Trivia:
James Mangold, who directed the 2007 remake, was sufficiently influenced by the film to name the lead character Heflin in his 1997 film Cop Land (1997), after Van Heflin, the star of this film. moreGoofs:
Continuity: Inside the hotel room, when Wade fights with Dan trying to disarm him, Wade falls with his back on the bed and his hat rolls a little ways from him. When they take a close up shot of Wade, his hat is almost completely on his head. When Dan orders Wade to get up, they cut to a medium shot and once again, his hat is way over on bed again. moreQuotes:
[first lines]Mr. Butterfield, Stage Line Owner: Let me warn you - I am Mr. Butterfield; this is my line, these are my passengers. You bother any of them, I'll hound you from here to kingdom come.
Ben Wade: Mr. Butterfield, we don't mean to bother anybody - we just mean to get what's under that tarpaulin up there, that's all

I admire Glenn Ford for a long time. He has given so many great performances. But I never saw him better than in this remarkable Daves-Western. His portrait of the villain is perfect and looks like acting seems to be the easiest thing in the world. The other crew members are also likable especially the two ladies, Henry Jones, young Richard Jaeckel and Van Heflin of course.
