Funeral Arrangements for Richard Harris

The family of Richard Harris will remember him at a small private funeral in London before scattering his ashes in the Bahamas, where he had a home. Harris, the hell-raising star of This Sporting Life, A Man Called Horse, and two Harry Potter films, died on Friday of Hodgkin's Disease. He was 72. Harris' London-based agent, Sharon Thomas, said no date had been set for the funeral. She added that public memorial services would be held for the Irish-born actor in London and Dublin on dates to be determined. Harris is survived by three sons - Jamie, Jared and Damian - from his first marriage to Elizabeth Rees-Williams. He is also survived by his second wife, Ann Turkel, whom he divorced in 1982.
Richard Harris Dies After Hodgkin's Disease Battle

Irish actor Richard Harris died in a London hospital on Friday after a battle with Hodgkin's disease. The 72-year-old screen star, shot to fame after appearing in films like Camelot and This Sporting Life. But Harris was not only known for his acting skills - he gained quite a reputation for his relentless drinking. But he endeared himself to a new generation of fans with his role as Professor Albus Dumbledore in the first Harry Potter movie released last year. A statement released by Harris's three children says, "With great sadness Damien, Jared and Jamie Harris announce the death of their beloved father Richard Harris. He died peacefully at University College Hospital." At a major international news conference earlier on Friday to launch the second Harry Potter film, producer David Heyman said he and director Chris Columbus had been to visit Harris in hospital and he had appeared to be fighting back. Heyman said, "Richard has been sick with Hodgkin's disease. Both Chris and I have been to visit him in hospital, and he seemed to be doing okay."
Richard Harris' Son Follows In His Footsteps

The son of British actor Richard Harris is following in his father's footsteps - on the verge of winning the PALME D'OR for his new movie. Jamie Harris is at the CANNES FILM FESTIVAL to promote his movie Fast Food, Fast Women (2000), for which he's been nominated for best actor - which Richard won for This Sporting Life (1963) in 1963. Jamie says, "This is unbelievable. Three days ago I was back in the East Village in New York on another low-budget film and now I'm here... The women look amazing and I'm thinking to myself, I'm in this weird beautiful town, I'm an actor who could even get a prize and if I don't get close to a woman before I leave it will be a tragedy."
