Media queen Oprah Winfrey held back tears in a televised emotional farewell on Friday - as she confirmed she's quitting her U.S. talk show.

Holding back tears, Winfrey told her studio audience she will end The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2011, when its 25th season draws to a close.

The talk show queen said "prayer and careful thought" led her to her decision.

She continued, explaining, "I love this show ... this show has been my life and i love it enough to know when it's time to say goodbye. Twenty five years feels right in my bones and my spirit. It's the perfect number, the exact right time."

New Jane Eyre Gets Hot-Right-Now Cast

12 hours ago | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Reader, she's in talks to marry him. Mia Wasikowska, about to hit our screens as Alice in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, is in talks to star with the ace Michael Fassbender in Jane Eyre, a new adaptation of the classic novel. For those of you who slept through your literature classes, the novel by Charlotte Bronte tells the story of a young governess called Jane who goes to work for the surly and frightening Mr Rochester. Strange noises in the house and odd events seem to point to some sort of haunting or sinister goings-on, but it's only gradually that the truth becomes clear. While we're going to have to wait for Alice to make any call on Wasikowska's suitability for Jane, we reckon that Fassbender's a good call for Rochester, with both the ability to be moody and terrifying that's called for and the charisma to make him nevertheless appealing. »

First Look: 'The Addams Family' on stage

27 minutes ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth star as Gomez and Morticia in The Addams Family, a new musical about the famously creepy family (now in Chicago until Jan. 10, then opening on Broadway April 8.) To develop his own take on the character of Gomez (famously played by Raul Julia in the 90s movies and John Astin in the 60s TV show), Lane dissected clues provided by the show's script, which is based on the original New Yorker cartoons penned by Charles Addams. " obviously has family money, and he doesn't have to work. So he has time for things like the tango and sword fighting. »

So much for that “extortion” plot that director James Toback said kept his film “Tyson” off the Oscar shortlist.

In Friday’s New York Times, the director charged that during the voting process for the documentary feature award, he encountered an incident “which I fully put in the category of extortion.” He stood behind his comments in a statement released this morning:

"I regret that I didn’t bring my concerns to the attention of the Academy sooner but I have now done so and I have been reassured that they are looking into ... »

Tim Russert Exhibit at the Newseum Just Plain Creepy (video)

1 hour ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

By Dylan Stableford

I’m going to reserve my final judgment until I see it in person. But, from afar, this new exhibit at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. – in which the late Tim Russert’s office at NBC is re-created exactly the way it was on June 14, 2008, the day he died from a massive heart attack – is unbelievably creepy.

Just how creepy?

It leads to awkward “Today” show segments on the exhibit where former colleagues like Al Roker point out Russert’s love of Jelly Bellys. Like this one:

The Newseum says the exhibit &... »

Review: Is Adam Lambert's 'For Your Entertainment' too over the top?

2 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

There may not be a more aptly named CD this year than Adam Lambert’s “For Your Entertainment.” Every note of the season eight “American Idol” runner-up’s major label debut, out Monday,  feels like it was handpicked for your listening pleasure.    Listen to the whole album here.   Seldom has a new artist arrived with such a sure vision of himself and the confidence and chops to deliver on that idea. Lambert does nothing by half measures here. Comparisons to Lady GaGa (who wrote the ’70-tinged glam rocker “Fever”) come to mind, but they aren’t totally fair because American didn’t spend... »

New Moon's "Absolutely Freakish" Debut

What else is there to say about New Moon that hasn't already been gushed? That the sequel to you-know-what starring you-know-who and -who and -who grossed a record-setting, undead-enlivening, "absolutely freakish" $26.3 million in Friday midnight screenings? Well, there's that. Yes, New Moon usurped the midnight crown from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince ($22.2 million), which ousted The Dark Knight ($18.5 million) this past July. Nudge the person in the theater next to you, and pass it on. How do we know you're reading this on a handheld at a multiplex? Because chances are you are. A Fandango poll of New Moon advance-ticket buyers showed 39 percent intended to play hooky... »

Snipes Appeals Overly Taxing Prison Sentence

2 hours ago | E! Online | See recent E! Online - Movies and Television news »

Not paying your taxes for five years? Understandable. Going to prison for three years as a result? Totally unreasonable. At least according to Wesley Snipes' crack (but not that crack) defense team. Attorneys for the Uncle Sam-dodging Blade star have filed an appeal against the actor's would-be imprisonment, calling the sentence "unreasonable" and claiming that his tax-evasion trial—which came to a close last February after Snipes was convicted on three misdemeanor counts of failing to file a return—should have taken place in New York and not Florida. Nevermind that the 47-year-old actor's housing records showed that he lived in both states or that his legal team had ample time prior... »
