Two New Posters For Alice In Wonderland

8 hours ago | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

Two shiny new posters have been released for director Tim Burton’s surreal take on Disney’s Alice In Wonderland, starring Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway and Matt Lucas.

The posters (originally released on The Mad Hatter’s Facebook page) feature many of the film’s colourful cast and further cement the idea that this is a Wonderland the like of which has not been seen on the big screen before. Check them out in all their glory below, Alice in Wonderland steps through the looking glass on 5th March 2010 – don’t be late!

Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice) attempts to work his gothic magic over one of the best loved stories of all time… Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice In Wonderland’ and ‘Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There’, which first told the story of a young girl, who after following a rabbit down a hole, »

Badasses of Horror: Part Two

9 November 2009 6:30 AM, PST | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

See the first part of this article here.

Ellen Ripley (Alien/Aliens, 1979/86)

Warrant Officer Ellen Ripley is just hanging out on the intergalactic transport ship Nostromo, leading the often-dull life of a Space Teamster, when all of a sudden, out of nowhere, her idiot captain decides to land on the remote planet Lv-426 to investigate some stupid distress signal emanating from a crashed spaceship. Now, as we all know, responding to distress signals is one of the top five most insanely boneheaded tactical decisions any science-fiction/horror space traveler can possibly make, but this doesn’t stop Captain Numbnuts from ordering his crew to get their asses down there and dope out the spooky alien wreckage.

Of course, once they go down to investigate, some dumbass crewmember decides it would be totally hilarious to stick his face in one of the strange egglike things he finds in the smoldering wreckage of the derelict ship. »

Fun Finds: My Favorite Movie-Related Halloween Costume Goes To...

4 November 2009 2:47 PM, PST | Fandango | See recent Fandango news »

Now that it's been a few days since Halloween, some fun movie-related costumes have popped up online. In my travels, I've come across a pretty cool Iron Man costume, as well as everything from Michael Jackson (who took first place in Fandango's Halloween costume poll) to Edward Scissorhands. The movie Where the Wild Things Are seemed to have inspired tons of parents to dress up their kids as Max or, in some cases, even a Wild Thing.     My favorite movie-related Halloween costume so far, though, goes to an unknown dude who dressed up as a Na'vi from James Cameron's upcoming sci-fi flick Avatar. It's funny, too, because as big as Avatar is poised to become, I didn't see any homemade Halloween costumes related to that film at all this year, whereas there were tons of costumes...

Movies That Make Me Think of Halloween

30 October 2009 9:51 PM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Recycled Film Experience! I wrote some of this in advance -- years in advance in fact -- to free up time to enjoy this costume crazed holiday. I originally published this list in 2005, but I've tweaked it some. Plus, not all of you were around in 2005. Herewith, the top 12 movies that remind me of Halloween. It's a top ten list and it's not even Tuesday. I'm so generous.

12 The Batman franchise (1989-2008)

In 1997 I went out Halloween clubbing as the Uma version of Poison Ivy. Whenever you dress up as a movie character the year the movie comes out, you'll have competition. There was another Poison Ivy there but I buried her, I promise. I had the horns and all the details, see. It was the longest I ever spent getting ready for Halloween (which is saying something): glue guns, orange wigs, fake foliage, you name it. I don't try as hard anymore. »

An 'Eclipse' First Look And Last-Minute Halloween Costumes In Today's Twitter-Wood

30 October 2009 5:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

"Kick-Ass" actress Chloe Moretz was among those tweeting good thoughts to Nicolas Cage and his family following the death of his father August Coppola this week. A literature professor and the brother of director Francis Ford Coppola, he reportedly died following a heart attack on Tuesday.

In other tweets, David Slade slipped a fresh image into his Twitter feed of actor Xavier Samuel from "Eclipse," which he says is the first look at Samuel's character Riley in the film. A couple of "Twilight" actors tweeted last minute contemplations over their Halloween costumes, while Edgar Wright may be giving up altogether and Russell Brand decried jack-o-lanterns as symbols for the season. Check out what they all had to say after the jump. It's in the Twitter-Wood report for October 30, 2009.

tMF Featured Trailer: Alice in Wonderland (Extended)

- - - I have no idea if there is really something extended in the extended Alice in Wonderland trailer, but I'm a big fan of Tim Burton, and what better way to celebrate the coming Holloween than posting something that somehow relates to it? In this case, Burton has made some pretty amazing movies that's dark, spooky, scary and worth it - Sleepy Hollow, Beetle Juice and Sweeny Todd, to name a few.

His version of Alice in Wonderland is scheduled for a March 2010 release, which is 5 months away, but hey the trailer looks impossibly awesome! Plus, Mia Wasikowska - who plays Alice - is a young actress to watch. Watch the trailer after the jump!

Fun For Everyone Halloween Films – Part III!

5. Edward Scissorhands (1990): I would love to see how something like Edward Scissorhands would go over in today’s society. Clearly, if the school he’d be attending observed any of today’s weapon policies, he’d be expelled instantly and have at least 4 interviews on news programs and talk shows before the week was over about how the institution is “denying his fundamental right to express himself.” Edward Scissorhands reminds me a lot of many of the movies that came out in the late 80s, up until 1990. Lots of teen angst with a dash of fantasy – lots »

Weekend Box Office Prophet Game Results: October 23-25

27 October 2009 8:33 AM, PDT | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

Paranormal Activity ruffled the feathers of all players this past weekend by shrinking the box office returns of the competition causing all our predictions to aim way too high.

Saw VI failed to reach half the opening weekend box office total of its predecessor sequels while Amelia, Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant and Astro Boy flopped miserably. It was not a weekend to remember.

The Prophet managed to beat everyone else on Amelia and Where the Wild Things Are. With three wins, you guys pulled out a victory and top player Edward Scissorhands will receive a DVD or Blu-ray Disc prize.

Check back later today for the next round of the Weekend Box Office Prophet game. »

50 Influential Scream Queens: Part 1

27 October 2009 5:54 AM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Given man's unwavering fascination with woman, it's no surprise that the female star acts as the anchor to a dominant portion of horror pictures. I mean really, who wants to see a bare chested man tearin ass through the woods screaming at the top of his lungs while a bladed assailant nips at his heels? I don't - I know that much, although I'm certain there are plenty of men who would disagree (and that's okay with me, to each his own!). The simple fact remains however, women bring a unique appeal and certain sensual atmosphere to film that no man ever could. And it's not all about gratuitous T&A.

There's a comforting quality in the hands of the heroine; a fascinating maternal strength that, as a man I cannot genuinely relate to. I can however admire, and in many cases it's nearly impossible to not admire the lone »

What are Your Favorite Winter Holiday Themed Movies?

26 October 2009 2:39 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

I wasn't quite sure how to properly word the headline for this post considering I want to make sure you understand I am talking about the season pretty much running from Thanksgiving to Christmas, but I also want to make sure you know the film itself doesn't have to necessarily be about the holidays.

Take Die Hard for instance, it's set during Christmas time, but it isn't a Christmas film. However, it fits in with what I am looking for here. Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, Eyes Wide Shut, Fanny and Alexander, Batman Returns, Gremlins, The Thin Man and When Harry Met Sally are other examples. Hell, I would even say Rocky IV and Lethal Weapon count. As a matter of fact, I would say the non-Christmas, Christmas movies are the more interesting additions. How about The Shining or even Psycho?

Then, of course, I personally love films such as Love, »

Winona Ryder

24 October 2009 1:01 PM, PDT | Interview Magazine | See recent Interview Magazine news »

There was a time when Winona Ryder changed everything. She was like the new prom queen-the one who millions of brainy, brunette girls who'd long since disavowed their interest in prom queens had secretly been waiting for. (Some guys, too.) It was Heathers (1988), a groundbreaking, unsentimental (and very smart and funny) film about a pair of high school outcasts (Ryder and Christian Slater) who wind up taking out a handful of the most popular kids at school, that first earned Ryder favored-actress status amongst those of the Generation Formerly Known as X. That early Ryder image-the dark hair, the porcelain skin, the doe-like, knowing eyes, forever threatening to roll upward-very quickly became burned into peoples' brains. It's a singular, powerful image, and one that many directors have deployed in its variations to great effect, from Tim Burton (Beetlejuice, 1988, and Edward Scissorhands, 1990) to Francis Ford Coppola (Bram Stoker's Dracula, 1992) to Martin Scorsese (The Age of Innocence, »

Blu-Ray Review: Gaudy ‘Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ Lacks True Holiday Cheer

20 October 2009 2:57 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Just weeks before the opening weekend of Jim Carrey’s new “A Christmas Carol,” Universal has released a Blu-Ray + DVD combo pack of the nearly decade-old “Grinch” remake, featuring Carrey as the infamous Seussian Scrooge. The combination of Carrey’s star power and Theodor Geisel’s beloved source material assured the film’s massive box office success. But no matter how much dough it raked in, few family audiences actually seemed to like it. That’s because no one behind the camera had a clue about how to stretch this simple tale into a feature-length blockbuster.

Blu-Ray Rating: 2.0/5.0

The original “Dr. SeussHow The Grinch Stole Christmas” was a half-hour cartoon first broadcast in 1966, featuring masterful narration from Boris Karloff, exuberantly funny animation from Chuck Jones, and classic songs written by Seuss and unforgettably performed by Thurl Ravenscroft. It remains one of the finest holiday films of all time, »

Merchandise swag: Neon Edward Scissorhands ladies T-shirt

So, Halloween is just around the corner and yet you don’t fancy dressing up. It doesn’t matter how much your mates whinge at you to “join in”, or how excited they are about their own costumes, getting trussed up as Catwoman is not for you, thank you very much. And yet, you don’t want to be left out or seem like some old Grinch, what to do, what to do? Well, how’s about this T-shirt of Johnny Depp as Edward Scissorhands in the quirky fantasy film of the same name? It’s creepy and kooky enough to pack a Halloween punch, but won’t attract odd looks from strangers and, best of all, can be a part of your wardrobe all year long. Sounds like a cool compromise. »

Mirror/Mirror – “There Is a Place Like No Place on Earth”

11 October 2009 8:58 AM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

2009 and 2010 will see the release of two films by master visionary directors — Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus by Monty Python alum Terry Gilliam. In a world that’s full to the brim of remakes and reboots, unoriginal thought after unoriginal thought, you’d think we’d be happy to see some artistic ingenuity. And before you start: yes, I’m aware that Alice in Wonderland is in no way a “new” idea, but it’s been quite a while since it has been brought to life on screen effectively.

This got me thinking though, with the release of Alice in March and Parnassus this coming December, that here we have two directors whose stylistic flair is almost inseparable from their body of work. Each has had their share of blockbuster successes as well as flops. When they flop, they tend to flop hard. »
