"The New Price Is Right" (1972)

The (New) Price Is Right - This is the longest running and most well known of all the versions of the show. It began airing in 1972 on CBS and still airs today.

The (New) Nighttime Price Is Right - This version of the show aired once a week in syndication. It premiered in 1972 and lasted until 1980.

The Nighttime Price Is Right - This syndicated version aired five nights a week. It ran for one season in 1985-1986.

The New Price Is Right - This syndicated version also aired five nights a week. It ran for one season in 1994-1995.

Bob Barker - He is the most well-known and longest-hosting of all The Price Is Right hosts. He hosted the CBS daytime version of the show from its premiere in 1972 until 2007 when he retired. He also hosted The Nighttime Price Is Right from 1977 to its end in 1980.

Dennis James - He hosted The Nighttime Price Is Right from it's premiere in 1972 until 1977, when Bob Barker took over the hosting duties.

Tom Kennedy - He hosted The Nighttime Price Is Right for it's entire single-season run.

Doug Davidson - He hosted the syndicated New Price Is Right for it's entire run.

Drew Carey - He took over the hosting duties on the CBS daytime version in 2007 after Bob Barker retired.

Johnny Olson - He was the announcer of The Price Is Right from its premiere until his death in October 1985. There were still several episodes not yet aired after his death, so his final first-run episode aired in November 1985. He also announced the entire run of The (New) Nighttime Price Is right and the beginning of the run of The Nighttime Price Is Right until his death.

Rod Roddy - He became the announcer of The Price Is Right after the death of Johnny Olson. His first official episode aired in February 1986 and he continued to be announcer of the show until his death in October 2003. He also announced The Nighttime Price Is Right from 1986 until the end of its run.

Rich Fields - He became the announcer of the show after the death of Rod Roddy. His first official show aired in April 2004, and he is the announcer at present.

Burton Richardson - He announced The New Price Is Right of 1994-1995.

Dennis James has been the only sub-host of any version. He sub-hosted for Bob Barker for three episodes in December of 1974 when Bob was out ill and unable to host.

There have been several sub-announcers. Gene Wood sub-announced on the daytime version and The Nighttime Price Is Right after the death of Johnny Olson. Rich Jeffries and Bob Hilton also sub-announced on the daytime version along with Rod Roddy before he was chosen as permanent announcer.

Burton Richardson sub-announced at varying times between 2001 and 2004 when Rod Roddy was unable to announce because of his health condition regarding surgery for cancer treatment. He also sub-announced for Rich Fields on a single episode in 2006 when he was out sick with laryngitis. Paul Boland sub-announced for a few episodes in 2002, and Randy West for some episodes in 2003. After the death of Rod Roddy, Daniel Rosen, Art Sanders, Roger Rose Don Bishop, and Jim Thornton all sub-announced in addition to Rich Fields before he was selected as permanent announcer.

Several names were considered. Dave Price, Todd Newton, John O'Hurley, Doug Davidson, Mike Richards, George Hamilton, Mario López, and Mark Steines all did audition tapings before audiences in episodes that were not broadcasted. Later, Ian Ziering and Drew Carey were among other names being considered.

On July 23, 2007, Drew Carey announced on an appearance of the Late Show with David Letterman that he had been chosen as the host of The Price Is Right.

In regards to a widespread rumour of Rosie O'Donnell being a contender, she was never actually one of the possible future hosts being considered.

June 15, 2007, airing in its usual daytime timeslot, and again that night at 8:00 P.M. Eastern/7:00 P.M. Central.

November 3, 1975, which made it the first (and only) game show in daytime television history at its time to become upgraded to a one hour format.

After the contract to air Price Is Right ended in April 2000, Leslie Moonves, the president of CBS, decided he did not want reruns to air on GSN. Mr. Moonves is afraid reruns would cause ratings to fall for the current version on CBS. As a result the contract has not been renewed and ALL versions of Price Is Right has not aired on GSN since then.
