First Pics From the Alien Invasion Movie Battle: Los Angeles
24 December 2009 11:14 AM, PST
Wow, how long have I been waiting for something — anything — from this movie? Well here it is, the first pics from the set, including our very first look at Aaron Eckhart as a battle-hardened trooper leading his squad against some nasty alien invaders on the streets of Los Angeles, which is currently shooting in, er, Louisiana. Hey, it’s Hollywood. Directed by Jonathan Liebesman, the film co-stars Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan, Lucas Till, Taylor Handley, and Michael Peña. The “Battle” rages February 2011. Via I09. »

Jude Law in a Bloody, Action-Packed Repo Men Trailer
24 December 2009 10:47 AM, PST
So there’s this sci-fi movie called “Repo Men”, starring Jude Law, Forest Whitaker, and Liev Schreiber. From what I can tell, it looks like a pretty expensive, slick, big-budget sci-fi action movie, too. And, um, I didn’t know it existed until now. Go figure. Check out a red band trailer for “Repo Men”, which looks a lot like “Logan’s Run” with human organs. The film has Jude Law playing, from what I can tell, his first ever leading man role in what is a full blown action movie. No real method acting here, just pure sci-fi action and spraying blood. Lots of that in the future when you’re dealing with guys who repossesses human organs — by literally cutting them out of their “wearers”. Set in the near future when artificial organs can be bought on credit, it revolves around a man who struggles to make the »

Doctor Who: The Waters of Mars Review
23 December 2009 6:47 PM, PST
The David Tennant Farewell Tour made a scheduled stop Saturday night on BBC America, with the third “Doctor Who” special of 2009. “The Waters of Mars” falls in between the previous two specials in terms of quality; it’s vastly better than “Planet of the Dead”, but falls short of the imaginative fun that was “The Next Doctor”. This effort is quite amazing, but it takes awhile for “The Waters of Mars” to realize it. The Doctor arrives at a human outpost on Mars, and to his horror realizes he hasn’t shown up at just any base on the Red Planet. He’s arrived at Bowie Base One, the first human outpost and one that will soon meet with a disaster that will claim the lives of everyone there. The crisis soon presents itself when an alien virus in the water supply begins to contaminate the crew, changing them into ghastly water spewing zombies. »

An International Trailer For Inception
23 December 2009 6:28 AM, PST
It’s in French but that’s ok, turn the sound down because it is really, really good. There’s so much stuff in there it’s hard to pick a highlight but I’d go with the city curling up like paper deal or maybe the freight train going down the middle of the city street. How does that grab you Joey? “Inception” is of course directed by Mr. Christopher Nolan, a director of singular talent. “Inception” stars Leo DiCaprio and Ellen Page and you’ll get to see it this summer. Thanks /Film for the heads up. »

Stargate Universe 1.0 DVD Artwork and Specs
22 December 2009 1:29 PM, PST
As they are wont to do, the SyFy Channel has released the first half of their original show “Stargate: Universe”, aka “Stargate: Universe 1.0″ on DVD. Check out the full specs and artwork for the standard DVD and Blu-ray versions below. The big draw? An extended version of the pilot episode, with never-before-seen footage. “Stargate: Universe 1.0″ arrives on store shelves February 9, 2010. And yes, I am extremely curious about that special feature called “[Lieutenant Vanessa] James in the Shower”, for purely, you know, journalistic reasons, of course. From the creators of television’s longest running Sci-Fi series, “Stargate Sg-1” comes a new story as “Sgu 1.0” lands on two-disc Blu-ray and three-disc DVD February 9 from MGM Home Entertainment. Featuring the first 10 episodes, fans will have the opportunity to relive their favorite moments before all-new episodes air in the spring. With a winning combination of Stargate’s pedigree, award-winning cult favorite stars and a bold new look, »

Has Peter Jackson Begun Work On Mortal Engines?
22 December 2009 5:13 AM, PST
Workaholic Peter Jackson is apparently ratcheting away on his latest project down there in New Zealand with Wingnut called “Mortal Engines”, a really cool post apocalyptic sci-fi fantasy about cities that roll around on giant treads and eat everything in their paths for fuel and resources. “Mortal Engines” is based on the works of author Phillip Reeve and his so far five books targeted towards a youth audience. But as we know, these books for tots can be even more adult than so called adult fiction. I think half the time these authors just write for no particular audience and the publisher decides for some reason or another to target the books this way. Neil Gaiman’s very adult and completely awesome novel “The Graveyard Book” immediately springs to mind. Books that are really easy to read and flow in your mind like they are coated in Teflon for some »

The Second Teaser Poster For Christopher Nolan’s Inception
22 December 2009 3:46 AM, PST
More teasing. As if grade school, junior high, high school, college and work weren’t enough, Christopher Nolan is now teasing me again with this new poster for his latest and let’s just posit, probably highly nifty summer Sci-Fi extravaganza “Inception”, starring Leo DiCaprio and homegirl Ellen Page. This poster is apparently the end run of the mazes found at YourMindistheSceneoftheCrime, the “Inception” site. Pretty clever. I’m going to check it out. “Inception” hits theatres July16th in normal theatres and the IMAX. Thanks Comingsoon. »

Mythbusters Investigates Captain Kirk’s Gorn Gun
21 December 2009 6:59 AM, PST
Normally I’d be reluctant to admit this, but I’ve spent a completely abnormal amount of time considering the probability that Captain Kirk’s desert made diamond cannon in the episode “Arena” would have been more likely to kill the good Captain or simply to have fizzled out. Shortly thereafter of course our scaly friend Mr. Gorn would have eaten Kirk’s face, either in the pieces that were left on the ground or, while still attached to James after the Gorn had finished hunting and skinning him. The intrepid Nerds at Mythbusters have also obviously been considering the possibility that the thing was never going to work or that perhaps diamonds aren’t scattered on the ground like acorns. Rocks would probably have done the job if you hit the Gorn straight in the beak. Thank Spock that in the end our trusting Gorn waddled straight into the »
