I read somewhere that two actors considered for Martin and Niles (presumably as back-ups if the producers' first choices were unavailable) were Robert Prosky and Peter MacNicol. Both had appeared on "Cheers" before. Peter MacNicol played a snooty hotel clerk.
But the wierd thing is, Robert Prosky played Rebecca's father on "Cheers". So if they'd cast him as Martin, he would have been the father of TWO "Cheers" characters! How would it have worked if they'd managed to get Kirstie Alley on for a guest spot on "Frasier"? Would there have been some line of Rebecca's saying how much Martin reminded her of her own father?
