, as well as the seven episodes from the series’ first season. “Southland” will air on TNT Tuesdays at 10 p.m. (Et/Pt), beginning with the first episode of the series on Jan. 12.”
This is great news for the series especially given the somewhat surprising cancellation by NBC before the show even returned for a second season. Honestly, they brought back Heroes but not Southland? »
