First Poster for The Wolfman
6 November 2009 3:22 PM, PST
After giving us two trailers for The Wolfman, Universal Pictures has finally gotten around to making a poster. There's only one catch, as the poster is lacking a Wolfman.
The Wolfman Poster
Inspired by the classic Universal film that launched a legacy of horror, The Wolfman brings the myth of a cursed man back to its iconic origins. Oscar® winner Benicio Del Toro stars as Lawrence Talbot, a haunted nobleman lured back to his family estate after his brother vanishes. Reunited with his estranged father (Oscar® winner Anthony Hopkins), Talbot sets out to find his brother... and discovers a horrifying destiny for himself. »
Extended Promo Trailer for The Killer Inside Me
5 November 2009 3:54 PM, PST
Got to hand it to Casey Affleck. The guy is one of those true actors that can tackle just about everything. After disturbing us in The Assassination of Jesse James, he is back again with another dark drama, The Killer Inside Me. But this time he gets to bang Jessica Alba and Kate Hudson. Lucky guy!
Wait, wait, he kills one of them? Er, not so lucky.
The Killer Inside Me Promo Trailer
The Killer Inside Me. The film has Affleck playing (if you can believe it) Lou Ford -- a relative of Robert Ford? -- a West Texas deputy who's not only a sexual beast, but a psychotic killer. Yikes! »
New Sherlock Holmes Trailer!
5 November 2009 10:24 AM, PST
I sort of called it! Okay, maybe not exactly, but I did point out that Warner Bros. owed us at least a new trailer for Sherlock Holmes, considering that the two before it were damn near identical. As if listening to my request, a new trailer arrived within 24 hours.
Trailer: Sherlock Holmes
And I do love the new trailer for Sherlock Holmes. More action. More shenanigans. More laughs. Everything looks terrifically fun, and Jude Law looks to steal a multitude of scenes. The preview also gives a lot more attention to the film's villain played by Mark Strong. All in all, very nice. »
New Despicable Me Trailer
5 November 2009 1:38 AM, PST
Either it's still too early or Universal Pictures is afraid to show us any real footage from Despicable Me. Releasing the film's second trailer, we aren't given that much indication of a plot, and only hear about one line of dialogue. The film isn't out until next summer, so I guess we can assume that Universal is seeing this preview as a second teaser trailer; which it most definitely feels like.
Despicable Me Trailer
In a happy suburban neighborhood surrounded by white picket fences with flowering rose bushes, sits a black house with a dead lawn. Unbeknownst to the neighbors, hidden beneath this home is a vast secret hideout. Surrounded by a small army of minions, we discover Gru (voiced by Steve Carell), planning the biggest heist in the history of the world. He is going to steal the moon (Yes, the moon!) in Universal's new 3-D CGI feature, Despicable Me. »
Hopkins and Bening Join Hemingway & Fuentes
5 November 2009 1:27 AM, PST
Andy Garcia is off to a good start for his period drama, Hemingway & Fuentes. Both Anthony Hopkins and Annette Bening have agreed to play the title roles.
Anthony Hopkins, Annette Bening for Hemingway & Fuentes
Andy Garcia wrote the script for Hemingway & Fuentes with Hilary Hemingway, the granddaughter of author Ernest Hemingway. The drama chronicles the two decades that Hemingway spent in Cuba fishing with his best friend Gregorio Fuentes, where he fell in love with the beautiful Italian girl who inspired him to write .The Old Man and the Sea.. Garcia will play Fuentes, and Bening will play the author's third wife, Mary Welsh Hemingway.
Garcia, who has been interested in a project like this since the 70s, will also direct and produce. »
Depp Might Become The Tourist
5 November 2009 1:20 AM, PST
With The Tourist getting tinkered with before its production start this February, the project has found room to include Johnny Depp. That is, if he agrees to star opposite Angelina Jolie.
Sony Pictures is hoping that Depp will agree to play an American tourist drawn into a web of intrigue by a female Interpol agent (Jolie) who is attempting to locate a criminal who was once her lover.
The move comes after Avatar star Sam Worthington exited along with director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, both over creative differences. »
Japanese Trailer for Avatar Shows New Footage
4 November 2009 6:12 PM, PST
Got another quick Avatar update coming your way. Though Fox acted like they were unwilling to show anything from the film in the first half of 2009, the studio now can't stop releasing new videos for the film. First we had the teaser this summer, and that was nothing in comparison to the recent week we've had. A feature trailer, an extended featurette, an international trailer, two TV spots and now a Japanese trailer for the film. All in the past seven days!
New Avatar Footage Seen in Japanese Trailer
Yes, the Japanese trailer is a lot like the domestic version, though it does run for about a minute less. Even without the extra sixty seconds plus, the preview does manage to show small glimpses of never before seen footage, including scenes showing Neytiri and Jake becoming er, intimate. »
Official Salt Trailer Arrives
4 November 2009 11:46 AM, PST
After spending a day trying to learn Russian, we have now been given the first official (and very English) trailer for Salt.
Salt Trailer
In Columbia Pictures' Salt, Angelina Jolie stars as Evelyn Salt, a CIA officer who swore an oath to duty, honor, and country. When she is accused by a defector of being a Russian sleeper spy, Salt goes on the run to clear her name and ultimately prove she is a patriot. Using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative, she must elude capture and protect her husband or the world's most powerful forces will erase any trace of her existence. »
Helen Mirren Seeing Red
4 November 2009 12:01 AM, PST
Helen Mirren is getting into comics! While I can't confirm that she is actually reading any, she has agreed to join Summit Entertainment's espionage thriller Red, where she will star alongside Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman.
Helen Mirren for Red
If I could make a quick little note, I would say that it is good to see Summit Entertainment continuing to branch out into genres. They seem to be trying everything and, if they can learn a bit of patience, we should start seeing a nice collection of films from the studio. But I digress...
Directed by Robert Schwentke off a script by brothers Erich and Jon Hoeber, Red is a three-book series that follows a former black-ops CIA agent who lives a quiet life in retirement until the day a high-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him. »
Cedar Rapids Cast Grows
3 November 2009 11:46 PM, PST
Though Cedar Rapids has already begun filming, the production has only recently picked up a significant chunk of its cast. Fox Searchlight has only today cast Sigourney Weaver, John C. Reilly and Alia Shawkat to join Ed Helms and Anne Heche, who are already on set.
Sigourney Weaver, John C. Reilly and Alia Shawkat for Cedar Rapids
Directed by Miguel Arteta off a script by Phil Johnston, Cedar Rapids follows Helms, who plays a sad-sack insurance agent who goes to an industry convention to try and save the jobs of his colleagues. Weaver plays Helms' former seventh-grade teacher. And, speaking of Weaver, you can next see her in James Cameron's highly-anticipated movie, Avatar. »
The Oscar Hosts Are... Martin and Baldwin
3 November 2009 10:53 PM, PST
After receiving a couple "no" responses at the request of hosting the 82 Academy Awards -- no, Jackman is not coming back -- the show has finally found its hosts.
Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin Are Oscar Hosts
While I continue to wait for another appearance by Billy Crystal at the Academy Awards, as I've always considered him to be one of the best hosts there is, it looks like this one is going to Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin, who have agreed to co-host the awards show. I'm liking the mix. We have Steve Martin, who will bring the experience having hosted the Oscars twice before, and Alec Baldwin, who has a great wit to him. »
Couple Sherlock Holmes TV Spots
3 November 2009 9:34 PM, PST
I'm assuming that Warner Bros. has one more feature trailer in store for us for Sherlock Holmes before the film hits theaters. Time is running short, though, so I guess these two TV spots for the film are either a warmup of some other preview to come, or the cheaper reminder to audiences that the film is hitting in theaters in less than a couple months.
TV Spots: Sherlock Holmes
I'd still like to think that there is another trailer for Sherlock Holmes coming, as it would mean Warner Bros. has no reservations about showing the film off. If they don't give us another preview, or a shitload of TV spots and featurettes, one might assume that the studio has something to hide. All early theories of course, so just check out the two new TV spots for Holmes below. »
Up on Blu-Ray
3 November 2009 8:42 PM, PST
So when will films start being released in 3D, as promised by all the TV retailers. My TV is 3D-ready -- whatever that means -- and I'm ready to do 3D in the comfort of my own home. Not that not having 3D hurts Up, but this film looked absolutely Incredible in 3D. Straight wowed me in theaters. But I digress...
Though Up does not arrive home in the third dimension, it still looks incredible on Blu-ray.
Blu-Ray Review: Up
The colors, contrast and shading is done so well in Up that viewers can at least get an idea of the film's understanding of depth and dimension. Some backgrounds purposely stretch forever and, at times, there is enough contract to pull the characters and other close objects off the screen. In short, visuals galore, but there's also plenty of story and some nice extras. »
Monsters, Inc. on Blu-Ray
3 November 2009 8:20 PM, PST
Halfway through Monsters, Inc. on Blu-ray I had an epiphany . I absolutely love this movie. Coming in as one of Pixar.s best in terms of characters and charm, the film had me laughing harder than I ever expected. The fainting scene? Hilarious. My only regret is that I wasn.t able to watch it on my new 50. Panasonic Plasma like I did the Up Blu-ray; review coming soon. No matter, as it still looked plenty stunning on my 32. Sharp Aquos.
Monsters, Inc. on Blu-Ray
The problem with Blu-ray, at least from the animation studio.s perspective, is that it allows the casual viewer to easily spot advancements in CG-animation. Monsters, Inc. looks amazing, no doubt, but you.ll notice that the characters aren.t as detailed as those featured in Pixar.s later films. They do excel at one thing, however, and that is hair. I don.t know »
Get an Early Look at the Salt Trailer!
3 November 2009 11:35 AM, PST
Here's the quickest of quick updates coming your way for the upcoming action-spy-thriller, Salt, starring Angelina Jolie. Though we hadn't expected a trailer so soon, we've been given an early peak thanks to a Russian version.
Salt (Russian) Trailer
What the Russian Salt trailer has taught me is that, one, I don't know Russian and , two, Anglina Jolie looks so much better with dark hair. What about the film itself? Well, I'm sort of on the fence on that one. The stunts look great, all the running around is typical, but there seems to be something missing. Well, I guess I can't be too critical, considering I don't understand what the heck is going on. »
Badass Featurette and TV Spot for Avatar
3 November 2009 10:52 AM, PST
Just when I was coming down from the Avatar trailer, 20th Century Fox had to go and release a new TV spot and, even better, a great featurette on the film.
Avatar TV Spot and Featurette
Avatar continues to polarize (online) moviegoers, who either think the film looks cheesy or amazing. I'm part of the latter and can't wait to see this movie on IMAX 3D come December. For the rest of you doubters, you may want to check out a new featurette for Avatar at TrailerAddict, which shows a ton of new footage and gives a better idea of the film's story, characters and outlook. Looks amazing, and you can watch it here. »
Disney's A Christmas Carol Any Good?
3 November 2009 12:26 AM, PST
I am making it a point to see Disney's A Christmas Carol in IMAX 3D this upcoming weekend and am somewhat bummed to hear that the film isn't all that. Sure, I'll be enjoying the crap out the visuals -- yes, another "visual feast" -- but the film supposedly has the character of a rake.
Early Reviews: Disney's A Christmas Carol
We've been alerted to two of the first official reviews for Disney's A Christmas Carol and, though both like what they see, they don't like the actual plot elements or the cookie-cutter characters. Ouch. Take a gander on what they had to say below. »
Sony Pictures Family Gets Mother and Child
3 November 2009 12:12 AM, PST
Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the domestic distribution rights to Rodrigo Garcia's drama, Mother and Child. With the film comes an ensemble cast that includes Annette Bening, Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington and Samuel L. Jackson.
Mother and Child Acquired
Written and directed by Garcia, Mother and Child centers around three women and the choices they've made concerning children. Though some of you might have already caught the film at the Toronto International Film Festival this September, the wide theatrical release will take place some time in 2010. »
Get a Terminator, On Sale
2 November 2009 11:58 PM, PST
Terminator Salvation was not nearly as good as I wanted it to be, and it didn't do nearly as well as Halcyon hoped. Coincidence? I think so!
Since the fruits of their labor fell short on costs, an auction is now set for January for Halcyon Co. to sell the rights to future Terminator pics, TV series, DVDs and merchandise as part of its bankruptcy process.
Terminator Up for Auction
The franchise should most definitely sell, and an exec from Fti Capital Advisers, who are working with Halcyon, has already admitted that strong interest has been building since paperwork for the sale has gone out. Whether this is true or just a play by the company, one can only guess. But there is a perk we're told. »
Clooney Could Be One of The Descendants
2 November 2009 11:48 PM, PST
It was only a couple months back when George Clooney was picking up projects two at a time. After a brief break from casting, he's back in the news again, but this time for a single role. Sticking to dramedy, Clooney is in talks to play the lead role in The Descendants for Fox Searchlight.
George Clooney in Talks for The Descendants
To be directed by Alexander Payne off a an adapted script by scribes Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, The Descendants centers on a wealthy landowner who takes his two daughters on a search for his wife's lover in the hopes of keeping his family together.
The project not only marks the first feature for Payne in five years, but it will also be his first collaboration with Clooney; if the actor decides to join. »
