Shortly after the first season premiered, it was determined that "Saved by the Bell: The New Class" (1993) was coming across as just a watered-down remake of the original "Saved by the Bell" (1989) series. In an effort to make it more of a stand alone series, the characters of Scott Erickson, Barton "Weasel" Wysell and Vicki Needleman were eliminated because they copied the original's respective characters of Zack Morris, Screech Powers and Jessie Spano too closely. The vacancies were recast with new characters of Bobby Wilson and Brian Keller while Sarah Lancaster's guest appearance as Rachel Meyers was expanded to a full-time starring role for season 2. Dustin Diamond's return as Screech Powers was also included for the series season 2 revampment not only due to the failure of the "Saved by the Bell: The College Years" (1993) series, but also to help bridge the gap between the two high school classes. more
Tommy 'D' De Luca:
Welcome to Bayside, kid.
Scott Erickson:
Well, you got me THIS time, D. Watch out, it's a looong way to graduation.
Tommy 'D' De Luca:
[Sarcastic reply] Ooooo, I'm trembling in my boots!

What in God's name was the use for this show? It was a poor man's version of the original. The original was starting to wear out its welcome, before it was timely removed, this junk should have went after the first season. Why would Screech come back, did he need money that bad? Was he so typecast that he could not get a job in acting anymore?
I woke up early one morning ca 1998, and I could not believe that this crap was still on, I guess Saturday morning programming aimed at the children-teen market does not have to be Sophisicated. I am supposing the show executives thought that all the old fans of the original series moved on and a younger generation needed their own Saved by the Bell. Crap!!!!!
