Cage Can't Wait To Work With Pen-pal Kilmer Again

8 hours ago | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Nicolas Cage is lining up a new movie with longtime pen-pal Val Kilmer after the two stars briefly teamed up on the set of Bad Lieutenant.

The Con Air star reveals he and Kilmer have been fans of each other's work for years - often writing to offer praise for a job well done in a movie.

And Cage was thrilled when he learned he'd be working with Kilmer in his new film - but they never got enough screen time together.

He tells WENN, "We used to correspond with one another. I used to write letters telling him I appreciated his work in Tombstone and then he would return the compliment with other things that I had done.

"I always felt that Val was, along with Robert Downey, Jr., something of a genius, so I had hoped we would work together. There wasn't enough for us to do together in this movie, so I'm looking forward to doing something else with him at some point." »

Chriqui and Kilmer Join War Film

28 October 2009 6:36 AM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Here’s a recipe for … well, I’m not sure what dish this will make, but it’ll certainly be interesting: Emmanuelle Chriqui, a recurring actor on Entourage, and Val Kilmer (Tombstone) have joined forces with director Renny Harlin for the leading roles in Georgia, Harlin’s new war film.

According to THR, the film centers around “an American journalist (Kilmer) and his cameraman caught in the crossfire of  covering last year’s military conflict between Russia and Georgia … [as well as] a Georgia native (Chriqui) and doctoral student who becomes entangled with them.”

While this certainly doesn’t represent Harlin’s average action fare, I’m not entirely convinced that the man has ever made a good film in his life. When the closest you come to a good film is the lackluster Die Hard 2 or the redeemably cheesy Deep Blue Sea, you know your track record is somewhat worse for the wear. »

The Ten Faces of Wyatt Earp - From Kevin Costner to Erroll Flynn

9 October 2009 9:01 PM, PDT | amctv.com - Future of Classic: Westerns | See recent amctv.com - Future of Classic: Westerns news »

Wyatt Earp was a jack of all trades: gambler, buffalo hunter, con man, prospector, and Hollywood film consultant. But it's as the fearless lawman who brought justice to Dodge City and made a last stand at Tombstone's O.K. Corral that he's best known. The historical facts might not stack up with the legend, but what's certain is that the man contained multitudes. So how can only one actor do him »

The Great Emancipator Set for the Silver Screen

16 September 2009 12:17 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Apart from Henry King’s “Wilson” and Oliver Stone’s “Nixon” and “W.”, it’s hard to recall very many notable films based on presidents, both living and former. It’s difficult to see why. As English Bob might have said in “Unforgiven”, no one is traumatized by the sight of a president, much less one seen on screen (Helen Mirren’s portrayal in “The Queen”, however, might have been apocryphal in retrospect had it not been so good). Now, in the spirit of “Tombstone” and “Wyatt Earp”, Variety reports that Steven Spielberg and Robert Redford are set to direct dueling Lincoln films. It seems strange to release both of them now, so close together, but Redford’s vision should prove to be quite different: “Lincoln as a subject is inexhaustible,” as Spielberg said. “The Conspirator”, as Redford’s version is called, will star James McAvoy and Robin Wright Penn »

Burn Notice Recap 3.5 “Signals and Codes”

9 July 2009 8:09 PM, PDT | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

Welcome back, my fellow burned spies and trigger happy ex-girlfriends.  Did you miss me?  I missed you!  This week, Michael and Sam sit in Mike’s car while they watch planes take off and land.  Wow, that sounds like a blast!  Michael’s voice-over complains about how all of his former confidants and handlers don’t take his calls anymore since he was burned.  They won’t even follow him on Twitter.  How sad.  The goal of all this flight watching is to track down an agent that can’t avoid him.  Sam and Mike, after an entertaining montage of stake out, finally track down a covert-ops supply plane.  They’ve been in that car for a while, and I bet they smell.

Back at his loft, hopefully after a shower, Michael is taking an exacto-knife to a fake ID of some kind when Fi storms in, dressed in a bikini and a negligee. »

Summer 2009 TV Preview

25 May 2009 7:28 PM, PDT | AfterEllen.com | See recent AfterEllen.com news »

Lesbian/bi visibility on primetime American television this summer is not much better than it is the rest of the year — which is to say, it's pretty slim pickings.

Among the shows premiering or returning in the next few weeks, there are a few with supporting lesbian/bi characters (Mental, The Closer); one with an out actress in a supporting role (Hawthorne); and a reality show featuring two out female contestants (Top Chef Master).

Here's a review of the pilot or first new episode(s) of all four series, and a short list of the premiere/air dates of other shows that may interest you.

Warning: some mild spoilers, but no major plot points revealed

Mental (Drama, Fox)

Dates: Tuesdays at 9pm Pst/Est, premiering May 26

Cast: Chris Vance (Prison Break), Annabella Sciorra (Queens Supreme, The L Word), Derek Webster (Stargate), Jacqueline McKenzie (4400), Marisa Ramirez (General Hospital), Nicholas Gonzalez (CSI: Miami »

Terrence Howard on Fighting

23 April 2009 10:42 AM, PDT | www.canmag.com | See recent CanMag news »

If Channing Tatum is the fighter in Fighting, then the only other name actor would have to be the corrupt A-hole, right? Terrence Howard is Harvey, the shady street hood who gets young Shawn into the world of street fighting, but the movie doesn.t play exactly the same notes you might expect.

Terrence Howard on Fighting

.He.s got a mean streak of morality running up his spine,. Howard said. .Remember Val Kilmer said, as Doc Holliday in Tombstone, .My hypocrisy only goes but so far.. Later on, he says, .My hypocrisy seems to have no bounds.. Harvey, his hypocrisy only went but so far. You can cheat somebody on the streets. He didn.t like fighting. He couldn.t take a person.s life, but he didn.t help people live. So he.s at that strange place between good and bad, »

A cheery Easter Monday welcome to you Boxwishers and it’s a bit quiet on the ol’ DVD front. Yes, it’s seriously slim pickings with the new home entertainment options after the bumper releases we’ve enjoyed recently like Quantum of Solace and Twilight. So what is on offer? Observe Five New 'Observe and Report' Clips

21 March 2009 4:19 PM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

Though it is intended to draw a completely different audience, it is nevertheless very difficult to discuss Observe and Report without at least mentioning Paul Blart: Mall Cop. The similarities are pretty striking, on the surface: Heavyset guy who lives with his mom and patrols a shopping mall everyday feels the unmistakable call of action when a woman he loves from afar finds herself in the center of a tumultuous situation that occurs on his watch.

Prior to Blart, when was the last time we saw a movie like that? I bring all of this up only because I think in most cases it's a tougher sell when you're the second movie - Wyatt Earp came after Tombstone, Ed TV followed The Truman Show, and Infamous came after Capote. Armageddon is an excpetion to that rule, but it usually works that way.

Observe and Report is a much darker film, »

Blu-ray Review: Appaloosa

18 January 2009 11:31 PM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

The western genre is a tricky one for feature films nowadays. They used to be a dime a dozen, but it seems they went out of style for good after Clint Eastwood made the superb Unforgiven in 1992 and has yet to return to the genre. Kevin Costner made the stinker of a film in Wyatt Earp in 1994 but then redeemed himself in 2003 with the under-appreciated and under seen Open Range. Even those that want to point to Tombstone have to remember it was released in 1993 and another great western in The Proposition has been virtually ignored. Hell, despite being set in space Serenity was a fantastic western in 2005 and spaceships couldn't even get audiences into the seats. Nope, to make a western is to be all alone on the range with a camera, some dirt and hopefully a story compelling enough to make your money back on home video. Appaloosa »
