Want to Have Your Name on the 'Paranormal Activity' DVD?
6 November 2009 5:35 PM, PST
You came. You saw. You kicked its ghostly ***. Well, sorta. At the very least, Paramount would like to thank you, all the Paranormal Activity fanatics out there, for helping the 'little fright movie that did' garner nearly almost practically $100 million at the box office (expect that notch to fall here quick). It is official, though, P.A. is the most profitable return on an investment ($15,000 to produce, a few million here and there to promote, and gazillions of dollars in return) in the history of cinema. So now that you've had the bejesus scared out of you over and over, the studio has offered to put your name (yes, you!) in the credits on the DVD, for helping to support the cause. All you have to do is register your name on their site before Monday, 11/9 at noon pacific, and bam...

You Pick the Hottest Story of the Week!
6 November 2009 3:58 PM, PST
Welcome back Fandango Fanatics to another installment of You Pick the Hottest Story of the Week – the game that pulls aside five scorching hot news stories and asks you to vote on which one you think deserves to be singled out and showered with hottest-story-of-the-week praise. Here are this week's contenders: Oscar Hosts Announced – After a lengthy search in which folks like Hugh Jackman, Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. turned down the gig, actors Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin accepted the role of Oscar co-hosts for Hollywood's biggest night, which airs on March 7, 2010. The duo, who combined hosted a total of 29 SNL episodes, should give us a fabulous (and hilarious) night full of singing, dancing and statues. [Read More] 'Prince of Persia' Trailer – The...

'Precious' Exclusives
6 November 2009 11:38 AM, PST
In case you're looking for something different than the average blockbuster at this weekend's box office, be sure to check out the just released Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire. It was the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award winner at this year's Sundance Film Festival, and has been greatly championed by media giants Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey. While its tale of an obese, illiterate, sexually abused 16-year-old may sound awfully grim, it's also a story about the hope Precious Jones (Gabourey Sidibe) discovers through her relationship with a teacher (Paula Patton) at an alternative school. For more info. and to see an exclusive spot for the film, click here. Plus, we've got a link to an exclusive from Giant Magazine. To celebrate actress Patton, who...

Poll: Would a '2012' TV Series Be Too Depressing?
5 November 2009 2:05 PM, PST
On November 13th, Roland Emmerich's latest end-of-the-world epic hits theaters, and it's called 2012. This time around Emmerich isn't using his big budget to fight aliens or global warming – instead, 2012 shows us what happens when the ancient Mayan prophecy springs to life and the world actually comes to an end in the year 2012. Yeah, in case you couldn't tell, this one's a bit of a downer. But that's not stopping Emmerich, writer Harold Kloser and producer Mark Gordon from wanting to extend 2012 to the small screen for a tie-in TV series about what happens after the world is destroyed. Entertainment Weekly reports that all those involved are strongly considering the television spin-off, and even ABC is looking into possibly using this show to replace Lost, which heads into...

The Five: Must-See Movies in November
5 November 2009 1:53 PM, PST
In these tough economic times it's hard to decide which movies to spend your hard-earned dollars on, which is why I've come along at the beginning of the month to save the day (kinda like Superman, only slightly overweight and balding) by giving you a list of five must-see movies hitting theaters at some point over the next 30 days. While I can't fully vouch for their awesomeness, advance buzz and my non-existent superhuman spidey sense should be enough to go by…I think…and hope. Check it: A Christmas Carol (November 6th) The month of November begins with a Christmas movie, yes, but it's one that's directed by the great Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forest Gump) and it stars the hilarious Jim Carrey as several different characters in this mo-capped version of the...

The 'Twilight' Film You Won't Want to Watch
5 November 2009 1:53 PM, PST
Okay, maybe I'm being a bit premature in my prediction that you won't want to watch this Twilight-related piece of "um, yeah, whatever" – but regardless I guarantee you'll be yawning roughly 30 seconds in. Bluewater Productions has decided to create a bio comic for Twilight's author called Twilight Unbound: The Stephenie Meyer Story. But not only will Meyer get her own comic, Bluewater has actually gone the extra step to turn this sucker into a motion comic! Yes, a motion comic – complete with weird Dracula-inspired opening and creepy voiceover, as if to make it sound like Stephenie Meyer rose from the dead before penning The Twilight Saga instead of, ya know, growing up like a normal person and enjoying some fairly typical (and somewhat boring) years at...

Both men have worked together a number of times due to their involvement with Saturday Night Live (Martin has hosted 15 times while Baldwin has hosted 14 times), and Martin is a veteran Oscar host having done it twice before in 2000 and 2002. Fun Finds: My Favorite Movie-Related Halloween Costume Goes To...
4 November 2009 2:47 PM, PST
Now that it's been a few days since Halloween, some fun movie-related costumes have popped up online. In my travels, I've come across a pretty cool Iron Man costume, as well as everything from Michael Jackson (who took first place in Fandango's Halloween costume poll) to Edward Scissorhands. The movie Where the Wild Things Are seemed to have inspired tons of parents to dress up their kids as Max or, in some cases, even a Wild Thing. My favorite movie-related Halloween costume so far, though, goes to an unknown dude who dressed up as a Na'vi from James Cameron's upcoming sci-fi flick Avatar. It's funny, too, because as big as Avatar is poised to become, I didn't see any homemade Halloween costumes related to that film at all this year, whereas there were tons of costumes...

Exclusive: New Kristen Stewart Movie 'The Yellow Handkerchief' Poster Premiere!
3 November 2009 4:34 PM, PST
Can't get enough of Kristen 'Bella' Stewart? Well, her new movie The Yellow Handkerchief comes out from Samuel Goldwyn on February 12, 2010 and we have the exclusive poster premiere right here! The PG-13 rated movie also stars William Hurt, Maria Bello and Eddie Redmayne and is "a love story at its core, about three strangers of two generations bound by loneliness who reach out to one another. After embarking on a road trip through post Katrina Louisiana, their relationships forge and change in a myriad of ways, leading to the possibility of second chances." Sounds interesting and emotional, but eventually, uplifting... What do you think? Will this satisfy your Bella cravings between New Moon and Eclipse? Will you go see it when it comes out on February 12th? Could...

Fanboy Fix: 'Transformers 3', 'New Moon' and 'Paranormal Activity 2'
3 November 2009 2:38 PM, PST
'Transformers 3' Apparently there's a secret video you can unlock on the new Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen DVD, and on that video is an interview with Michael Bay where he talks about Transformers 3. While he claims to be lying about everything he says, the director does admit that it will be hard to top the action in part two and that they may need to go sideways instead of bigger with the third installment. He also calls for less action and more emotion, especially when it comes to the robots as characters. Excuse me, but I don't think fans want to date these robots – they want to watch them fight each other to the death. I say lose the boring, emotional character study and amp up the action just one more notch. Eh, make it two more notches. Watch the video...

Marmaduke and The Berenstein Bears Getting Movies
3 November 2009 1:20 PM, PST
Get ready to let out a giant "Oh c'mon, really!?" sigh because the following news might be a touch hard to swallow. First off, whether we want one or not, Hollywood will be giving us a feature film based on the Marmaduke comic strip character (aka that big dog that gets into all sorts of trouble). Okay, fine, a movie about a dog that's up to no good – we get it, we've seen it, we can live with it. But what's bothersome for some about this particular movie is that Owen Wilson is going to provide the voice of Marmaduke. Yup, in this film Marmaduke can talk…and the movie will follow a family who move from Kansas to Orange County with their dog who, of course, causes mischief every step of the way. Would Marmaduke purists rather the dog not be able to...

First Trailer for 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time'
3 November 2009 1:12 PM, PST
A bronzed-up Jake Gyllenhaal? Check. A beautiful and alluring Gemma Arterton? Check. Tons of summery blockbuster action, suspense and intrigue? Check. Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer are back on the big screen this summer with what they hope will be their next big Pirates-esque franchise…and it's based on a video game. The first trailer for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has arrived online, and the good news is that, based on what we see here, this could very well turn out to be the best big-screen video game adaptation ever. It certainly looks to pack a whole lotta Bruckheimer fun into its Swords and Sandals vibe – and, heck, who doesn't want to watch Jake Gyllenhaal run up walls, slashing and dashing his way past a sea of spooky villains who are dead set...

First Look: New Book Art for Upcoming Movie 'The Road'
3 November 2009 10:36 AM, PST
Above is a first look at the re-release book art for The Road, which enters movie theaters (and the Oscar fray) in just a few short weeks on November 25, 2009. The 2006 book by Cormac McCarthy (No Country for Old Men) was a bestseller and Pulitzer Prize winner that followed the journey of a man and his son across the landscape of a postapocalyptic America. It's now been adapted to movie form by director John Hillcoat (The Proposition), and debuted to much acclaim at this year's Venice International Film Festival (it's currently rated 89% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes). Starring Viggo Mortensen and newcomer Kodi Smit-McPhee, the movie's been described as both "bleak" and "moving" and, per the cover art, was declared by Esquire magazine as "The Most Important...

DVD of the Week: 'North by Northwest' 50th Anniversary Ed.
3 November 2009 10:18 AM, PST
One of my absolute favorite Hitchcock movies finally comes to Blu-ray, and Warner Home Video has outdone itself with this release (also available in a 2-disc DVD set) starring Cary Grant (in his final collaboration with the director) as a victim of mistaken identity who lands in a whole mess of hot water that could wind up with him dead. His only ally seems to be the gorgeous Eve (Eva Marie Saint), but everything isn't what it seems--is it? The colors pop, the scenery (Mount Rushmore, Park Avenue, flat farmland) looks as Technicolor-crisp as if you were standing in it, and the Dolby 5.1 Surround sound treats the dialogue and Bernard Hermann's classic score sharply and effectively. Extras: All the bonus features from the film's 2000 DVD release are here (commentary, a Cary Grant...

'Roger Rabbit' Sequel Heading Our Way!
2 November 2009 5:35 PM, PST
Though he's been teasing it for months, Robert Zemeckis has finally admitted that writers are currently working on the script for a Roger Rabbit sequel. According to an interview over at MTV, Zemeckis said that the script is being written right now by the original Roger Rabbit writers, Peter S. Seaman and Jeffrey Price. Unfortunately that's all we've got right now, though it's probably enough to have fans of the 1988 movie (myself included) salivating at the mouth in anticipation of what could be the most buzzed-about animated sequel of all time. Who Framed Roger Rabbit? dazzled audiences when it first came out because it featured animated characters interacting with live-action characters in a way that had never really been done before on the big screen. Of course, since then, we've...

Move Over 'Paranormal Activity' - Here Comes 'Blair Witch 3'
2 November 2009 5:01 PM, PST
Looking to literally re-capitalize on a filmmaking style they re-invented back in 1999, The Blair Witch Project writer-directors, Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez, are this close to returning to the big screen with another Blair Witch installment – one that could potentially reunite the original film's stars, Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams. Speaking to the Toronto Star, Sanchez says that the new film would forget Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows ever happened (thank god), and it would pick up right where the original left off. He adds, "We're at the step where we're about to pitch to Lionsgate, which owns the movie rights now. It's pretty much up to them. They can completely squash it or greenlight it." Considering the smash success of Paranormal...

Who Wants to Own the Terminator Franchise?
2 November 2009 2:54 PM, PST
One of the biggest (and most successful) movie franchises is set to be auctioned off this month, and if you've got deep pockets (like millions of dollars deep) then you can own the Terminator and everything that goes along with him (batteries not included…we don't think). A rarity in Hollywood, Terminator is one of the only giant franchises left that isn't owned by a particular studio. Halcyon, the production company that currently owns the rights, is having major bankruptcy issues, which is what's causing the franchise to be auctioned off in the first place. Strangely enough, this is the second time in as many months that a massive franchise has been auctioned off. Last month the rights to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise were also auctioned off for about $60 million...
