If you were an obscure actor/actress in the late 1970's/early 1980's, the Love Boat was the place for you to be and set sail, while on a quest for love, or cheap sex...which was more likely. I must plead guilty in that I admit to enjoy watching these mostly over-the-hill entertainers ham it up, with the worst laugh track in the history of television. It was still fun to witness the shenanigans of Capt. Stubing's crew, mainly Dr. Bricker, who seemed more interested in examining female body parts(if you know what I mean) than anything else, and the daily exploits of Gopher's miscalculations and all around strange situations he seemed to get entangled in. Isaac was always entertaining as the token bartender, and Julie was a cokehead, and I don't mean the soft drink. The Love Boat was almost like Studio 54 on the water, and from what I can recall, both Andy Warhol and the designer Halston(both 54 stalwarts)made their guest appearances on the Pacific Princess, but Mick Jagger and Slyvester Stallone were no where to be found on board...go figure. One memorable guest appearance was from both Arnold Horshack and Marcia Brady, who were trying to get into each others pants; and Horshack says something to her along the lines of...let's go listen to The Led Zeppelin. That's right...THE. I miss the era of decadence that was basically the Love Boat and disco receptions, which was actually held on one memorable and cheesy episode.
