Product Description

From Amazon.co.uk
There was a nice way of incorporating music into this film's humour. Composer Jonathan Richman kept appearing on-screen (first of all in a tree) to sing a ditty. It had the effect of making it seem like a tongue-in-cheek fairy tale. There are three of the songs here, with the last ("Let Her Go Into the Darkness") being an unexpected assassination attempt on him--his singing isn't that bad! The inclusion of "Mary's Prayer" by Danny Wilson shows a sense of humour in the Music Supervision department. It's used for a dreamy montage, and is enormously cheesy. A couple of classics suggest an ear for the peculiar, such as "Margo's Waltz" (Lloyd Cole) and "Build Me Up Buttercup" (The Foundations). Something like "Is She Really Going Out With Him" (Joe Jackson) is included to encapsulate half the plot for anyone not paying attention. Amongst the more recently penned songs is the best thing The Propellerheads ever wrote--"History Repeating". Many comedy albums think it's essential to do the jokes to death with dialogue tracks, but thankfully there are none here. --Paul Tonks

Entertainment Weekly
The Dandy Warhols are the only '90s guys here who manage half the energy of timeless classics by the Foundations....

4.0 out of 5 stars Looking for "The Way", Nov 14 2001
By A Customer
Awesome soundtrack. Looking for the song at the end as the credits roll. It's called "The Way", but not sure who performs it. Gotta get this song!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Pop CD ever!, Jun 3 2001
By "xander82" (Sheffield, England) - See all my reviews
This CD has the finest collection of pop tunes I've yet to find! It's got the classics: Build me Up Buttercup, Is She Really Going Out With Him and Mary's Prayer along with other greats like Everyday Should be A Holiday, Speed Queen etc. Every song is an instant classic and the 'intermission' tracks from Johnathan Richman 'True Love is not nice' etc are just amazing. Possibly the most fun and entertaining CD out there, it makes you glad to be alive! Buy it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars A soundtrack as sweet as Mary's personality!!
This soundtrack is a great companion to the movie. Just like the knock-your-socks-off first impression Mary gives everyone in the film, the music is no less appealing. Read more
