The Bill star Alex Walkinshaw has revealed that he dreams of landing a part in EastEnders. Alex, who plays Sgt Dale Smith on the ITV1 show, confirmed that he would love to be offered a role in Albert Square. ITV police drama The Bill is to join forces with its German cop show counterpart Soko Leipzig to mark the show's 25th anniversary. The shows' production houses - talkbackTHAMES and Ufa Fernsehproduktion - will co-produce the venture, creating footage for their respective programmes, while at the same time utilising characters from both. The storyline begins when an 18-year-old German girl called Charlotte (Anna-Maria Mühe) is kidnapped on British soil. Dci Jack Meadows (Simon Rouse) heads up the manhunt with his German equivalent - and godfather of the kidnap victim - Detective Chief Superintendent Hajo Trautzschke (Andreas Schmidt-Schaller). Sun Hill detectives DC Terry Perkins (Bruce Byron), DC Mickey Webb (Chris Simmons) and DC Kezia Walker (Cat Simmons) will also feature in the cross-border filming. Some 7.7m people watched Andy Murray being knocked out of Wimbledon in another night of last-minute schedule changes at the BBC. Coverage of the Brit taking on Rafael Nadal began on BBC Two at 6.30pm on Wednesday, with an average of 4.3m (24.2%) watching until 7pm. BBC One was then cleared to take over the tennis until 8.30pm, drawing 6.8m (32.5%) over 90 minutes. The audience peaked at 7.7m in the quarter hour from 8pm as Murray was finally defeated. ITV1 managed to hold its own against the tennis with Coronation Street, which brought in 7m (33.6%) at 7.30pm, but ratings for The Bill dropped to 4.7m (21.4%) at 8pm. Martin Jarvis has been cast in an episode of The Bill. The veteran British actor will play Leslie Downey, a character who finds himself impaled on a scaffolding pole while driving his soft-top sports car, in an episode scheduled to air at the end of July. As an emergency crew fights to save him, Sergeant Nikki Wright (Gillian Taylforth) stays by his side. Jeff Stewart has been in talks to make a return to The Bill, according to a report today. George Galloway is taking legal action against The Bill, claiming that the show's producers based a corrupt Mp on him. Galloway, an Mp for the Bethnal Green and Bow constituency, is believed to be unhappy over the content of three-part special 'Moving Target', which aired in November last year. "He is in talks with his lawyers this week," a source close to Galloway told the Daily Record. "The legal action is based on an episode of The Bill where a politician with uncanny similarities to George turned out to be venal and corrupt - and that there was a clear inference." Former Coronation Street actor Rupert Hill is to guest star in The Bill.
The 29-year-old, who played Jamie Baldwin in the ITV1 soap, will appear in the upcoming four-part special 'Gun Runner'.
