Fun Stuff

Trivia:
This film was shot in 3-D. However, director Raoul Walsh only had one eye, so he was never able to see the film in the process in which he shot it. The same situation occurred when director André De Toth, who also had only on eye, shot the 3-D film House of Wax (1953). more

Tough, solid, overlooked western drama, 11 April 2003
7/10
Author: NewEnglandPat from Virginia

A rancher and an outlaw with a conscience pursue a band of kidnappers through the Arizona desert in a good western that never received its just due. Most of Rock Hudson's early films were westerns and he shows that he's handy with a six-gun and at home in the saddle as he and reformed bad guy Leo Gordon look for the outlaws but for very different reasons. The color scenery nearly upstages the drama and the fine cast of old-school character actors make an ordinary plot outline work quite well. Phil Carey and Donna Reed are major players here. Carey is suitably oily as a southern gentleman and Reed is the damsel in distress who waits for her betrothed to rescue her. Neville Brand and Lee Marvin, in one of his first film roles, score as hard cases.
