- The consensus among my peers at the Toronto Film Festival was that the Jordan Scott's debut was lacking certain elements to make it a full-fledged thriller worth investing in, but after this trade news announcement, I checked up on the Variety review and I'm loving the cross section of films it mentions it its first pull quote calling it "a cross between "Picnic at Hanging Rock" and "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie," shot through with a nasty "Lord of the Flies" streak." IFC Films have picked up the rights to Cracks and are putting it out sometime next year. Written for the screen by Caroline Ip and Ben Court, based on the novel by Sheila Kohler, this is about a group of girls at a boarding school in England in the 1930s, the most elite clique of girls are the illustrious members of the school’s diving team. »

In a word, it’s gonna be intense. In even more words, it’s gonna be a hybrid of “Assault on Precinct 13″ and “Lord of the Flies”. Or at least that’s what the full synopsis for the movie is selling. Our main characters look to be Eva, a young woman, and her weakling of a boyfriend name Sam judging by the description below. Styd has your synopsis while Bloody-Disgusting scored the artwork from the movie, which is currently making the rounds to potential buyers at the American Film Market. Director Xavier Gens, best known within the genre for Frontiere(s), is following up his harrowing little horror film (Hitman doesn't count) with a hearty slice of post-apocalyptic nuttiness, and we have some art and the plot crunch for you.
Synopsis
Director Xavier Gens follows his $99 million grossing ‘Hitman’ with The Fallout - a high concept post-apocalyptic thriller that opens with pandemonium and a chaotic sprint towards the basement of a New York apartment building, just moments before the city outside is decimated…
When a cataclysmic explosion devastates New York, eight strangers take refuge in the basement of their apartment building, a converted fallout shelter designed by their paranoid superintendent Mickey. With just three connecting rooms it’s barely big enough, but with stockpiles of food and water, the group are at least safe from the horrors outside, and they settle in and attempt to fathom the catastrophe that has »

If you’ve been waiting anxiously to catch your first glimpse of repression, lust and Eva Green in an all-girls boarding school drama Cracks, wait no more. The first poster and trailer for the new film were released this week. While it looks gorgeous, the tagline certainly raises an eyebrow: “Innocence isn’t lost. It’s taken.” Uh-oh.
Eva stars as the popular, enigmatic Miss G, a teacher and diving coach at an elite English boarding school during the summer of 1934 who is adored by her students. Previous reports about the film has raised hopes a lesbian relationship, but the trailer suggests something more sinister.
The trailer brings to mind Picnic at Hanging Rock mixed with Loving Annabelle and a healthy dash of Heavenly Creatures and Lord of the Flies thrown in for good measure. So when Eva said that the story was “"little taboo” earlier, she really wasn’t kidding. »

French helmer Xavier Gens, who spilled buckets of blood in "Frontiere(S)", is set to direct "The Fallout" next for ContentFilm International. Plot details are scant at this time, however, the project is set against the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic New York and carries shades of "Assault On Precinct 13" and "Lord Of The Flies". The story was scripted by Karl Mueller who also penned "Shelter", a project ShockTillYouDrop.com last reported on in 2007. Ross Dinerstein, Darryn Welch and Tony Krantz (of the direct-to-dvd Raw Feed series and "Otis") will produce. Gens recently shepherded the upcoming zombie film "The Horde". Shooting begins on "The Fallout" early next year.... »

You won't be leaving the Vault and using V.A.T.S. to dispatch the irradiated menaces of the Capitol Wasteland with the guy who directed Hitman (starring the delectable Olga Kurlyenko, of course). But French filmmaker Xavier Gens is making something called The Fallout, a post-apocalyptic action-horror flick described as "a thriller that combines elements of Assault On Precinct 13 with 'Lord of the Flies' in a story of survival." Producer Ross Dinerstein says:... »

The wonderfully sick mind behind Frontière(s), Xavier Gens, is set to return to the genre (sort of) for The Fallout, a post-apocalyptic thriller set in a futuristic New York City. Unlike his adaptation of the Eidos video game Hitman, this one isn’t an adaptation of the long-running RPG series of the same name.
Screen Daily reports that producer Ross Dinerstein stated, "Xavier’s vision for this film is extraordinary. He brings a visual edge to this fascinating exploration of the human condition."
The film is a mixture of Assault on Precinct 13 and Lord of the Flies. "With a collective of ‘End of the World’ movies hitting the theatres presently, this film will undoubtedly stand out like a ravenous Pit Bull in a school playground… brace yourselves cause this film has a serious bite to it!” said producer Darryn Welch.

Screen Daily reports that Xavier Gens (pictured), the French director of the bloodfest Frontier(S) as well as the actioner Hitman, next takes the helm of Fallout. The project is described as “a thriller that combines elements of Assault On Precinct 13 with Lord Of The Flies in a story of survival.”
Scripted by Karl Mueller and Eron Sheean, who are also serving as co-producers, Fallout is set in and around an apartment-building-turned-shelter in a postapocalyptic New York City, but will lens in Eastern Europe beginning next February. ContentFilm International has just picked up worldwide sales rights, and Ross Dinerstein, Darryn Welch and the Raw Feed DVD series’ Tony Krantz are producing. “Xavier’s vision for this film is extraordinary,” Dinerstein tells the trade. “He brings a visual edge to this fascinating exploration of the human condition.” Adds Welch, “With a collective of ‘end of the world’ movies hitting the theaters presently, »

After previously directing Hitman and at one point being rumored to direct the new Conan movie, it looks like French filmmaker Xavier Gens' next project will actually be The Fallout, set to start shooting in February, 2010 in Eastern Europe (via ScreenDaily). The film, being produced and sold by ContentFilm, is set in a post-apocalyptic New York. Story details haven't been officially revealed yet, but it's being called "a thriller that combines elements of Assault on Precinct 13 with Lord of the Flies in a story of survival." From the mind of the guy who brought us Frontier(s), this project sounds like it'll be something very unique. "Xavier's vision for this film is extraordinary. He brings a visual edge to this fascinating exploration of the human condition." producer Ross Dinerstein said. Xavier Gens went from busting out of the horror film with Frontier(s) (yay!) to making Hitman (yeesh). The movie-making biz ain't easy, but at least Gens is getting back to where he belongs. ScreenDaily reports that Gens will be making the post-apocalyptic thriller The Fallout next February in Eastern Europe, which will naturally fill in for New York.
Written by Karl Mueller and Eron Sheean, The Fallout is described as "a thriller that combines elements of Assault on Precinct 13 with Lord of the Flies in a story of survival." So wait, everyone gets trapped in a police precinct but no one can talk unless they're holding the conch?
Say "post-apocalyptic" and we think "zombie." It's not unnatural to assume so, especially when producer Darryn Welch says something like this: "With a collective of "end of the world" movies hitting the theatres presently, this film will undoubtedly stand out »

Xavier Gens (”Hitman”) has agreed to direct the action thriller “The Fallout” and production starts February in Eastern Europe. ContentFilm International has taken worldwide sales rights to the film on the eve of Afm (American Film Market). The film is set in post-apocalyptic New York and it’s being billed as “a thriller that combines elements of Assault on Precinct 13 with Lord of the Flies in a story of survival.” More after the jump:
According to Screendaily, “The Fallout” will be produced by Ross Dinerstein (”The Killing Room”, “Powder Blue”), Darryn Welch (”Goal! The Dream Begins”, and Tony Krantz (”24″, “Mulholland Drive”) and it was written by Karl Mueller and Eron Sheean who will also co-produce.

The Story: "FreakAngels" by Warren Ellis (W) and Paul Duffield (A) - Avatar Press
What It's About: A group of super-powered misfits carve out their way in a flooded post-apocalyptic London that they helped destroy.
Personal issues and histories gradually complicate their situation as the story zooms out to show who and what lies beyond their urban fortress community of Whitechapel.
Why It Works: Post-apocalyptic landscapes have been all the rage for years now, but there has yet to be a definitive steampunk-styled future on the big screen that really combines ultra-imaginative prop design with a setting as bleak as "Children of Men" or "The Road." The story has the same underlying breed of mystery event that's behind "Heroes" with the young-adult rage issues that make the kids in "Lord of the Flies" or "Battle Royale" so vicious.
If crowds will flock to see vampire kids in "Twilight" and witch »

Screened at Granville 7, Vancouver International Film Festival on October 14, 2009
Director: Ondi Timoner
By Robert Shaer
I made a quick moment for Twitter minutes before the Vancouver International Film Festival screening of Ondi Timoner’s award winning documentary of lesser-known internet pioneer Josh Harris;
#Viff #WeLiveInPublic.
21 quick characters shared with those who follow my Twitter and FaceBook feeds to let them know where I was at that moment, regardless of their interest. The telltale reflection of smartphone screens on other faces in the audience suggested I wasn’t the only one taking a moment to broadcast with others what we were up to.
Described as ‘the greatest internet pioneer you’ve never heard of’, Josh Harris’ path through the 90’s, from .com millionaire to web-casting visionary to financial refugee, hiding in Ethiopia from Us creditors, is painted across Ondi Timoner’s film with great candor and remarkable fairness for Harris, »

If you are like me, you can track your love of monsters all the way back to one specific childhood incident: when somebody first read you Maurice Sendak's Where The Wild Things Are.
The story of Max, a wild child who travels to a remote island full of monsters and becomes their king, Wild Things is a brilliant fable. Where The Wild Things Are and A Confederacy Of Dunces were the two books I most dreaded seeing Hollywood adapt.
I needn't have worried. Spike Jonze's film plays like McSweeney's Where The Wild Things Are. It expands the book and is not afraid to be dark. Max(A great Max Records) now lives in the real world of parental divorce, loneliness and feelings of being powerless and alienated from his family.
When Max runs away and meets The Wild Things, they are the faithfully rendered monsters of the book. »

Spoilers ahead for the teaser trailer of Toy Story 3.
A wonderful attendee of the D23 Expo was able to quote Pixar guru John Lasseter on the state of Toy Story 3 in relation to the other entries in the franchise. Lasseter revealed that while there was always interest in making another sequel, the quality to be matched was a daunting task:
“When we were getting started on this project, a bunch of us – Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton, Jeff Pigeon, Lee Unkrich, myself and some others – went on retreat in Northern California. We went back to the cabin where we had broken the story for the original Toy Story. That place has good mojo.
But before we got started, we sat down and watched Toy Story 1 & 2. And then we got depressed, because we realized that those two are really good movies. And we then wondered how we were ever going to top them. »
